Cloud wasn’t flirted with. It was kinda a rule of the world at this point, one he was very comfortable and secure in.

He was standoffish and inhuman, mako-enhanced and detached from most things going on around him. Generally people didn’t like him. Generally he didn’t like people. It worked out pretty well in his favour.

Or maybe it was that he was too dense to notice when he was being flirted with? That was... apparently a possibility. One he was suddenly being made aware of as Rosso stuck herself to his side, taking his hand in one of hers in a hold that was definitely possessive as she glared down, well up but even from her lacking height it felt like she always looking down at everyone around her, at the women in front of him.

“Take your pathetic attentions elsewhere worm,” Cloud sighed, closing his eyes as Rosso spoke. Really? And here he was thinking they were starting to get over calling everyone a worm, pest or similar descriptive, shows what he knew. “Go find someone more to more level to fraternize with. Shoo.”

“Rosso,” he said, turning to look down at her but she remained focused forward, staring down at the girl. “You’re supposed to be being nice, remember?”

“I’m ‘being nice’ for not removing her head from her fragile neck.” And there went the civilian. Another customer gone, great... just great.

Cloud flinched away from the rough touch against the spilt skin of his side, turning his face towards the one “tending” to him with a snarling grimace. “Watch it.”

“I am “watching it”,” Rosso said, voice bland and eyebrow raised in an unimpressed line in response to his grimace. “It is not my fault that you are shrinking like a fragile flower instead of a warrior.”

“Well it’s not my fault it feels like your only trying to rip it open more,” Cloud shot back at her, low and surly and completely ineffective in the face of her blank incomprehension of what he’s saying or how to apply gentleness to others instead of just recieving it.

“You are being foolish,” a roll of her eyes as she shifts closer to get back at the wound. “I made the wound as I made it, I will not do anything to make it worse, that would defeat the purpose of the fight.”

Cloud huffed a breath, she really just wasn’t geting it. Fine, better to just grit his teeth and bare it until it’s over with - 

“… You can show me what you mean when you tend to my own injuries, no? Would that be a satisfactory compromise?”

What?

He blinked at her but Rosso was uncharacteristicly avoiding looking at him, focusing on the wound she’d given him instead.

“Yeah,” he said, blinking at her long and slow. “Yeah that sounds alright.’

Day 4: Nature - Closso

“Is this really necessary?” Cloud glanced back at Rosso’s question, making sure that the woman still had her eyes covered. She hadn’t removed the strip of cloth from in front of her eyes though, humouring him despite her reservations.

“It’s a surprise,” he reminded her, squeezing her hand within his own as he continued to lead her to their destination. He’d been planning this since Reeve gave the Tsviets the all-clear and he’d hate it if the surprise was ruined. “It’s very necessary.”

“If you say so,” she breathed after a moment, falling quiet and allowing him to guide her towards the surprise. Her fingers tightened around his momentarily and she pulled herself closer to him, easily keeping pace with his strides.

“You’ll like it,” he promised, shooting her a wide smile, unseen by her covered gaze. “It’s not bad or dangerous, just a nice, new experience.”

“I already stated that I believed you.” There was a smile accompanying her words though, easing the sting of the short words a bit. “You do not need to insist.”

“I know,” he said, seeing their destination coming up and lengthening his stride. She adjusted her own stride thoughtlessly, falling into sink without comment. “We’re almost there.”

Rosso didn’t say anything in response, simply humming softly as he continued to lead her until they came to a stop. She remained quiet as Cloud released her hand to move around her and remove the blindfold, only speaking once she’d glanced around their new surroundings. “It is a fence.”

“Yup,” he agreed, grin wide from the excitement filling his own chest. He really couldn’t wait to see how this turned out, it was going to be great.

“You blindfolded me, to show me a fence?” Her question was spoken slowly, brow furrowed over her eyes. Her gaze moved between Cloud and the fence in front of them, obviously trying to piece the puzzle together. “I do not understand.”

“There’s one more thing,” he said, reaching into his pocket to pull out a small wooden whistle. He handed it to her, ignoring the raised brow she had fixed him with. “Go on, blow it.”

“Is this an erotic thing?” She asked him, cocking her head at him, causing him to almost choke on his surprised laughter.

