(unfortunately i will not be finishing this fic tonight :( but have a lil sneak peak)
“Would you like any dessert tonight?” Their waiter interrupts gently. From the corner of his eyes, Leon sees Claire give him a megawatt smile, her foot stilling against him.Â
“Just the check, please. Thank you.”Â
The waiter offers a small grin and turns on his heel, and Claire wastes no time reaching around the front of Leon and slipping her hand into his jacket pocket. Her breath brushes his neck as she pulls out his wallet and sits back in her chair, and hands it over to him. Downing the rest of her drink, she sets down the glass with a sigh, and sucks the drop from the corner of her mouth off her thumb.Â
Huffing, Leon cuts his eyes to the chatter at the bar and shifts in his chair.Â
“Thank you, Baby,” Claire says, voice light against the candlelight flickering on the table. She reaches for her clutch. “I’m going to freshen up. I think we should take the long way home.”Â
She doesn’t give him any time to process. Her chair glides against the mahogany and she tosses her hair over her shoulder as she stands.Â
The words land. He catches her hand in his before she can go a step too far, and he hears her champagne-giggle before she turns to look at him.Â
“Yes?” She asks with a smirk, eyebrow raised.Â
Clearing his throat, he runs his eyes up and down her body again. The world around them blurs as he stops at every point he knows like the back of his hand. Every scar. Every freckle. Every curve. Long enough that he can feel the heat starting to crawl up Claire’s neck, but he knows she won’t pull away first.Â
He’s got cards in this little game of theirs, too.Â
Her fingers twitch in his as they stare at one another, their own heartbeats drowning out the busy shuffling of the rest of the restaurant. He waits until she relaxes again, eyes softening, eyebrows lowering, and then another moment longer just because he can.Â
Satisfied, he lets go of her hand and leans back in his chair.Â
“You’re welcome.”Â
