Is Clock Tower II: The Struggle Within (yesterday) a Soup or a Salad?
Soup
Salad
This week, I decided for game movies I was going to watch the other clocktowers in the series in video game movie form.
I watched a full gameplay of clocktower 3 many years ago, and fondly remember its absolutely bonkers plotline, and had been meaning to check out the others at some point, so I decided why not now.
I had meant to watch 1 first, but due to 2 being labled as 1, started on that first, which I think worked out pretty well for me actually. I supplemented Knowlege with TV tropes, and learned a lot of what I missed watching the movie.
One of the few flaws with watching a movie, is it doesn't give substituting infromation for why that ending happened , so an ending where a protagonist fails due to lack of infromation when you saw them get it in the gameplay goes unexplained.
It was also good that I watched 2 first as it was the longest, and today I watched 1 and struggle within back to back.
I think the atmosphere of 2 was spookiest to me, or maybe I took more time to think about it. 1 was a solid game, and struggle within was actively funny to me.
Its got a lot of potential for cool concept, with the protagonist being a could be scissorman, and the personality swaps needed to progress throughout the game and interact with characters correctly (or die), was a neat idea. But it missed the mark for spooky atmosphere and landed in funny, as I could not help but crack up whenever the protagonist spoke in the voice of Bates (who did have good voice acting). Particularly When Bates was trying to do a badass boast or be threatning, only to get them taken out like a punk.
Kind of like Freaky, that movie where the serial killer and the protagonist swap bodies, which is a cool concept but failed to do anything particularly cool beyond the concept with it. Except I was more entertained by this then Freaky.
Then I watched most of the first hour of Parasite Eve 2. I liked Parasite Eve 1 better so far, as it had a cooler setup, and characters, particularly Daniel who was great, but I like Aya, and am curious to see what she gets up to, and if the follow up games are as much of a letdown as people say. I'll have to see.
This drawing is terrible and I should be stoned for it. Detective Alyssa "Bates" Hale/Maxwell; not 100% certain.

"There was someone else here?" Ruby stepped towards the girl. She didn't want to keep to close to the hole in the floor in fear that it would swallow her as well.
"Micheal is my cousin. He's usually in his room playing on his computer or practicing his kendo; but he's not there." Alyssa clutched her hand against her chest beginning to feel nervous.
Ruby noted the dark hallway she had just ran through. It was pitch black. "You were pretty brave charging in here; that monster nearly got me!"
"...M-monster?" Alyssa went cold.
Ruby began thinking for herself. Oh. A normal girl. I guess she's not used to facing these sort of otherworldly creatures.
"My niece is no monster but..."
"Niece... didn't you just say cousin a moment ago?"
Both of them stopped in their tracks when they began to hear a little girl laughing down the hallway.
"My little niece... her name is Stephanie..." Alyssa began to back away from the door as the laughing grew louder. "I found her in her bedroom... her eyes were golden and wild. She held a large knife in her hand and tried to attack me..."
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Ruby's pupils shrank. "You mean there's two things after us now!?"
The light from the open doorway already reflected back the glowing eyes of the murderous child that lay within. Casual chuckling as if the girl had seen a man tell a funny joke.
But if that was a man; he would have been quickly murdered. This child seemed to be gripped by possession; being guided like a puppet by a spiritual being. The knife glinted next, like a protruding tooth.
Ruby noticed that Alyssa had a revolver holstered on her leg. "You have a gun, why don't you use it!?"
"I have a gun...?" The girl must have forgotten she was carrying it. "Wait... no... I can't use it."
Ruby was flabbergasted. "Why not!?"
"She's only a child... what's more... she's family." Alyssa could still only see the genuine smiling face of Stephanie. Now it was splattered with blood- she probably didn't even know what acts she was performing.
"If there's another way, think fast." Ruby scuttled backwards. Alyssa did the same, being terrified.
"Please! Listen to me Stephanie!" Alyssa cried out.
The possessed child drew closer ignoring her words.
"I'm Alyssa. Alyssa Hale. Don't you remember me?"
Drenched in light, Stephanie stopped and looked at the schoolgirl. She tilted her head slightly to look up at her. Without warning, she lunged.
"Alyssa watch out!" Ruby dove towards Alyssa and pushed her body to the ground. The knife scraped the air and both girls fell with a clunk on the wooden floor that ached with the force. As they both tried to scuttle quickly to their feet, the floor had began to cave underneath them thanks to the old hole created by the Samurai monster. Ruby felt herself slipping first but Alyssa managed to step on solid ground and hold her a while.
Too exhausted to hold on, Ruby's fingers slipped through, as she fell down into the darkness with a scream.
Ooof. Red riding hood landed backwards into a heap on the floor. As she groaned for a short while, she remembered the dire situation she was in. First was first. She searched the room for the Samurai, which was in a heap on the floor. On top of the armor was more layers of rubble. She aimed to be careful around it, but relaxed when she noticed a strange object next to it. In the dark room, it was hard to make out but it seemed like a simple necklace. Scooping it up in her hands and holding it to the pillar of light from the upper floor.
At closer inspection, it didn't seem like a necklace at all, more like a warding amulet. It was a bronze plaque engraved with a simple blue sun icon attached to thick red string. She decided to keep it with her just encase it could be helpful later. She didn't really believe in small objects dispelling evil spirits but anything counted here at this point. She pocketed it, not before she heard a scream from above.