“No! Just use the whistle!” He said once he’d gotten his breath back, gesturing her to do so despite her concerned look.

She raised the carved piece to her lips and blew into it hesitantly, sending a high, piercing sound into the air around them. It hung in the air, lingering for several seconds before fading completely, replaced by a distinctive kweking sound.

The sound of quick footsteps rapidly approached them and seemed to startle Rosso; she stiffened at the sounds, a sharp line of tension next to him and held in place only by his relaxed presence next to him. She fixed him with a sharp look, watching him intently as whatever was approaching them neared their position.

Her gaze snapped away from him immediately when Snow came into view, focusing instead on the soft-yellow bird approaching the fence. She came to a stop on the other side of the fence from them, peering at them with intelligent blue eyes.

She stretched her head towards them with a demanding noise, waiting expectantly for the attention she wanted.

Rosso stared at the bird, taking in its appearance and behaviour. Cloud felt his chest puffing with pride at the stunned expression on the other’s face, this was exactly the response he had wanted to get.

“She wants you to give her some head scratches,” he said softly, nudging her forward towards the Chocobo. “Her feathers are very soft,” he added on as she remained rooted in place, lifting her arm with his own and guiding it towards Snow’s still bent-head.

He’d definitely chosen the right bird to introduce Rosso too first; Snow was one of his older ones and was very quiet and unhurried as a result, she’d been sweet and patience when Marlene and Denzel said they’d wanted to see his birds and she was doing the exact same for Rosso now. She’d definitely earned herself a treat after this.

Rosso’s fingers twitched within his grip before reaching forward herself to sink her fingers into soft, pale-yellow feathers, scratching the bird’s scalp hesitantly when Snow uttered a pleased noise at her initial touch. She gained confidence after a few moments of listening to the bird’s content sounds, moving as close as she could to the fence separating them from the Chocobo and smiling softly at the animal.

Cloud stepped forward himself, his own hand rising to Snow’s feathers and running his fingers through them. “You can get closer if you want,” he offered, feeling Rosso’s gaze snap to him at his words. “Snow’s not going to mind as long as you keep giving her attention.”

She had jumped the fence before Cloud had finished speaking, using her new position to sink her fingers in the bird’s feathers once again, searching out the places that Snow enjoyed the most. She last about ten seconds longer than Denzel had before pressing her face into the soft feathers of Snow’s chest, nuzzling into the soft, comforting down.

Snow lifted her head from where Cloud had been scratching under her chin, turning towards Rosso and starting to groom her hair. He watched them for a few minutes, reaching for his PHS and taking numerous photos, for his eyes only, of course.

“You like her?” He asked, drawing Rosso’s attention back to him. She remained where she was, turning her head just enough to look at him. Her eye was wide and shining as she looked at him, blinking slowly as Snow continued to groom her hair while making soft kweking noises. “You wanna see the others?”

“There are others?” She blinked slowly, words muffled by soft, yellow feathers. She sounded so excited by the notion, like the notion of other Chocobos being around hadn’t even crossed her mind.

“They get lonely on their own,” he informed her, jumping the fence himself to join her next to Snow. “And I used to race them so I’ve got all my retired Chocobos here.”

“Are they all like this?”

“There are a few different colours,” he answered with a shrug, rubbing his hand over Snow’s cheek when she butted her face against his own. “Snow’s one of the softest though.”

“And,” she trailed off momentarily, lifting her face from Snow’s feathers to focus on Cloud. “I can pet them all?”

“Well, yeah,” he said, moving around Snow to tug Rosso towards the barn the rest of his Chocobo were most likely gathered around. “There might even be a few Chocochicks around, if we’re lucky.”

“‘Chocochicks’?”

“Baby Chocobos,” He answered, hearing her breath hitch in her chest at the suggestion of baby fluff birds being around. He cemented the idea of getting one for her once they’d finished their trip around Gaia, he had the idea that she’d really enjoy raising one for herself.

Homecoming

Kind of a FateSwap AU? At least that’s what I’ve been callng it?  where Cloud, recently promoted third, comes home and gets to tell everyone that he’s seeing one of the most dangerous people in the world

Day 3: “You’re dating who?” - Closso

Cloud hadn’t planned on returning to Nibelheim, he never liked the small mountain town and he was sure that the feelings were returned. But, his Ma had called him and asked him to come home so he had. He had an adjustment period after making it into SOLDIER, he had the time to spare.

