Led Clip Reading Light, Raniaco Reading Lamp
Not the best for my needs, but good enough for now. Four stars.
My house is incredibly dim. I've often lamented how dark my corner of the bedroom is and wished for a book light or other type of small lamp to help light up my books or my laptop keyboard.
This LED clip lamp is okay. It has three levels of brightness, controlled by a touchpad on the clip. The touch area is clearly outlined by a screened-on square, and while touching outside the square doesn't do anything, the square itself is VERY sensitive, and I find myself bumping against it way too often.
The lamp charges via USB, but not with a standard micro USB. It has a proprietary jack. A red light tells you when the lamp is charging, and the only indication you have that it needs charging is the main light getting dimmer. The red charge light is difficult to see; it shows up on the clip above the control square, and around the charge port, but I have to cup my hands around the clip and create a dark spot to see it at all.
The clip is huge. The base is about the size of a standard computer mouse, and if you're trying to clip it to the top edge of your laptop monitor, to illuminate the keyboard, it often shifts, slides, falls over, or straight-up pops off. Setting it next to the keyboard is a second-best option, but then the light head obscures part of the monitor.
The gooseneck is easily adjustable to get the light right where you need it. The three levels of brightness are nice; I generally use it on high. The design just makes the entire lamp very unstable. So many times when using it, it'll fall over, or tumble to the floor.
As for using this with books...I would not recommend using it with paperbacks; the clip is so big, it would make it incredibly awkward. Even on hardback books, unless you're resting them on a table or on your lap, the lamp can be bulky and awkward. The light is easily adjustable to the angle of the pages.
Overall, this isn't the best lamp for my needs, but it suits some of them well enough. I keep it by the side of my laptop, so I can see the keyboard as the house dims.
I received this at a discount in exchange for an honest review
