He was a child again, and lost in an endless vastness of nothing. In the distance, there was a figure that he could see --small, but there where nothing else was. His small legs took him as fast as they could carry him towards it. Towards her as he was able to make out a feminine figure. Her back was turned, and she was humming, the tune hauntingly familiar. The small Kresnik boy tugged gently at her skirts, vying for he attention, yet as she turned, there was simple nothingness upon her features. Like her face had been blurred and skewed from view. He took two steps back, his arms holding himself in a bid for some comfort that he couldn't find when a blade, similar to his big brother's, penetrated her form. Crimson beaded from the sword as she slumped down, her expressionless face quickly turning grey before she hit the floor. He ran, unsure to where he was running, but he ran all the same, heart pounding and legs pumping, feet slamming against the white ground when something else came into view. It looked like a crowd of people. Surely he could find some safety there, and he slowed his pace, his body unable to do much more as he began to recognize who these people were.Jude. Alvin. Leia. Rowen. Elize. Gaius. Muzet. Maxwell. They were all there, smiling, happy. He himself had aged, no longer a child, and more akin to the man he was outside of this surreal nature. It was then that the blade returned, a sleek, fluid motion slicing them all in twain. And they stayed there, happily smiling as they all collapsed in a heap. There was no more running. The expanse turned black, and everything was closing in. He could see someone approach him now. A familiar man, his white jacket dashed with blood and his face half-blackened.What had happened to Julius..?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Ludger awoke to a dull pain in his head, one that was reignighted when something impacted gently against it. Immediately, he grabbed the item in question, yanking it towards him and away from Juli--Oh. Leia. Slowly, he relinquished his grip around her staff, rubbing absentmindedly at his head."Hey.." She breathed, concern rife in her voice. "I know you're s'posed to throw water on people to wake 'em up, but I didn't know where anything was to get the water here.." She admitted a little sheepishly, but her eyes, emerald and large held worry. Dammit. He hadn't wanted to worry anybody."I'm fine." Ludger quickly responded, sighing largely and wiping the sweat from his face. "Except from my head." Perhaps a small jest would lighten the mood. He didn't want Leia to see him like this.

Ludger fought Julius numerous times --it was how his big brother trained him, how he taught him how to fight. But this time was different. This time, there was an intent gleaming in his eye that hadn't been there any other time. A cold, vicious intent that had Ludger believe that he wasn't just training. He was fighting for his life.Julius was faster, his actions more strong, vicious even whenever he thrust his sword forward at a vital point. He was silent, no commending or praise or advice coming from his lips as it often did. No, this time there was just nothing. It was just the fight, and it was more intense that any battle that Ludger had ever faced against his big brother. He found himself on the floor more times than he would care to like, and each time he would stagger back to his feet only to be met with an onslaught, a flurry of blades swiping relentlessly at him. He was covered in blood, cuts adorning his body, his face, his clothes were dyed crimson almost completely, and still, Ludger would stand.Julius' eyes narrowed, his countenance honing dangerously. "Hm." He breathed, though there was no fondness in his tone. "Time to stop playing around." And he darted forward at an unparalleled speed, and Ludger had no time to block or dodge. A deep swipe to his abdomen stung, numbed his very being. His blades dropped from his hands as another was given, almost acutely at the same spot. Then again. And again before Julius darted past him. The younger Kresnik was clutching his stomach now, eyes glassy and pleading wordlessly. A plea that did not reach his big brother, as a cross cleave hurtled towards him, and he was consumed in a burning white light.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Gh--!!"Ludger awoke with a start, and when he saw a form hanging over his, he shoved aimlessly, reaching around the back of the couch for his twin blades. It was in a moment, when his panicked frenzy had calmed that he noticed it was simply the woman he was tending to. A large breath left him, and the blades were dropped. It wasn't the first time that Ludger had endured that dream, but it was still just as vivid, just as real as before."Sorry.." He breathed between soft pants, a hand wiping at his sweat-adorned face as he shook the feeling that heckled at each nerve within him. Dammit, he was supposed to be looking after her, and he had been ready to battle her. This wasn't how it was supposed to go.

There he saw her, mercilessly kicked to the side by a long leg clad in expensive-looking red cloth. Both his hands were busied, one holding tightly onto Milla, the other digging his lance tightly into the floor to keep them both above ground. Milla was struggling in his grip, insisting that she be dropped. That he saves Elle from the ferocity, the inhuman nature that Rideaux possessed. Her words, however, fell onto deaf ears, eyes glued to the girl who had curled in on herself on the floor after sustaining such a blow. This time, he would make her happy. This time, he wouldn't drop Milla, and he would save them both.He tugged at the writhing hand, pulling her up with what might he could muster, despite her protestations. He yanked himself up safely onto the ledge next, shoving Milla away from the abyss before catching his breath."Elle!" The voice was Milla's as she got to her feet. Ludger followed suit not a moment later and turned to see the young girl now on her back on the floor, each hand cruelly stepped on by Rideaux. She was crying, her head was shaking and through her tears, the words 'please' and 'stop' could be heard. Anger filled him, an insurmountable rage consuming the younger Kresnik as he barreled around the large void in the floor to grab him, peel him off her, and beat him to a pulp for good measure."Ah, ah, ah..." He chided, the blade that Elle had picked up in his hand, poised at the girl's throat. She silenced quickly, and Ludger stopped in his tracks. Damn him. With Elle under him, he controlled the floor, and Ludger wasn't shy about his displeasure for that fact."Aren't you tired of running around for this brat?" He asked, not that he really cared for an answer --simply wanting to rub salt in the wound. Ludger didn't answer, eyes boring daggers into the other, earning a wicked chuckle. "My, everyday's like halloween with you making that face." The sword inched forward, Elle yelping under the pressure that was now at her throat."Anyway, I only asked because I'm tired myself. I'm tired of running around for Bisley, playing nice with you, keeping you alive. If he thinks anyone's getting to Canaan, I suppose he ought to think again. The intention was clear, and Ludger wasted no time in drawing a pistol. A shot rang loudly in the large hall, yet it missed it's target, his aim skewed by the slight kick at the back of his leg. The sound of fighting could be heard, undoubtedly Milla taking care of the soldier that had send him hurtling forwards into the abyss, clinging to the edge by only one hand. He was beneath Elle, beneath Rideaux, and he saw the cruel smirk that the man wore. All he could see was the blade edging forwards. A scream, then silence. He withdrew the blade, the tip coated in blood."Elle--!"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Elle--!"Ludger sat upright in his bed, his breath ragged and a cold sweat beading at his brow. There was a weight on him that was foreign, and that was when he saw Elle sitting on top of him, hugging tightly at his waist as she looked up, her eyes concerned. Saddened."You were makin' funny noises so I wanted to make sure you were okay." She whispered meekly, burying her face into his torso once more. "But I can't look after you like this all the time, y'understand?"He would have smiled gently at that if he hadn't been so shaken. To see that so vividly affront him. Well, it confirmed one thing for him. Ludger would not regret the decision he made that day. If that was a possibility of what might happen, he would ensure the girl's safety above all else. Leaning forward slightly, his arms wrap around Elle, holding her tightly to him, her warmth being a welcome reminder of her livelihood. She was here, and she kept him going. A lesson had been learned this night. A terrible lesson well-learned.