He had to speed through his adjustment to his new enhanced strength and senses, which hadn’t been fun at all. He’d been immensely frustrated within a few hours but it payed off and now he was on a truck headed for Nibelheim, less than an hour from his hometown and without having broken anything during his journey.

All and all, a good start. And Nero hadn’t thought he’d be able to do it, he sure showed him.

The man he’d hitchhiked with dropped him off at the entrance to Nibelheim, leaving him to his own devices as he continued on to Rocket Town. The frost-covered town hadn’t changed at all in the two years since he’d last been there, it was still the same log-houses and ancient architect it had always been, the town remaining stagnant as the world changed around it.

Another reason he liked Midgar; the new and modern look and feel of the city was far different than what he’d grown up with, almost enough to make up for the rampant pollution and corruption within the giant city. He’d missed the fresh air though, Midgar just couldn’t compare to the brisk mountain air that Nibelheim offered.

He huffed a breath, taking a step into the village; procrastinating wasn’t going to help him.

The peaceful quiet lasted a minute, maybe two, before someone called out, recognizing him almost immediately.

“Whaddya doin’ back Cloud?” “Thought you were too good for us!?” “We don’t need people like you here!” “Go back to the city with the other faggots!”

He hadn’t missed this.

He ignored them, letting their voices wash over him as he continued the trek to his Ma’s house. He kept his head high though, not allowing them to see that their words affected him; that would only give them more ammunition to use against him, something he definitely didn’t want.

His Ma ushered him into the house once he arrived, door already open and waiting for him, most likely alerted by the voices of the other villagers. She watched him closely, concern practically radiating from her form as he moved past her into the house.

“When I said I wanted you to remember me, I meant a call every now and then.”

“I had the time,” he said, waving off her words. He sat down on the old, worn couch in their living room, she joined him a moment later, fixing him with a probing look. “Plus, there’s something I wanted to tell you, something I couldn’t really say over the phone.”

He could feel the heat in his own cheeks, rising more as his Ma continued to stare at him. She knew exactly what he was going to say; he could tell she could, and there really wasn’t much that he absolutely couldn’t tell her over the phone.

“You actually met someone?” She asked, shifting closer to him, watching him with wide, blue eyes. “Oh, I’m so happy for you! Tell me who he is!”

“Actually,” he started, dropping his gaze from hers and focusing on the empty fireplace across from them. “It’s, uh… it’s Rosso.”

Silence. And then, “you’re dating who?”

“Commander Rosso?”

“I thought you liked men?”

“I am,” he rolled his shoulder, sure he had explained this to her once before. “I like women too though. And I’m dating one, because I like her, a lot.”

“Ok then,” she breathed, he glanced at her to see her looking at her hands with a thoughtful expression. “She’s good to you though, right?”

“Of course,” he answered, turning to give her a reassuring smile. “Things have been going well between us, so far.”

“That’s good,” she responded, returning his smile easily. “As long as you’re happy, that’s what matters. Now,” she settled back against the couch, a teasing grin on her face. “Tell me about what you’ve been up to since you left, don’t think I didn’t notice those eyes of yours, mister.”

Another Pasttime

So, because one day in particular was giving me issues (it’ll be apparent when it comes along) I’ll be putting up two pieces each day; one for Closso and one for a second random pair; taken from Discord.

Day 1: Hobbies - Closso

“Ok Reeve… Yeah, I heard you… Can’t say it won’t happen again… I’ll try… Talk to you later, then.” Cloud pulled his PHS away from his ear at the dial-tone, rolling his eyes at the device before sighing softly and turning towards the other person in his apartment.

Rosso the the picture of petulance; chin resting on her bent knees as she glared at the cushion resting at the other corner. She was ignoring him, had been since he came in talking to Reeve, though he knew that she’d heard every word of their conversation.

He flipped the device shut, walking over to join her as he returned it to the pocket of his jacket. If he put it anywhere else than he’d forget about it and being unreachable while he was in charge of four extremely dangerous people, they were all doing very well in his opinion, was not the best idea.

