It was one thing for Kate Bishop to be using the Hawkeye name because she would keep it honorable. She wasn’t using it to gain anything --- it was a symbol. One that had given her hope and inspired her to be who she was now. A man she had never met but gave her the fire to be the hero she needed. She had been Hawkeye for nearly two years, and there were always guys like this. Thugs with bandages on their noses and sloppy postures because they thought it made them look tough, looking for Hawkeye. And each and every time, she got the same response: Not you! The real one!
And this time, it was just like that. Except this time the tracksuits looked at her like she had two heads. “Bro. We ain’t talking to you! Bro is in there.” And with that, Kate turned on her heel and looked at the building that had been to her back. This was the first time that anyone ‘knew’ where Hawkeye was. The first time that they weren’t wandering around his old haunts. But this place... he was here? At a homely looking apartment complex? There was no way.
“Really? There?” They were trying to tell her an Avenger was living there? There was no way. But a fire crawled up Kate’s spine as she stalked towards the building. The tracksuits might be staying outside, but Kate Bishop? She was going in. She found the name CLINT BARTON printed next to one of the apartment numbers --- the one that would have been reserved for the landlord. (Great, she thought. Fake Hawkeye --- Fakeye? --- owns the building which means don’t bother at looking at the rent price! Kate needed a place to stay now that she was back in the city and based on the outside appearance and the thugs outside --- she was hoping for cheap rent.)
She shook it off and stormed up to the door before pounding on it. “Hey, jerkface!” She yelled through the door. “We need to talk about identity theft!”
