Night School (Glasgow, Scotland) is reissuing (again) "Cut With the Cake Knife", hot on the heels of Sacred Bones 2025 reissue of the 1989 pop masterpiece. I don't really throw that word around all that often. I checked the search engine - I've used the word "masterpiece" less than 20 times and most of those were not in describing the actual album I was posting about as a masterpiece.

For indie pop, "Cut With the Cake Knife" is a masterpiece crafted by indie pop royalty. McDowall's previous band, Strawberry Switchblade had just broken up, and these songs were intended for that band. According to the Sacred Bones notes, Rose had been hanging out with the likes of Lawrence from Felt, and Primal Scream. She thanks fellow Glaswegian Stephen Pastel in the album notes.

The Sacred Bones and Night School reissues contain her amazing rendition of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" (sorry, no cowbell).
