i don’t think (as of ch 347) that he knows ging super well. obviously there’s the piqued interest and unexplained faith, but “wow we do think alike” is not an epiphany he would have if they were well into an established relationship. ging presumes a lot more about pariston than pariston does about him, which throws people off.

i have like ten billion unpopular opinions on hxh here’s a few feel free to ask for more bc i swear ten minutes after posting this i WILL find more

the 2011 anime is a bad adaptation. it nails neither the art style and feeling of most of the series and while minor at first glance the changes it makes to the story affect strongly the meaning it has. it also suffers from HUGE pacing issues - most anime adaptations do but due to how text heavy some parts of hxh are it really does not make for a good fun moment to watch. palace invasion was awesome in the manga just saying

about the hiatus i’m offended by how horrible people act about it online. even if the author is indeed being lazy thats his buisiness lol he doesn’t owe you shit. let the guy rest for fucks sake he’s been drawing this for decades and isn’t exactly young either

the succession war is one of the best arcs, imho the best of the series

a lot of the character designs are bad and the worldbuilding is one of the lowest points of the entire series it’s barely there at all. i did not forget octopus with a gun. i will not forget octopus with a gun

a huge bulk of the fan content i see for the series online manages to misinterpret all four of the main characters so congratulations on the fandom for their insanely impressive combo of Missing The Points! A few highlights :

gon does not have “a twisted sense of morality” he is 12

killua isn’t “badass and mature” hes a badly abused kid and also he is 12

leorio isnt useless he is just a normal guy. i said guy not man he is 18

kurapika isnt violent he explicitly states he hates fighting

☕ cinema... vague topic i know

no its perfect! I will answer in all three ways I experience film

movie theaters are GREAT I have such wonderful childhood memories of showing up with my little group and getting special treats I’m not allowed to have at home and walking down the little aisle and finding enough seats for everyone and hearing the murmurs and playing the alphabet game with the ads and always using the same business for “J” and for “Q” and knowing “Z” will be easy because there’s a Z in the name of my hometown (which is pretty small) and experiencing loud noises and bright colors and whispering to my siblings about what someone just said and then it’s dark when we leave and on the way home we all say what our favorite part of the movie was and it’s just a whole experience it’s very special. I haven’t been to a movie theater in over a year and I miss it

my dad watches old black and white movies as a hobby and he always tries to get me to watch them like “oh hey come here this part is really good!” it’s never good I hate old movies and how every single man from the 1950s apparently sounds exactly the same

I sometimes make the effort to track down a movie on a streaming site if everyone is raving about it but I’m super picky about the movies I watch in my free time because I don’t actually like movies very much. they’re both too long to hold my attention and too short to establish characters or plots that I care about. long-running series with like, 50 or so hours of runtime (this is hxh, cql, iasip) tend to be the most rewarding for me. also I’ve gone through the effort of watching a movie I saw a gifset of and I just thought it was really bad so I only watch stuff I KNOW I’ll like. this is how I found the handmaiden and pan’s labyrinth, two of my favorite movies

I don’t enjoy watching most movies but i love watching critical analysis of their themes, plots, or cinematography (I mean, I have a whole film theory tag) so time spent on youtube watching video essays on movies I haven’t seen, is probably higher than the time I have spent actually watching any movies. and i have no desire to watch memento or the cabinet of dr. caligahri or vertigo if I can just extract everything about it that appeals to be from a 10 minute long video. but I do watch movies I find here if they look really good, this is how I came to watch Hero and Shadow (a few more favorites)

finally, movies I like not yet mentioned: Tintin, Fantasia 2000, Into the Spider-verse, Black Panther, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Mad Mad: Fury Road, Anastasia, Megamind, Thor: Ragnarok, Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke :)

unpopular opinion about the manga/show?

good taste gang was a joke not only for the unfounded moral superiority but for implying that fma and mp100 were on par with hxh in terms of storytelling. don’t compare hxh to good taste tang

if you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

all the casual bigotry and unexamined harmful tropes, so much of this shit could easily be cut out

instead of XYZ happening, i would have made ABC happen…

i p much enjoy the story direction and it’s hard to know what didn’t work until it all plays out. that being said the spiders are boring as shit and i would gladly replace their screentime with seeing most anyone else

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

well i know plenty of POPULAR characters that i DON’T like. unpopular ones hmm hmmmm hmmmmmm is ron delite unpopular because i love him. funny little straight man. he can have all the rights in the world. i guess by virtue of not having an official translation all the prosecutor’s path characters are a little unpopular? katherine hall and justine courtney have my whole heart and i will adopt sebastian immediately

GREGORY EDGEWORTH ISNT FUCKING DEAD MVK IS DEAD. dont ask me how i dont know or care. franziska gets adopted into the edgeworth family. everyone is HAPPY and OKAY and well if im honest the edgeworth plotline is a really good one so i probably wouldnt actually change it but like what if gregory was just in a coma or something and he came out of it later? could we have that?

also i would have made franziska whip the hell out of godot after he made that stupid comment. she should’ve done it. it would’ve been so good.

21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?

i mean if theyre just silly ones then theyre fine? like ive seen larry and lotta put forth as a crack ship. i dont really get into that sort of stuff but i can see why other people occasionally have fun with them. i do have my regular objections against certain types of ships though. also, crack ship or not, the people behind kr*st*hl** week are my enemies. sibling abuse isnt funny and i shouldnt have to keep telling people that <3