Rosso’s eyes shifted away from him, focusing on the faint, faded pattern on the back of the couch instead, and, if his eyes weren’t deceiving him, she was pouting a bit. Which was not fair. At all.

“So,” he started, jumping right into the issue. “You put Reno into tractition.” Her brows furrowed, mouth  twisting in a scowl but she didn’t reply. “And almost did the dame to Rude. Anything you wanna say about that?”

“They do not let us spar when you are away.” The statement was angry and irritated, the former-Tsviet’s frustrations directed towards the back of the couch as she still wasn’t looking at him. “And he was attempting to provoke me.”

“I’d say he succeeded from what Reeve told me,” he mused, watching as she curled further into herself. He sighed softly, keeping his voice light as he made a suggestion. “Maybe we should find something else for you to put your energy into?”

“… You mean like Nero’s knitting thing?” She asked, incredulousness colouring her voice and finally causing her to uncurl from her position. She stared at him, crimson eyes intent and focused. “I do not think that would suit me very much.”

“No,” though he was amused by the thought of her sitting with the local knitting group, trying to figure out how it was supposed to work. She’d probably destroy something out of her frustration. “I was thinking of something a bit more physical; like sport or something.”

“I am willing to try anything you suggest,” she told him, leaning forward to slump against his side. “You have probably grown weary of receiving calls from Tuesti.”

“Don’t worry,” he shrugged, not thinking much of it. “The Turks should really know better and they’ve got Mastered Cures.”

“You are only saying that to make me feel better.”

“Of course I am.”

Most of the sport teams in Edge wouldn’t let an enhanced human play with them, so that ruled out all of those sports, and Rosso didn’t find the individual activities interesting enough to hold her attention for more than a day.

Tifa had suggested dancing, when Cloud told her what they were doing. It would keep Rosso occupied with the added bonus of keeping her fit outside of combat, dancing was also pretty close to fighting so that could only help, right?

Rosso seemed to be enjoying the lessons, or at least Reno hadn’t been back to emergency in a while, so he assumed she was. She had taken to treating it as a competition between herself and the others in her class, something elevated by the actual competitions between Rosso and her classmates.

Rosso’s hyper-competitive nature gave her a bit of an edge, mainly that she could practice for hours on end without growing discouraged at continuous failures. There was also the fact that she had quite a bit more free time and endurance than the others, that definitely helped.

Sometimes, she let him watch her practice, which he enjoyed immensely. He liked watching her move without having to worry about needing to get out of range of her attack, it was very enjoyable.

He decided that he might suggest a couples dancing lesson or two, she might enjoy those as well.

OTP QuestionsHere’s some more things for you Wings! These ones are longer and a bit more rambly as I haven’t written enough Closso stuff (but that’s gonna change!)

1: Who spends almost all their money on the other?Cloud does, he wants to show Rosso everything the surface has to offer withleads to a lot of adventures and having to explain things to her, which may ormay not force Cloud to consider his own thoughts and viewpoints on things. Rosso still has no concept of money and she prefers to expend effort on thingsfor Cloud; ‘You were tired after returning so I went out and killed somethingbefore cooking it, I hope you are pleased.’

2: Who sleeps in the other’s lap?Rosso does; she considers it an absolute show of trust, to make herself sovulnerable around someone else. She’ll sprawl out on the couch with Cloud, sohe can ensure that no danger approaches her while she’s vulnerable; a habit shehasn’t been able to lose since her DEEPGROUND days. Cloud will fall asleep on her on occasions and she feels very proud of herselfthen, that he’s extending that same show of trust to her is very gratifying,especially after a fight; they’ll be bloodied and bruised and he’ll justcollapse on her, uncaring of the fact that they both still held their weaponsin their hands. Rosso likes those moments, they’re good.

3: Who walks around the house half-naked andwho yells at them to put on some clothes?This is definitely Rosso (have you seen her outfit?) She’s so unashamed of itand doesn’t understand why Cloud keeps handing her things to change into whensomeone is planning to appear in their home. They’re warm and soft though, soshe’ll usually humour him and put the things on but they’re off the moment the guestleaves.

