Meghan probably thought’ if Kate can pull a black dress to the British embassy for a reception, so can I’… If they applauded Kate for fashion sense then… I know Meghan is taking notes, so she isn’t crucified in the fashion world 😂 there isn’t an original bone in her is there? Playing it safe cuz, she scared 😂
Markle, we have a fashion challenge for you! They send stuff her anyway. Kate looks good and isn’t falling out her shoes going Clippity Clop.
No- No I could never hate these kiddos, I love them all so much! The most obvious answer is that, with the exception of Clippity Clop, they were captured by the Mountain Hounds and put to work accordingly; however, story wise I put a lot of thought into using kiddos to help Dolly’s story progress over time.
Yes they’re all young, but when I first conceived Dolly’s story I wanted the world to be seen from a child’s perspective, one who may seem helpless in a scenario like this, but who also possesses a unique outlook on what’s happening. These kids aren’t the strongest or wisest, but they are each growing with the world presented to them and for some, their maturity is either higher or lower as a result. I put them in this world because I wanted to push the limits of what “filly-blog” could be. Not just some other cutesy Q&A thing (which isn’t bad btw), but something with real struggle, real grit to it! I promise the kiddos will get better someday, but this is essential for each of their character developments, now that they’re a team uwu
A little passed midnight, but here’s goodbye to my 22nd birthday, which ended up being not so... Happy as I would have liked. It was without a doubt the worst due to some rude events, a surprising amount people in my personal life forgetting about today, and my parents letting work heavily influence what was supposed to be a nice birthday together, but you know what? The few messages I did receive and the two lovely pictures that @jade-mod tagged me in managed to lift my spirits, even if it was just a little 💜
And I figured hey, I’m not gonna end on a sour note, so I decided to make this for myself. I really do love all of you with my whole heart, and I hope you guys had a good day at least. Gonna rush off to bed and just think about these sweeties having a fun time, so goodbye October 24th and here’s to another, better year 💜
whoops here’s a bonus bday drawing for you @askscribbly cause I wasn’t 100% satisfied with it (glad you liked it though!). Wasn’t any trouble, since I already had the sketch

The Subway
Lucas Friar is new to the big city, all he's ever known is his small country town within Austin Texas.
A day before he's set to start at his new high school the Texan rides the subway in an attempt to get used to the route he'd have to take to school each day. To occupy his mind and calm his nerves about being so far from home, Lucas pulls out his history textbook to try catch up on the lesson plan he would be entering part of the way through.
A few minutes pass and Lucas is distracted when he spots two girls around his age enter the cart and stand a few feet away from him as they cling to a support bar. Lucas points his gaze back to the pages and tries to focus on the civil war but he can't help but find himself lifting his stare back to the two commuters, specifically the pretty brunette who's rambling loudly about kiwi lipgloss.
The blonde girl catches Lucas gazing over and he quickly pulls away his eyes feeling embarrassed he was caught but when Lucas looks up again he meets the gaze and goofy grin of the nameless brunette. He sends her a small smile and tries to play cool.
Suddenly, the blonde girl walks up to him and says something about her name being Maya and them dating and breaking up. All of which is a blur to the Texan as he was caught off guard.
Then the blonde girl, Maya, leaves and it's only seconds before the brunette goes stumbling backwards and Lucas reaches out to catch her, pulling her onto his lap in the process. She opens with a joke - at least he thinks it's a joke - about his past relationship with her friend. Lucas laughs quietly and introduces himself. She giggles and says ‘I love it.’
Lucas is left staring into the strangers eyes. The kind of eyes that make you wonder if brown has always felt so warm.
Whoa.
The Library
How could he possibly be so nervous around someone? It's not like Riley was threatening in anyway but there was something about the kindhearted girl that had Lucas terrified whenever he was alone with her.
Texting was the extent of their one on one conversations since he befriended her at school. The cute ‘we have the same class together’ kind of texts with lots of smiley emojis.
When they get partnered together in history, Lucas wonders if the universe is working for or against him in this particular situation. The rules of research included no electronics which would mean the two pre-teens had to physically communicate with each other face to face.
