We don’t need a user manual do we? I hate user manuals.
AGH I JUST LOVE HIM SO MUCH
because here's the thing: he has these goofy lines and he's kinda big and chubby and the body/voice type typically cast as the comedic relief ESPECIALLY because he's married to the big bad so he's either got to be equally evil or just the big dumb oaf head henchman
but throughout the story you see him demonstrate self-awareness more and more
and by the end it dawns on you
he's the freaking mastermind behind everything
and it's not even because he's evil
it's because he's in love
like when he saves the guard from being beheaded because "she'll forget" you really get it--he's been doing this stupid act the whole time so she feels like she's in charge, but he's really the only one who fully understands what's going on and realizes the gravity of it, and he lets it all happen because he loves her
"I would have conquered the world for one smile" is probably the most heartbreaking line ever because that is truly how (many) men are when they're in love. Husband gets really upset when I'm unhappy--not because I need to be happy for him or something weird like that, but because he DESPERATELY wants to make me happy and almost everything he does is in an effort to bring happiness to me and to our family. And what makes Winston Heart's lady love happy? Conquest. So he conquers. Everything. For her. But it's still not enough.
And his final scene is just so beautiful because he finally realizes that he will never be enough, that this relationship is toxic and has cost countless lives and is going nowhere, and he finally lets go.
I HAVE A LOT OF WINSTON HEART FEELINGS OKAY
