The Clothesline Project

The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by people who have experienced sexual or gender-based violence.

The purpose of the project is to increase awareness, to celebrate the strength of those who have experienced harm, and to provide an avenue for them to courageously break the silence that often surrounds their experience.

This exhibit is being presented by the Nord Center, and is part of Oberlin Consent Month. It’s still open!

Modesty acknowledged this special vulnerability in women and protected it. It made women equal to men as women. Encouraged to act immodestly, a woman exposes her vulnerability and she then becomes, in fact, the weaker sex. A woman can argue that she is exactly the same as a man, she may deny having any special vulnerability, and act accordingly, but I cannot help noticing that she usually ends up exhibiting her feminine nature anyway, only this time in victimhood, not in strength. Why didn't the men at Williams College have a 'Clothesline Project'?

Goldfinches, thistle, and dresses on the line (TTBD) has made it this far. My plan was to finish it this morning. That was certainly an ambitious plan. It didn’t exactly pan out. Life tends to get in the way like that. Sometimes it’s your turn to make dinner. It is what it is.

Anyway, the foliage fill is done, and the bark fill is 90% done. Yes, there’s something I want to tweak. The dresses need shadows and texture. And the thistle blossoms are a project in and of themselves. But hey, it made it this far.

Ah, progress.

Some things (skies) may be temporary. I like some of them better than others. But the birds are done. And the clothespins are done. Next up is tree bark and leaf / foliage fills... and then on to miner details specific to each picture.
