All right, so it’s leiaclarke’s birthday today and I had thought to draw her something nice because seeing her art on my dash makes me just so happy and I’d like to share the love a bit, but it seems that my scholastic responsibilities have stayed my drawing hand for now. So I just thought I’d take this opportunity to promote her webcomic Cloudschooled!
Look, look at those beautiful colors! And the unique anime-with-a-western-influence style! And those cherry blossoms! It’s absolutely the perfect thing to be reading this time of year, especially if you like:
a) adoptive inventor dads b) families fighting evil c) babies whose moods influence the weather
It’s only 29 pages in at the moment of writing (it updates weekly), but there’s already an admirable amount of worldbuilding and establishment of plot trajectory being papered across these pages. It’s got a distinctive Studio Ghibli vibe, but in the story of the adopted, superpowered child whose mother came from the sky I can’t help but see a hint of Steven Universe. So I’ll mention that, because the Steven Universe contingent will probably want to jump aboard. I hope so!
There are lots of characters in the comic already, each one crackling with potential, but the story’s main thread is already present in the relationship between awkward inventor Kenji and baby Sunrise. Oh, my heart. Read it now, because you’ll be wanting to draw fanart for it when Father’s Day comes around, you know you will.