That evening he anxiously arrives at Riley’s apartment so they can walk to the library together. Luckily enough, both Maya and Farkle were joining them so he wouldn't be solely responsible for trying to keep a conversation flowing.
Once at the library, they sit together to do their project. Awkward. Awkward. Awkward. No one is saying anything. Lucas had therapy sessions - in conjunction with his anger management classes - that were less awkward than this.
They're just two people, why is it that they found it so difficult to converse one on one?
The librarian calls Riley over and Lucas sticks to his reading, trying not to psych himself out too much about the whole situation.
Riley returns, introduces herself like it’s the first time they've met and sits down with a conversation flowing right after.
Riley rests her head in her hand as she listens to Lucas admit something about his future goals that he's never told anyone before. Riley's staring back at him without a hint of judgement and a warm smile on her face. Lucas has himself questioning how they went from barely being able to say two words to each other, to feeling like he could tell her absolutely anything, in the space of minutes. Riley’s warm smile doesn't waver when she asks him to keep talking and Lucas realises he was holding his breath watching her.
Whoa.
The Play
Lucas was convinced the universe was working in his favour when saw his name next to Romeo and Riley’s beside Juliet in the cast list posted on the bulletin board at school.
Although, it’s not long before Lucas finds himself questioning the universes motives again when Farkle hijacks his big moment on stage. But, after some quiet pondering Lucas wonders if the turtleneck wearing genius did him a favour. Was Lucas really ready for his first kiss with Riley to be on stage in front of his family and peers? His first kiss ever? No. Not yet at least.
After Farkle's personal crisis is resolved, Lucas, finds him trying it on with Riley again in the drama room. Farkle kisses her chin and Lucas hears Maya begin to tease Riley about the encounter but he doesn't allow the blonde to finish sentence as he swoops in with the monologue he was denied on stage. Riley happily plays along and climbs upon the faux bed she laid upon during the actual play.
Riley opens her eyes with a sweet "hi" and Lucas makes a promise that his moment will be his moment. He rises from his crouched position and turns to leave.
Lucas hears a chuckle escape Riley. He stops to take a glance back at her and what could have been their first kiss but strangely enough he's glad it wasn't.
He walks away with the thought of what would be their first kiss. When and how it would happen. He has to think of something else because well, whoa.
The Election
After Riley nominates Lucas for class president he finds himself running against a princess and a dictator. He wins thanks to Riley’s and Maya’s even though Maya wanted to sabotage him she gets credit thoughtful video message from some of his friends back in Texas.
After some secret plotting of his own Lucas makes the romantic gesture of inviting Riley on the white horse. She asks him what she is to him. A lot of things, but today? Well, today she’s a princess.
“Look at us,” Riley says sweetly as she leans her head on his back.
Whoa.
The Date
Finally, after what felt like a lifetime, Lucas was going to have his first date with Riley. After calming down Farkle about his fears of losing all nerve to say anything he himself loses all creditability as he’s literally left speechless at the sight of Riley arriving. The whoa feeling he gets around her intensifies.
The date only lasts as long as the subway ride before Riley’s needed with her best friend. Shortly after Riley returns to her date the same way she first met him, stumbling through the subway. Again, Lucas reaches out to catch her. The two share a sweet second take of their very first introduction and Riley gives Lucas a kiss. Of all the ways he imagined it happening - after the play - never did he imagine it like this, this was better, much better.
It may have been the shortest first date in existence but Lucas is sure it was the best.
The Flour Shaker
It's strange, attending a funeral of someone you didn't know too well. Sure, on the times Lucas came to the Ukrainian bakery he'd interact with Mrs. Svorski, she'd been pleasant, fierce at times but always kind. Lucas was there to pay his respects and support his friend and her family at this time.
The Texan watched on in admiration as Riley, whom he's learnt over time has a way with words, executed her farewell speech to the old lady perfectly.
He watches on as she comforts her younger brother whom had a close relationship with the dearly departed. Lucas watches as Riley interacts with Auggie with such kindness in her eyes and can't help but smile at the sight.
There's something about it that has him growing nervous, out of nowhere he's thinking about everything that has been between them the past year and the possibility of what's to come.
Whoa.
