Jo: Jess, you’re back!!! How was he? Did he get my letters?? Jessica weakly: No I don't think so... Jo: That's okay, I could just write another one! This time I'll use a pink envelope so the mailman can't miss it!! Waiting until Jo’s up the stairs Clint asks, 

Clint: That bad huh? Nodding she slumps back against the door.  Jessica: And the baby? Clint: In her crib sound asleep, come on sit right her' n tell me all about it.

Jessica: He looks so bad Clint, and he's so angry. I didn't think he could get any angrier- and after seeing him? I don’t blame Maddie for not telling him. Clint: Now hold on a sec, he didn't know either? She shakes her head. Jessica: Oh, you should've seen his face Clint, he was so...hurt. Clint: Did you tell him she's getting married?? Jessica: No, and if he knew...with all those drugs scattered around? I can't even imagine.

Josie had come out of her room just in time to catch more than she was meant to.

Jo whispering: Drugs? Sneaking quietly back into her room, she dives into her backpack in search of a crumpled booklet. Grabbing a sharpened pencil she begins,  Dear Drew, I tried WriTing you a letter but i guess it got lost. So I'm trying again. I miss you So so so so so so so much! ♡ Also I took your room. Sorry. Hope you are not mad. Pa's going to clean the basement. So you can have it. Warning. it stinks. He told your mom he was going to clean it before she came back but I guess he forgot. We saw Maddie at the funerral. She has a baby now. He's cute and talks using sign langwej. I know because we learnt the alfabet in school last week. I wish you would come home. I have so much to say but I'm almost out of room and I need to fit something else in the envalope. Suprise! Its a booklit I made for red ribbin week. Just in case you have a hard time remimberizing to just say NO.

After helping Drew pack she decided to call Clint. She needed to say her goodbyes, to leave with a clean conscience.

Walking up to the bench the man looked well put together. Hair combed, creased jeans, clean boots, he figured she'd be frazzled by the town's gossip of the previous night. He wanted more than anything to make this work. To get her the help she needed to save her from this addiction. To be her anchor. Listening to her talk he fumbled with the little velvet box he had stuffed in his pocket. His mother's ring. He was ready to reassure her that whatever she had to say, he could handle because he wanted her for now, and for always. Jessica: So that's everything but it's all fine now because we don't have to run anymore. We can go back to San Ko, home. Reaching into his pocket he starts. 

Clint: You don’t have to leave, I love you and - Jessica: Love me?? Clint confused: Well yes... Jessica: Clint, I mean it's one thing to say it in bed but... We- we were just two lonely..people. I- I mean It was nice but- but we both know it wasn't love. *silence*

Clint:  I-I can't believe I was foolish 'nuff to think... He takes one last look at her before turning and walking away.

They’d thought they were hearing things but now it was certain someone was banging on the door.

Clint: Yuh want me ta-

Marie: No! Don’t you move I’ll be right back.

Slipping on her robe she runs downstairs to check the front door. Miss Kat stood shivering in her rain gear, lightning illuminating the fearful look in her eyes. She does a once over at Marie’s “sleepwear” before clearing her throat. 

Kat: Madelyn didn’t come home today after school.

Marie’s mouth dropped a little, her own son hadn’t come home either, but that was so normal she didn’t think twice.

He wouldn’t… he would.

Kat steps impatiently closer to the cracked door.

Kat: You haven’t seen her have yuh? Is Aaron home?  

Marie hesitant: Umm no, he...he didn’t come home either.

Marie suddenly was unable to make eye contact with her. 

Clint:  What was- Oh God- I mean gosh- shit- I mean shoot- Mrs. McGowan. 

He turns around covering his junk with his hands only to reveal his bare ass.

Marie: Again, we’re really sorry you had to see that. 

Ms. Kat takes the mug from her, hands quivering. 

Kat: And you said Aaron’s not home?

Marie hesitant: Yes.. he-he didn’t come home either. 

Kat: And you- you aren’t worried??

Marie: Well you know to be completely honest, Aaron often doesn’t come home, you know how tee-

Kat stands up placing the untouched mug on the table. 

As she walks towards the door Clint turns towards her for the first time since.. the incident. 

Clint: Maddie’s a smart girl Mrs. McGowan, I’m sure she’s somewhere safe staying dry. 

Kat: Yes... I’m sure. 

She looks back towards Marie, her hand on the doorknob. 

Kat: Can we expect to see you at church on Sunday Clinton?

Clint coughing: Uhhh yes ma’am.