4: Which one tells theother not to stay up all night and which one stays up all night anyway?There are days when Rosso just won’t settle and won’t be able to sleep whichleads to a lot of coaxing on Cloud’s part to try to convince her to at leastlie down instead of whatever she’s doing, it doesn’t always work, and she’llspend some nights pacing the entire apartment tense and waiting for someone totry to attack them, often alone but occasionally Cloud will stay awake withher. The occurrences die down eventually until they only really happen after aparticularly tense or trying day.

5: Which one tries tomake food for the other but burns it all by accident and which one tells themthat it’s okay and makes them both cookies?Rosso can’t cook for the first few months out of DEEPGROUND at all, it’s aterrible mess of frustrating lessons and trying to figure out what she’s doingwrong. Cloud makes cookies for the both of them because cookies are good, heremembers making them with his Ma after a bad day and they helped so he makesthem, explaining everything he does as letting her see exactly what he’s doing.She can help him more the next time they make them.

6: Which one reads OTPprompts and says “Oh that’s us!” and which one goes “Eh, not really”?It’s more like Rosso asking “Is this supposed to be us? Are we going this ‘romance’thing wrong?” because she doesn’t under the society on the surface and on occasionsshe worries that she’s doing things wrong. Cloud tells her that relationshipsare widely different depending on the people in them and that theirrelationship was perfectly fine.

7: Which oneconstantly wears the other’s clothes?The only way to get Rosso into formal wear for the stupid parties Shinra andReeve invites them to is for Cloud to wear the dress in advance, which is a funday. She mostly resists now just to see him in the fabric, he may or may not beentirely aware of that.

8: Which one spendsall day running errands and which one says “You remembered [thing], right?”Rosso would spend the day running errands to try to do a nice thing only to becomeextremely irritated when Cloud points out that she’s forgotten something beforeleaving and possibly terrifying everyone around her as she retrieves the thing.Cloud’s very grateful to her for going out and doing all the things so he triesto calm her down and reassure her that it’s alright that she forgot one smallthing, to varying results.

9: Which one drivesthe car and which one gives them directions?Cloud drives while Rosso gives incredibly accurate directions, down to the mile.She was given extensive lessons in reading maps of all kinds while inDEEPGROUND, they won’t become lost on her watch.

10: Which one does theposing while the other one draws?Rosso definitely poses for Cloud whenever he asks her to, she’s used toextended periods of stillness and she enjoys having all his attention focusedupon her for that duration.

11: If they were aboutto rob a museum, which one does backflips through lasers and which one isstrolling behind with a bag of chips?Rosso would be doing backflips just to prove she could do it, probablybecause Cloud’s dared her to, and while it would be safer to do it in a morecautious manner, she’s going to prove that she can do it this way. Cloud’sslowly regretting the dare, but not because this is hilarious.

12: Whichone of your OTP overdoes it on the alcohol and which one makes the other stopdrinking?Neither of them really overdoes it with the alcohol; Rosso doesn’t often partakein it and Cloud over really has a few drinks with friends on occasion, so theydon’t really have that problem.

13: Which one likes tosurprise the other with a lot of small random gifts?Cloud will bring Rosso things back from his deliveries; little knick-knacks or thingspicked up from the local market to bring back, little bits of other people’sthoughts and lives imprinted on wood or stone or ceramic. She’s curious aboutthe objects and the reasons behind him and has a large list of places she wishesto go after she’s ‘allowed’ to leave Edge.

14: Which one keepsaccidentally using the other’s last name instead of their own?Rosso doesn’t have a last name and ‘Strife’ is so much easier to say than ‘theCrimson’, so she’ll use Cloud’s last name when she needs one or when she’sforced to introduce herself to people. Cloud’s friends tease him about this relentlessly.

15: Which one screams about the spider andwhich one brings the spider outside?Neither of them screams but Cloud needs to quickly take the spider outside elseRosso will kill it; spiders were very dangerous creatures down in DEEPGROUNDand many, many people died to their venom. She’s not taking any chances, shewatches Cloud very closely as he disposes of the arachnid, weary of thecreature biting him and ready to cast an Esuna on him if it does.

16: Which one gives theother their jacket?Rosso will not get a jacket for herself! And when she finally does, shedoesn’t take it with her anywhere! Cloud keeps shoving his jacket at herbecause ‘I can SEE your lips turning BLUE! Take the stupid jacket and STOP FREEZING!’