The Next Step
What's the next step after going on a date with a girl you really like and sharing your first kiss with her and it's so wonderful that it scrambles any ability you have to think clearly? Well, you spend an entire summer being a goofball in her presence of course.
When the new school year is set in full swing it seems as though nothing else was happening in the world for people to worry about as they all had their noses in Riley and Lucas' personal business. So much so that Lucas found himself in a relationship with Riley. It's not that he didn't want to be in a relationship with her, of course he did, it just didn't feel right. With the pressure of their fellow peers pushing them together it eliminated any chance Lucas has to actually ask Riley officially, or for them to come together naturally.
With this being said things didn't feel as magical as they had the night they first kissed. The watchful eyes of everyone as they go on a 'date' at the newly converted bakery had it feeling less like a date and more like a test they hadn't studied for. Sitting there, not talking, Lucas wonders if he likes Riley as much as he thought? "You’re one of my favourite people to talk to.” Nope, he definitely did.
Who would have thought breaking up with Riley would make Lucas so happy? After returning to the bakery as friends - with a pause on the boyfriend/ girlfriend stuff - the teens relaxed enough to talk how the usually do.
Riley rants about the Knicks and Lucas slips out a “I really like you, Riley” to which she chuckles nervously. Maybe boyfriend and girlfriend right now wasn’t the right thing for them but definitely one day because, whoa.
The Arrival of Zay
Just when things settle into a rhythm both Riley and Lucas are comfortable with, a spanner is thrown into the works. That tool is named Zay. Lucas’ childhood pal transfers to his school and manages to ruin the good image he’s spent a year creating for himself in the matter of one class.
Riley begins to worry about Lucas being different to what she thought. This is the first time Lucas ever felt that whoa feeling in this particular way. It’s the same sweaty palms and fast paced beating of his heart but its drenched in panic that who he is now, wouldn’t matter to Riley because of who he was.
“I used to be different than I am now.”
“What happened?”
“I came here.”
Riley wears a small smile and Lucas thinks that there’s hope for them still.
The Bird
Mr. Matthews uses Pluto as a point to explain that history can in fact change. This exposes Lucas to the ‘Riley Committee’. He wants to join, he always wants to protect her.
Maya tells Riley to look for a bird and the brunette gazes around the room with her mouth agape and Lucas stares at her with the warm feeling in his chest.
The Way She Brings Him Back
Detention. Lucas joined Mayaville as he fears he’s become boring and even after kidnapping Riley and forcing her out of the classroom she’s got a warm smile ready to help Lucas wipe off his war paint.
He asks her to call him Maddog. She asks him to call her Princess Dancing Sunshine. They mutually agree to never do that. Riley continues to help clear his face. Lucas smiles at her, not because of the silly nicknames but for the fact that she brought him back and he knew she’d always have to power to do so.
Whoa.
The Semi-Formal
That panicked whoa feeling returns when Charlie asks Riley to the dance. At first Lucas is jealous and then he grows confused. Eventually he realises he’s got complacent with the whole, ‘unofficial thing’ they have going on. It works out okay in the end but the uneasy feeling remains.
The Bunny Farmer
Riley Matthews was not going to be a bunny farmer but she was going to secretly hoard floppy eared creatures in her room. This is just one of the hundred of goofy moments that see the Texan with hearts in his eyes and whoa’s in his chest.
The Mayor of Rileytown
Finding out that something was happening to Riley may have been the worst thing Lucas has ever heard in his life. An immediate urge to fix it was all Lucas could think about, but, he listens to Riley’s pleas to let her handle things on her own.
Seeing her do the ‘bonjour’ of French Riley in the bakery had him literally questioning how somebody couldnt love her quirks.
All Lucas wants to do is protect Riley, but he comes to realise that sometimes protecting her means standing back and watching her protect herself. Then watching her stand up to her bully in the hall made him feel something completely new. The same whoa feeling but different again to those he’s felt before. He was proud. He was in awe.
The Bull
Even though she’s partly responsible for him having to face Tombstone the bull it meant everything to him that she was there to support him.
