Tape

My long overdue Undertale s/i

Tape here is actually a revamped version of my original UT self insert I made back in the day. I used them to self ship with Papyrus long before I knew selfshipping had a name.

When the new Deltarune chapters came out, it reignited my love for my favorite skeleton, Papyrus. I kinda missed him. Selfshipping with him feels like home ❤️

Papyrus is a selective sharing f/o ^^

Tho when I younger, I was definitely non sharing with him (I had beef with Mettaton for being shipped with him all the time lol)

Lore

Tape is a recluse. They live in Snowdin, but hates the cold. Tape spends most of their time indoors, but occasionally visits Waterfall when no one else is around. They like to look at how the water glows there.

Tape is a monster who’s very interested in human culture. They spend a lot of their time inside watching Mettaton’s show and on the computer. Tape somehow has access to the human world’s internet as well as the monster’s. A lot of Tape’s ventures out of their house is spent searching for old human junk. They accumulated quite a collection of all sorts of random items.

They’ve become depressed at the thought that monster kind might never leave the underground. They don’t hate humans like other monsters do, but they don’t really love them either. They like their stuff, but they feel neutrally about humans, themselves. They would still like to meet a human someday, though.

Tape doesn’t really have friends since they avoid social interactions out of fear. Though there is one monster they don’t mind talking to, Papyrus or as he calls himself: the Great Papyrus. Tape could even say they like talking to him.

When they met for the first time, Tape was on their way home from searching through human junk. They saw the skeleton working on one of his puzzles. Tape stopped to watch since they’re a curious monster, but they kept themself hidden.

They weren’t hidden for very long since they accidentally fell out of their hiding spot, trying to get a better look. Papyrus noticed them and doesn’t seem perturbed that Tape was obviously watching him from the bushes. Instead he just recalls that he’s never seen them before and asks Tale for their name.

After some hesitation, Tape responds with their name. Papyrus happily asks if they recently moved to Snowdin like him and his brother. Before Tape could respond, the skeleton them how he dreams of becoming a royal guard and mentions someone named Undyne.

Tape doesn’t mind not having the chance to answer his questions. They like listening to him talk. His uplifting spirit and hopefulness is infectious. They then ask Papyrus about his puzzles, and the skeleton beams with excitement. He then shows them every puzzle he’s ever made. Tape is happy to talk to someone else for the first time in a long while.

Tape is still a recluse after this interaction, but the two still talk whenever Tape finds him by himself somewhere. They run away if anyone else approaches. If tape were to call anyone a friend, it would be Papyrus.

Meeting the human

If Tape were canon to Undertale, they would play a very minor role. They would be a character that most players miss.

They would be found at their home in Snowdin. That is hard to find, since the entrance to the path there is hidden. It’s also a large detour from the rest of the Snowdin area.

The human would have to knock on their door several times for Tape to finally answer. They open their door just a crack. When they see that it’s a human, they light up.

Tape then notices that the human is clearly a child and visibly cold and shivering. Their home takes a while to get to so the child would be walking alone in the snow for all that time. Tape quickly invites the human inside to warm up.

When inside Tape gives them a blanket, and goes to make them a warm drink. This gives the human time to explore Tape’s home. Tape comes back with the beverage after a little bit. While the human drinks, the two talk. The conversation goes from the human asking about stuff around Tap’s home to about other monsters. When the human mentions Papyrus, Tape blushes and asks how the human knows him. Tape talks a little stiff but the human finds it nice to talk to a monster that doesn’t want to attack them.

When the drink is finished, Tape says that they would offer some human food or something helpful for the human to bring them. But unfortunately they don’t have anything or use. Tape then guides them out of the woods and back to the main part of Snowdin. The human can now go back to Tape’s house anytime. They’ll have new dialogue every time and each time they’re surprised that the player came back.

There’s a chance when Tape walks the human back they see Papyrus. He then does his whole capture the human bit. Tape responds, “Papyrus. This is a child.”

In a genocide route, the human enters Tape’s home without knocking. Tape’s no where to be found. They search the house and find a hidden tunnel entrance that leads to the basement. Along the path there’s ominous screens with messages Tape wrote. Tape is found hiding in the basement and tries to diffuse the situation. If the human still wants to fight, Tape tries their best to defeat the human using their shapeshifting abilities. It’s probably a hard battle, even though Tape doesn’t want to hurt the human. They don’t want the human hurting any other monsters. They can see the malice in their eyes.

In true pacifist, the human is friends with Tape and encourages them to meet other monsters. The human also tells them that they can both go to the surface. They also help Tape and Papyrus get together, or at least encourages Tape to talk to him more. Maybe even some flirting lessons lol

Tape meets new monsters and really starts coming out of their shell. When Tape and Papyrus eventually start dating, they’re very sweet together. They always held each other in a warm regard. Both of them being friend that the other needed. Tape likes listening to Papyrus and showers him in attention. Papyrus treats Tape with kindness and understanding. It took them a while to get together thought. They were both crushing hard but were too dense to make a move or just didn’t think the other might like them back. They eventually figured it out ^^

Tape is also my Undertale Yellow self insert. Though that is a different version of them that never meet Papyrus. Instead of living in Snowdin, they Larp as a cowboy in the desert.

It was a lot of fun trying to fit the Chikn Nuggit artstyle and design rules. I like when I have something to work with when coming up with a s/i and not having complete freedom. I get pretty overwhelmed that way

Romantic partner to Porsha Crystal

She calls them Sammy and many other pet names :>

I don’t have an exact height for them, but they’re a lot shorter than Porsha.

Some couple info:

They are very clear with their words with each other since they both kinda jump to conclusions easily.