"Alyssa!" Ruby cried out.
Her acquaintances scream was followed by a gunshot. "Did she actually shoot her niece!?" The thoughts thundered through her head. The only way she could find out was by leaving this room and heading back upstairs.
Sunk back into darkness, Ruby began to shiver as she heard a terrifying voice rip through the house. "You little shit... why won't you die..."
Did that just come from the Samurai? Ruby could only just hear it from the room she had left. It hadn't spoken before, but if it had, she could easily imagine it to have a masculine tone like that. Rather than look back on it, Ruby headed onwards without looking back, she didn't want to be found by it again. Even at the stairway, Ruby still couldn't find her weapon in the darkness. The priority though was finding Alyssa and Stephanie up the stairs.
Footsteps were above her. She heard a gun click from the balcony. As she reached for the light she could see the girl in green pointing a gun at her.
"Hold up! I'm no monster!" Ruby raised her hands in the air.
What red saw and heard next nearly scarred her. Alyssa's eyes darkened, fingers twitched on the trigger. What had been a terrified look on her face when she saw her against Stephanie was now that of a frown.
The same voice she had heard from the samurai room she now heard here. Whatever it was, it did not belong to Alyssa at all. "Who the hell are you...?"
"I'm... Ruby Rose..." If Alyssa was possessed as well, she would have to think of a strategy to dodge a bullet. Literally.
"Give me a reason why I shouldn't kill you." The voice commanding Alyssa began to chuckle darkly.
"I was investigating this house with Alyssa as part as of an investigation into a spiritual entity that may or may not be related to a Grimm."
"Well Alyssa isn't home right now. You've answered the door to Bates." He/She still held the gun towards Ruby. She still wasn't safe yet.
Ruby felt like she was about to dig her grave with her next question. "Bates... if that's who you are... do you know anything about these monsters in the house?"
At long last Bates finally rested the gun away from Ruby's forehead. "I dunno. I just kill stuff for the fun of it. But I especially don't like it when others get in the way. Silly brat in the other room wouldn't stay quiet, so I shot her."
"Stephanie?"
Bates shrugged. "Look, I don't really know or care who she is. But if some lowly brat thinks they can threaten me then..."
Ruby was still confused by the ordeal. She seemed to be looking upon a rather violent ghost or entity that was currently inhabiting Alyssa's body. She wondered if she could pull any more information out of him. She pulled out the bronze warding amulet from her pocket and showed it to Bates. He could already sense the power resonating from it.
"Where did you get that...?"

Late horrorfic! RWBY and Clocktower. Ruby Rose meets Alyssa Hale on a task to find a killer at her home.
-
The girl in red; Ruby Rose. Her body trembled as her body heaved against the door, to prevent the passage of the intruder that banged against it. She fumbled for her weapon; her fingers sunk through an invisible sheathed Crescent Rose.
Lost in the darkness. It was in her possession moments ago. It must have slipped free when she had ran up the stairs. Whatever was behind the door, was incredibly slow. The heavy footsteps seems to lift up and down, rubbing against the wooden door like a robot. Heavy metal armour clinked with each step. Red was trapped in this room with all but a window sealed together with wooden planks.
As she tried her best to keep quiet; she panicked for her life in complete silence. It was almost maddening. As she pushed her sweaty hands through her hair, frantically thinking what to do she hadn't noticed the brief period of silence outside. Had the samurai given up? She sat there still, nearly holding her breath. She lowered her heartbeat to deathly levels.
Crash. The crush of splinters as a long rusty blade nearly ripped through her head. The two handed cleaver ripped through the door, only slightly missing her head of hair. She reeled back away from the wooden splinters. The sword slowly pulled out of the door before slamming down in a strong strike once again. The gaping hole revealed the rusty samurai Armour behind it. Hundreds of years old, it looked like an old family heirloom come to life.
There was a body inside it though. Somebody hiding within it. Alive or dead... Ruby wasn't sure of. But whoever was in the armor was merely out to brutally murder he for trespassing into his domain.
As the last slice came down, the third strike was all it took to completely decimate the door. The samurai began to push himself inside. There was no use keeping quiet now; the armor wanted her dead. It's sword was raised high as it stepped within.
"This must be it... this must be the murderer that I was warned about!"
There had to be a way to fight it unarmed. Lacking room to play with, Ruby fumbled in the darkness. The monster in armor was already so close. It swung down its blade low to accustom to her short height. The sword crashed into the wooden floor as she stumbled aside - he was set to cut her clean in half from head to toe.
Ruby tightened into a corner as her eyes made out the blurry knight in the black room. It seemed to have stuck in place with the sword lodged in the ground, but it's humongous might ripped the sword back out, rupturing a hole in the floor. As it slowly turned to attack Ruby who had been cornered, a foot slipped to the side. It tumbled diagonally and down - the floor weakened by his sword gave away to his weight and it fell to the floor below.
Ruby was still terrified to move. A once motionless piece of armour in the house had nearly killed her three times. "This building really is cursed... I need to find her."
A light in the room turned itself on. Across the room, she saw a girl dressed in what looked like a green school uniform. She wore a yellow bow and yellow headband, with medium brown hair. A white gathered skirt, neat clean shoes and delicate brown eyes.
Her eyes had began to fill with fear as she saw what had just happened to Ruby.
"Alyssa?"
"Ruby... did you see where Micheal went?"