“I believe in you, I believe you can do anything you want to. Go out there. Be the hero I know you are.” That’s exactly what he needed to hear. Lucas was going to do this regardless of what anyone said because he needed to do it for himself. Riley knew that so she encouraged him with positivity.
The prospect of Riley going after Maya and not being there to watch him, to support him, had Lucas worried. He needed her. Riley being there, believing in him, it made him strong and even though he’s scared beyond belief having here there made it a little easier.
Lucas is thrown from the bull and after coming to, Riley’s face is the first thing he sees. He did it and she knew he could.
Whoa.
He’s ready, it’s the right time and the right place in his eyes. He’s conquered one of his biggest fears and he was ready to face another, his feelings for Riley.
Lucas begins to tell Riley how important she is to him and how her belief in him got him through today and his entire move. In fact, he was now realising that even though he’s been scared of his feelings for Riley this whole time that having her by his side made the world less scary to live in.
Lucas is about to pull her aside but she steers the conversation in a direction he was never expecting. A brother. How could she see him like a brother? The whoa feeling in his chest is registering like it did when he thought Riley wanted to go to the dance with Charlie but even worse. It’s out of control and he’s left confused.
And again, later after they dance, Riley explains that what she wants is to always talk to each other. He wants to respect her wishes but what about his own? What if that’s not what he wants. Lucas even lightly brushes on the thought when Riley tries to leave the campfire. Then she’s outing Maya’s feelings and moments later he has the blonde girl by the face and a completely different whoa feeling in his chest. Nothing was going to plan.
The Brother Period
Any feelings Lucas did have are replaced with confusion. That’s how it was for months. The more time that went on, the less Lucas understood about how he felt. He knew he didn’t like the idea of Riley dating Charlie, not even a little. He thought he liked Charlie but now his very existence seems to agitate Lucas.
Auggie doesnt want Lucas to be Riley’s brother. Riley doesn’t want Lucas to be her boyfriend. What does that mean for the two of them? Any unexplainable whoa feeling in Lucas’ chest is now replaced with a bunch of question marks.
The Revelation
12:00am 01/01/16
“Riley still loves Lucas!”
WHOA.
The Triangle
Confusion mixed with a little more confusion and a side of, can you guess?Confusion.
The jellybeans help. But like always, the scales are evened out. In the end Lucas winds up alone in his room with two packets of beans. Purple and yellow.
He starts to think of reasons why he’d be lucky enough to date either girl. They both have their pros, so many pros. They’re in heaped piles on his bed and Lucas seems to be no closer to making a proper decision.
Mrs. Friar walks in to see what’s got her son so huffy. Lucas doens’t talk about the triangle much and she tries to respect his wishes and not pry but Lucas lets her come in and he starts to open up.
“What’s all this?” She motions towards the beans on his bed as she sits beside him, “You playing some sort of game?”
“The least fun game in the entire world,” Lucas lets out a frustrated groan.
“Is this about Riley and Maya?” She asks softly trying to delicately approach forbidden territory.
“There’s a lot at stake here,” Lucas nods.
“When it comes down to it, honey,” She reaches for her sons hand, “It’s about the girl you can’t live without.”
“But I can’t give one up for the other,” Lucas shakes his head, “Even if I wanted that they’d never want that for each other. I can’t win.”
“Okay, I’m not asking you to give up your friends,” She tries to soothe him, “Just try and think of your life without each of them. What it was before them, what it’s like with them and what it would be like without them now.”
“But-“
“Your mama is smarter than you think,” She holds out a finger to stress her stare. “Now you have to work out which one it is and then find a way to make it work for all of you.”
“Thanks,” Lucas half smiles and waits till she leaves before flopping back on his bed and staring at the ceiling.