They both love each other very much, but express it differently. Porsha is very physically affectionate and tells Sam all the time how much she likes them. Sam on the other hand, is willing to do anything for Porsha, and wants to give her anything she asks for. They also just like being around her.

They both love the attention they get from the other, even if it might be off putting to others. (They’re kinda intense and very lovely dovey)

Porsha scoops up Sam into hugs all the time, even before they were dating.

Both are ride or die for each other. Sam has a mentality of “I would die for her, I would kill for her” -but like in a lighthearted silly way

Sam has always had trouble reading emotions and expressing their own. So one of their favorite things about Porsha is how strongly she feels and clearly expresses her emotions. It’s comforting to them.

Lore:

Sam lives in a small town nearby Redshore City with their large family, which they are used to not standing out in. They’re completely fine with staying in the background and not doing much. In fact they prefer not going out much, and staying in the comfort of their own home.

Then one day a couple of their siblings hear buzz of a popular original musical being shown in Redshore City. They wouldn’t have to go far to see it, and besides Sam always had a soft spot for musicals.

Sam also has an admiration for live performances in general. They were even part of some of their own. They were in choir all throughout high school, and they were also in a couple musicals too, although they were just in the ensemble. They haven’t performed in years and has gotten a little rusty, but their love for the art form hasn’t gone away.

When the group finally go to watch said musical, Sam is blown away. They’ve only ever seen local productions and nothing at this scale before. They’re especially impressed by all the different sets. What stuck most with Sam was Porsha’s scene and her cover of Could Have Been Me.

She really personified the feeling of joy, and her passion really brings the performance to life. Porsha’s song is about not wasting another moment and living life to the fullest and without regrets. In the theater when Sam heard it, they felt like it was being sung directly to them. They were brought to tears. Like a switch went off in their brain, they went home with a new vigor for life and for living it.

Months pass and auditions are being held by Buster Moon, the man behind the musical that kinda changed Sam’s life. With the little past experience in theater they have under their belt, they give auditioning a try. For the audition itself, Sam has trouble deciding what to sing and hesitantly sings with their rusty singing voice. Once they’re done, they’re asked if they can dance, which Sam admits that they have zero dancing skills. Feeling like they completely botched that, Sam decides to just leave the theater. Before they can leave the whole building they run into a tall gray wolf.

Sam, embarrassed, apologizes walking straight into her, but the wolf doesn’t seem to mind. She introduces herself as Porsha and the two start making conversation. As the two talk, Sam realizes how comfortable they feel around Porsha and how easy it is to talk with her, which never really happens to them with someone they just met. After just a little bit of talking with her, Sam was in much better spirits and had a big doofy grin on their face.

The two go back into the theater to watch the rest of the performances, Porsha has the insider scoop that there’s some pretty interesting looking people coming up.

When the auditions come to a close and there’s time to look over his notes, Mr Moon calls everyone back to make his decision. Sam understandable doesn’t make the cut. Bummed but accepting the loss, Sam shrugs it off and makes their way out again. Porsha asks them to wait for a moment while she talks to Moon. She seems a little cross.

Porsha walks over to Moon, and convinces him to give Sam another try. Moon agrees and Porsha goes back over to Sam and tells them the good news.

Sam is confused why she’s helping them. Porsha says she’s happy to help a new friend, and she saw Sam’s audition and thought it was pretty great. Sam tells her their audition was like objectively pretty bad. Porsha reassures Sam that it wasn’t that bad really. They just need a little more practice. And for not being able to dance part, well, we all have our weak spots, even her. Practice can help with that too.

Somewhat convinced, Sam anxiously goes over to Moon with Porsha. He tells them that he is willing to give them a job if Sam’s willing to put in the work. Sam agrees. They’ll try their best.

Moon asks about Sam’s talents again to see what he’s working with. Sam can sing and is more than willing to put more practice into it. They still can’t dance unfortunately. Moon then asks if they can act, something he didn’t ask earlier. Unfortunately… they also can’t really act either :/

Moon looks disappointed, but before he can say anything Sam offers that they would be happy with just helping around. They could be a stage hand. Sam is up for doing some grunt work.

Moon then hires Sam, and they start working as a mainly a stagehand and also generally helping around where they can. Moon also has them doing backup vocals offstage when needed. Sam is actually really happy with this arrangement.

Sam starts making friends with the other cast and crew, and gets even closer with Porsha. The two talk all the time, though admittedly Porsha does most of the talking, which is fine by Sam. They love listening to her voice.

I don’t make much of an idea of how they actually get together. But it’s something along the lines of them being friends for a long time, and Sam catches feelings and is anxious that Porsha doesn’t like them back in that way, and Porsha thought they were already together for a while lol

Tape could just kiss him, but the problem is they want to be the one kissed, not the one doing the kissing. They want to be kissed by that darn skeleton real bad. It’s hard yearning for someone without lips 😔

They’ll figure it out eventually.

My Crittersona: Sam!

Wow finally made some art that’s not pony related haha

I’ve been a fan of Smiling Friends for a while, so I decided to make a sona for it!

There’s two versions of their hair, because I wasn’t sure which fit better with the critter style.

A little bit about them:

They/them

Works as a Smiling Friend

Incredibly lukewarm about their job

“It’s just a job”

Mostly works around the office

Does field work sometimes but doesn’t like it

Doesn’t know their coworkers very well

Avoids the break room when there’s more than one person in it because social anxiety

Allan and Sam are similar ages

Finds Allan very interesting and relates to him a lot

Wants to be Allan’s friend

Finds a lot of the craziness of the Smiling friends world stressful

Tired of all the world’s shenanigans

I wonder if you can tell that Allan’s my favorite character haha