17: Whokeeps getting threatened by the other’s overprotective older sibling?The first time Rosso is threatened by one of Cloud’s friends, she’s offended onhis behalf and the fact that they think they need to intercede on his part in amatter that does not concern them. She ensures they know her stance on thewhole ‘shovel talk’ concept before leaving.

18: Who’s the first oneto admit they have feelings for the other?Cloud was, Rosso has no idea how emotions worked and didn’t have the knowledgeto realize that her lust for Cloud had grown into something a bit more. Cloudwas fully expecting to be turned down, kept to a casual sex partner, butinstead he had the trying task of explaining that particular set of emotions toRosso and somehow ended up with a kinda, maybe girlfriend? He’s not to sure fora while afterwards.

19: How good would yourOTP be at parenting?Terrible. No. Don’t give them children. Rosso would be an awful parent. Nevergive her a child. Ever.

20: Whichone types with perfect grammar and which one types using numbers as letters?Rosso has the perfect grammar typing and while Cloud does the text speak whensending messages to his friends, he doesn’t to her because she gets confused byit (so does Vincent)

21: Who gets attackedby a bully and who protects them?Systematic discrimination is something they’d both have to deal with after literallyeverything that’s ever happened, and while Rosso doesn’t notice it at all, refusingto let the opinions of others affect her but Cloud’s a bit softer than she isand while she doesn’t see the point of defending herself from someone sobeneath her, she’s on board for defending Cloud from those people, often to theextent of extreme violence.

22: Who makes the badpuns and who makes a pained smile every time the other makes a pun?Neither, Rosso doesn’t get puns and Cloud hates them just the tiniest amount.If anything, Tifa makes puns while they’re around, simultaneously trying toteach Rosso about humour and making Cloud cringe.

23: Who comes home fromwork to see that the other one bought a puppy?Rosso comes home to see that Cloud’s picked up a puppy/kitten, fully vaccinatedand with all the supplies the animal would need, as if he’s been planning thisfor weeks instead of it being a spur of the moment decision.

24: Which one gives theother a piggyback ride when they’re tired?Rosso refuses to show weakness, of any kind, if they’re coming back from aspar and she’s broken her ankle or leg during the fight then she might acceptit but beyond that, nope. Cloud will accept them shamelessly, Rosso’s verystrong and she could probably carry him for days.

25: Whichone competes in some sort of activity and which one does the overzealouscheering?Rosso’s so very competitive it’s not funny, she do her best to crush any opponentbeneath her heel. Cloud’s her very soft cheerleader, laughing at her for howintent she is to best all the children in the video game (I’m imagining Minecrafthere and Cloud insisting to her that it’s not a competitive game even as shemakes amazing structures, art pieces and murders any that come near her extensivenetwork).

26: Whotakes a selfie when the other one falls asleep on their shoulder?Cloud takes the selfie to capture the sweet image forever, because this neverhappens like this and she’s so cute and oh god Tifa help me I’m in affectionwith a maniac!

27: Whichone would give the other a makeover if they asked?If Rosso asked then Cloud would give her one, she askes him for help preparing forformal parties, because make-up is hard and she really doesn’t care to learnit.

28: Which one owns apet that the other is absolutely terrified of?Neither, I don’t think Rosso actually knows what fear is (aside from beingstrapped to a cold metal table as faceless figures in white stare down at you,sharp implements in hand. That’s fear) and Cloud loves all the animals ever.

His hands moved to one of Rosso’s heeled boots, fumbling with the buckle before managing to undo it, hesitating once it was loose until another tug at his hair spurred him into movement and he removed the boot from her foot, repeating the process with her other boot before he became distracted.

He kept his gaze focused on the fabric he still had to remove, pulling the stockings and underwear from her legs. He rested his face against her knee was she was bare to his eyes, staring up at her with mako-blue eyes.

She returned her gaze, pleased smile in place as she slid her fingers from his hair, resting her palms on the bunk as she lifted her other leg. “Go ahead,” she said, resting her delicate foot on his thigh. “You’ve earned it.”

He groaned softly, hands moving to her naked foot, raising it to his mouth, pressing his mouth to the flesh.