Lucas starts to think of ‘Texas Lucas’ - as that part of him had been nicknamed amongst his friends - and he thinks of his anger issues and old school. He thinks about the day he met Riley. He thinks about the person he’s become, he thinks about how he was scared he was when that part was exposed to her. He thinks about how she calms him. How he realised she’d always be able to bring him back. He thinks about how he told her of this fact in Texas, that she helped in survive New York. He thinks about why he originally said that, how she made life less scary. He thinks about how on edge he was during the period where he believed she didnt like him anymore. How easily agitated he was by Charlie. Texas Lucas was already slipping through the cracks. He knows Riley was pulling away because of Maya and her feelings and he wonders what would have come of them if Farkle hadn’t exposed Riley’s feelings. Lucas knows he would have just slowly slipped into bad habits, his old ways seemed harder to control without Riley there. It’s not just that he wants to be better for her it’s that she brings it out in him without even trying. He knew one thing for sure, he couldn’t be the person he wants to without Riley in his life and that made everything abundantly clear to him. She’s the one he can’t live without. It had been hours and she was the only one he even thought about. There was no reason to entertain any other idea because it had always been Riley.
Suddenly all the confusion clouding the whoa feeling in his chest washes away. He was never confused about his feelings but scared of them, like he has been since the first day in the subway only now Lucas was scared of losing her because of hurting someone else. He had to tell Riley before he looses his nerve. Lucas runs out of his apparent and doesnt stop until he’s in Riley’s bay window. He was going to tell her and then they’d find a way to make it work. Together.
The Pause Before the Reveal
Lucas’ feelings had been put on pause again. No one really meant to silence him but it happened. He had finally decluttered his mind and come to realise something he’s alway known; it was always Riley, but again figuring out what was wrong with Maya would become first priority and Lucas was okay with that. He knew they had to find a way to make it work for all of them if he truly wanted to be with Riley so he’d wait.
“Deep down Maya is beautiful.” Lucas says as a friendly remark, something showing he cares about his friend in her time of need. Riley wears a look of jealously as she tells Lucas to calm down, a smile creeps upon his face and he tells himself to hold on just a little longer.
It was nice to feel the whoa again. The good whoa.
The Ski Lodge:
Lucas been carrying around the purple jellybean for weeks. It was burning a hole in his pocket. The longer he held onto it the more nervous it made him about giving it to Riley. He brought it on their nature trip with the full intention of ending this triangle once and for all. He spent the entire bus ride there mentally psyching himself up about it but suddenly both girls are pushing for the end of the triangle and he buckles under his nerves.
Then, when Lucas finds Riley has been talking all night with a boy his whoa feelings turns to one similar of when he thought Riley liked Charlie. He was scared. Things were falling apart before he even got them together.
Finally he’s talking with Maya. She says only one of them makes his heart go clippity clop and for once her stereotyping summed him up perfectly. She described something he’s struggled too for years. Riley made his heart go clippity clop.
He finds her. His heart is racing, he’s more nervous than he was before riding tombstone. His voice is wavering all over the place but he tells her. He explains, he finally owns the clippity clop feeling he gets when he’s with her.
“I choose you, Riley and I really want you to choose me too,” he says through a nervous giggle.
“I do, I always did.”
She gives him the leaf she’d been holding onto since they got there and she tells him she’s glad she fell into his lap and it’s as if nothing had ever been more meaningful to him than that moment.
This clippity clop feeling that Maya so perfectly described was someone thing Lucas had felt since Riley fell into his lap on the subway. At the time it all felt so new and exciting, indescribable until now, something that only ever came across when he was with Riley something he could only ever think of as whoa.
At first the whoa's were good, wonderful, amazing even but then he experienced an almost identical feeling but it was cloaked with fear, how was it he could have the same whoa feeling for Riley and it be both good and bad?
Now, sat in the bay window of a ski lodge, looking into the same warm eyes he had all that time ago on the subway, Lucas understands. He understands that the whoa -the clippity clop - whether it good or bad was just a natural and uncontrollable response he had with Riley. It's his heart telling him what took him too long to figure out, he loves her.
So the bad ones was his fear of losing her whereas the good ones were his hope that things would remain like this. And all the times Lucas questioned the universe, well he thanks it because whatever ultimate plan the universe had in those instances lead Lucas to this extract moment. His moment. Their moment.
Whoa.
End Notes: The stress I had over one P or two in clippity.. Please just accept that I used two bc I CANT DSLFH
I have something similar in mind for Riley. It’s a little different but something Riley centric about their moments. It probably won't be the next thing I post but it will be soon.
Also with long posts like this I miss way more errors than I normally do. So my apologies. I hope it’s readable.
