What's Ranboo's clock symbolism? You talk about it a lot but I don't remember him using clocks!
HELLO AND WELCOME TO A LESSON ON CLOCK SYMBOLISM WITH “CLOCK” THEENDERWALKER :D
So i went over it in depth in this post a while back but why not talk about it again right before prison break, cause a lot of it has to do with prison lore!
There’s really two facets to the clock symbolism in regards to Ranboo: the ARG, and the prison—if you couldn’t guess, it’s heavily tied to the enderwalk lore and endersmile!
It was first explicitly linked to ranboo during the arg, but they had been building the significance of that link for a little bit before them, if you’ll recall Dream commenting on “liking the clock when it’s at halfway”, for instance.
Essentially, for short, the time/clock motif was built up in the enderwalk arg through the clues and teasers: clock ticking being used for a teaser, prologue from black friday being on the lore playlist, the first clue was clock in ender, calling “the enderwalkers” ‘circadians’, and Z’s pocket watch.
And then with that, establishing the clock as a symbol related to the enderwalk state, you can look back at the way Dream’s clock in the prison was used as analogous to Ranboo in some ways! For instance, Dream would destroy his clock in the lava but he always got it back for the first two weeks. He didn’t get it back when he met with BBH, which was the same day Ranboo was barred from entering the prison again. The next and final time he got his clock was meeting with Sapnap, when he was able to get a message out to Ranboo, and he never got it back after that—when he no longer had any contact with Ranboo.
Using this idea of the clock being symbolic of or related to Ranboo gives us a bit of extra insight into their dynamic during the early days of the prison arc that I think is really interesting and has the potential to be relevant as soon as today! :D
Thank you for asking!! This is genuinely one of my favorite things to talk about!
