Wikizilla user Shinomura alerted me to an obscure Dark Horse Godzilla comic, published in Insane #1 (February 1988). This was just their second outing with the character, after the 1987 Godzilla, King of the Monsters one-shot. Since it's a parody, a bunch of Toho kaiju Dark Horse could never afford to license came out to play... along with Gamera! The punch line, if you can call it that, is lamentable.

A little bit of existential horror! Clodzilla is apparantly NOT actually a bad actor who died, but a yokai spawned from his abandoned costume that just..somehow remembers being that human even though he wasnt?? Like did this guy's soul just split into two or something? Is he a clone of him? Wtf would happen if the two of them met??? Like fuckin imagine how scary it would be to wake up eternally trapped in your costume, but then you see LITERALLY YOURSELF walking past and you open up your zipper to find nothing inside

WHY DID YOU RAISE ALL THESE QUESTIONS, YOKAI WATCH

Anyway, Directator has a lil montage of parodying various godzilla sequel names

Yaaay even the AD assistant dudes came back!! They seem rather off in this episode though, theyre not as animated actually doing stuff and instead are more like stock images filling space in the background. Not a single line of dialogue :(

I guess this is whats to be expected from Directator just being a small supportibg role ib this episode but still im like GIVE ME MORE OF MY BOYYY

Predictably, Clodzilla keeps messing up his takes. Although this time its cos he tries too hard to avoid failing that he ends up being the worlds most polite dinosaur with zero intimidation factor

But Directator loves it all! He was such a good choice to cheer up a failing actor, his sense of cinematography is so completely bonkers that its no wonder he instantly became Clodzilla's biggest fan!

DIRECTATOR ACTUALLY LEGIT HELPED SOMEONE THROUGH THEIR DEPRESSION AND EVERYTHING WAS ALL OKAY

And this dude who failed at being a serious actor finally found his success! All he had to do was try a different genre! I love how it turned from 'directator is too stupid to know his movie is clearly bad' to 'directator planned all along to show this dude that his real home is in comedy and he has real talent after all'.

Augh i know the anime formula though so now probably some sort of unforeseen disaster will appear out of nowhere to ruin the happy ending

Man the anime is so bad about recurring characters, so many times it seems like theyre settibg up for someone being recurring and then they just vanish for ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX EPISODES

Just suddenly some random episode near the very end of the series, after all these years of getting no mention whatsoever except a ten pixel tall blurry as fuck cameo in a crowd scene in the second movie

This is so obscure that the wiki doesnt even have any info on it, it says he stopped existibg after episode 35! I AM SO GLAD THEY FINALLY EVENTUALLY VERY VERY EVENTUALLY BROUGHT HIM BACKKKKKK AAAAAAAAAA

Anyway, Directator is just a minor role here in somebody else's episode. Its about Clodzilla, a fuckin adorable dinosaur man who wants to br a movie superstar but is super clumsy

...actually now im imagining directator filming some over the top tragedy movie about his lack of screentime

Omg they didnt even care enough to give him a summoning animation, it just skips that bit entirely and gives us unanimated clipart over a generic background

So yeah predictable ending of And Then The Sympathetic Nice Guy's Happy Ending Is Destroyed And We Watch Him Suffer For No Reason

Coincidentally enough, in a way also exactly the same as my tragic backstory headcanon for Directator! The ceiling lights exploding and destroying all the footage for his last film, as well as claiming his life...

Well, in this version they just manage to put the fire out fast enough, but the camera is still completely melted

Oh you adorable doofus!

And then surprisingly, they actually undo the predictable bad ending cliche! Directator is just like 'hey buddy dont worry i'll stay here and keep doing more reshoots until we get this done'

Like wow he's really damn nice in this episode?? A lot of stuff lining up with my headcanon of him being a failing director who died tragically, i mean he sees another newbie actor and takes 0.5 seconds to take him under his wing and start spouting motivational speeches a mile a minute!

Also Directator might make awful movies but even he knows that constant overly cruel twist endings are awful cinema. Man i would love a series thats just him sassing all the anime's problems, lol

So woo! It actually ends semi optimistic and with a promise that this dude will return again someday. Please live up to that promise, anime! I still cant believe it was ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX episodes between his last appearance and now!

This blue dinosaur from Yo-kai Watch 3 is called Clodzilla in the west:

"A massively strong dinosaur Yo-kai that is also ridiculously clumsy. The number of buildings he destroyed while trying to protect the city from bad guys is uncountable. A royal pain to have to deal with."