Marie: Oh god! Clint: Jo! Jo! Look at papa did you eat these? Clint cont.: Why do- what are all these?? *picking up bottles, tossing them frantically* Jo take your fingers out of your mouth, listen to papa did you eat this?? Jo nods slowly Clint: How many, how many did you eat??? She shakes her head, then nods again. Marie hysterical: oh no oh no oh no oh no Clint: We gotta get you to a hospital. Marie stops pacing and running her fingers through her hair. Marie: Clint you can't do that! It’s just that.. umm..those, those kinds of pills...They're not- some- some are- You're going to have child services- Clint: WELL WHAT THE HELL DO I DO?! Jo starts to whine. Marie rocking: I don't know I don't know I don't know, you you gotta get her to throw em up just get her to throw em up!! Clint stares at her, her frail bony figure, wide wild eyes, thin brittle hair. He’d come by to ask her if she could watch Jo for a few hours. She’d been sitting on the floor listening to the tablets shake again, wanting so badly to feel their shiny film coating glide across her tongue. When Clint came in she was so relieved she’d forgot she left the bottles out.  Clint: Are you? Are you taking all of these?! She runs up to him pleading at his arm, he snatches it away. Marie: No no no no no no no no no no I'm clean I-I'm clean Clint: I can't believe this. I'm taking Jo to the hospital- Marie: I'll go with you-

Please don’t leave me alone... Clint slams the door so furiously that the walls, shake and wisps from the ceiling flutter down against her skin.  Twisting off a cap a few pills sputtered across the floor, grabbing a handful she threw her head back and dropped them into her mouth. Chewing and crying, chewing and crying.

 After the doctors informed Clint that it was indeed a false alarm and Josie hadn't actually ingested any pills at all, he couldn't shake his need for some sort of explanation. Going back to Marie's place he finds her, body purple, pupils tiny, breathing so shallow he could hear her rattling. He lay over her frantically checking for a pulse when Aaron came in. Looking up into his face Clint found nothing but stoicism. His eyes held not the slightest bit of bewilderment, his muscles weren't at all tense, and above all he seemed at ease with the entirety of the situation. It stunned Clint speechless. He throws his book sack on the couch, kicking off his shoes. Aaron: Gonna call an ambulance? Clint: That's what I should do?? Aaron peered down at her pinpoint pupils, reaching down he poked her carotid artery. Aaron: I mean she's alive so... Clint: So what’s that mean?! That's when emotion washed over Aaron's face, but it wasn't concern, and it wasn't worry, it was exhaustion. As if this was the most trivial and repetitive situation he'd ever experienced. Aaron walks up the stairs. Clint: Aaron!! Wiggling out his mother's underwear drawer he reaches in and grabs the auto-injector she hid for not if but when. Aaron: Chill, was just grabbing this. Clint: You know what you're doing? He injects the Nalo, used to immediately block the opioid receptors. Aaron: If it doesn't work in three minutes, take her. Clint sits back, Clint: She's your mother- Aaron chuckles coldly his eyes narrowing as venomous words formed in his mind.

Aaron: She's not gonna eat you know. He looks torn, but after last night's events, he figures he's probably right. Clint: How 'bout you then, hungry? Aaron smiles: I'm always hungry. Clint: Good, good sit. Aaron: So where's Jo? Clint: Dropped her off at daycare this morning. ... Clint hesitant: Can I ask you somethin’? How? How long... Aaron: How long has she been like that? [He nodds] Aaron: My entire life. [He laughs] kinda had me fooled this time around. Then just before I got out of the hospital- Clint sighs visibly distressed. He had hoped she truly was sober before this but now he couldn't help but think, all that time in Sulani, the talks of the future, the passion? But there had been another side to that too. Disconnect and paranoia. Warning after warning about her past and him not knowing the real her. Aaron: I was wrong about you. Clint looks up. Aaron: You care I see that now. I just- I feel bad for Jo. She's a sweet kid you- you can't really be a kid with all this. You think you can handle it, I see it in your eyes that you'll still try. [he shakes his head] Well I wish you'd run.

Jo: Hiii

Aaron distant: Hey kid.

Jo starts dancing and making weird noises to try to cheer him up.

Jo: Say cheese Aan!

Aaron: Cheeese?

Jo excited: Good job, now you play wiff me okay!

She grabbed his hand attempting to pull him up.

Aaron chuckled: I guess if it gets you to stop dancing.

She takes off squealing as if he was chasing her. Aaron shakes his head before roaring and splashing after her.

Jo: Wook!! Birds!!!

Aaron: Yeaah I see... Oh hey, kid you probably shouldn't touch them.

Jo: Up! Up! I wanna fwy!!

After a while, Aaron's arms grew tired and he had to put her down. She pouted, attempting to apply all of her weight. Clint and Marie watched them, shocked expressions on their faces.

Clint: Uhh hey half-pint, come look what papa caught!

Jo's face lights back up and she runs off splashing to get a look at the fish.
