I’m converting the Cloudwalker AU into an original story. Wish me luck
That SSSN piece you just posted would be a perfect album cover for a SSSN boyband AU. Totally has the "We're fucking awesome, buy our music!" vibes :)
I have news for you about what the Cloudwalker AU actually is
A rly crowded and badly composed concept doodle
CWAU: Tukson?
Tukson [Concept Art pending]
IS ALIVE
Oobleck’s buddy
Part voice actor joke because of Joel and Adam BUT ALSO Tukson helps Oobleck collect lost books, records, and the like from disgraced nobles and stuff
Learned how to read thanks to him, and pays it forward at the Library by teaching others how to read if they want to learn
Was a Faunus servant for a number of years before he was rescued by Raven
Plays a more passive role in some of Raven’s raids, by counseling runaways and stuff.
If they have questions, he’s the one who helps them understand what’s messed up about their situations and why it’s not okay.
He’s way better at it than Raven, and she recognizes this
Raven also usually brings him along if they have to revisit certain places (Like they had to do for Roman’s place), or if she knows some Faunus will be hard to convince
Raven’s also the practical one who has to make Tukson realize when certain Faunus can’t be saved because they don’t want to be saved
A lot of the Faunus patrons at the library probably know their way there because of Tukson
When Adam has to lay low, he trusts Tukson as the one to take care of her
Tukson sees a lot of himself in Blake, so he’s like one of the only fatherly figures she’s ever really had
He’s the one who teaches Blake how to read, and is a large part of why she loves books
12/10 puma dad
Can you explain more about the Wandering Fight matches? Like, what exactly is it and are they all underground matches? What kind of entertainment is it suppose to be?
It’s kind of like the MMA fighting style, with the entertainment value of TV Wrestling, and the cash value of Pay Per View Boxing matches, if that makes sense???
And they’re called “wandering fighters” because they usually roam around the territories until they come across opponents during their travels to test their mettle against; but it basically grew until places created venues where people could pay to watch their favorite legends fight and stuff. Garnering a good & famous reputation is like hitting celebrity status. Winners get paid a cut of the Venue’s earnings, which can vary from place to place
There’s an important difference between the Clean and Underground Verisons:
The “Clean” version has codes and rules to the fighting, allowing for fair combat. It’s the version that most of society is familiar with, and it’s the version that Yang and her dad have participated in. And it’s regarded as “heroic” and “honorable” to most people
The Underground version is the one that involves brutally beating, and even killing the opponent. Mercury killing his dad after a match is the reason for the new type’s existence.
A lot of people think its a foolish business venture to host Venues for the matches, especially because of things like property damage, and the risk of trying to take a portion of money from people who can kick your ass- But it’s pretty lucrative, when hosting (and legal junk) is done correctly, so people who do it usually think it’s worth it.
Are the maidens also in the cloudwalker au? If so what happened to Amber? I feel really rude/intrusive in asking so many questions but you're au is amazing.
Nah, it’s not rude, thank you! :’D
Ehhhhh I’m gonna level with you all and say that the seasonal maiden powers aren’t a thing- but I do like the actual characters designed for the Maiden stuff and whatnot, so they exist (like the original four benevolent women)
Also Amber is too good of a character to not have in the AU so she’s definitely in it
Amber [Art Pending]
Is a war veteran, and comrade of Summer’s!
Grew up near the outside of the territories, and traveled/moved in when she was grown up.
Learned some of what she knows about melee combat from the Amazon society in the north (the same society Pyrrha is from)
She’s mostly proficient in arcane fighting and stuff (like Ozpin, Glynda, and Summer)
And she’s deadly with hand-to-hand combat.
Seriously, if you’re fighting her when she’s not using her staff, YOU DUN FUCKED UUUUUP
In this AU, Amber’s semblance is plantmancy, to allude to her maiden powers in canon- BUT IT’S NOT THE SAME THING BECAUSE:
Considering the fact that almost every other major plant in the AU has aura surging in it, and THOSE plants bend to the willpower of NORMAL people??? She is SUPER POWERED
So basically the excess Aura that comes from trees in the environment around her surges through her body and OUT OF HER FISTS
Her staff actually served as a limiter for her semblance and aura because despite how well trained she is, it’s still hard to control without a medium to put the excess energy into, and feed back to the environment around her
Like I said though, not ALL trees have Aura flowing through them, but the territories have enough Aura Trees that it’s literally a part of their way of life and infrastructure
She was left seriously maimed after fighting Cinder alongside Summer, and probably wouldn’t be alive if Summer hadn’t saved her life.
Cinder did the smart thing, and lured Amber to the wasteland to kick her ass (the same wasteland she found Emerald in decades later)
Summer saved Amber, at the expense of her left eye, and Amber feels eternally indebted to her
She’s still alive though and has near-master knowledge about the inner workings of Aura Trees, and how they work, because of how deeply her semblance connected her with them.
When she meets Pyrrha, she instantly recognizes her attire, and chats it up with her
Which is funny because you have the girl who is completely out of her element, and the girl who is oversaturated in her element
Well since you said something I gotta ask. Cloudwalker STRQ?
thisarenotarealblog said:"And the reason this superstition exists is because of Raven Branwen, but I’ll get to that if someone asks me to write up her role in the AU :p" WELL SHIT YOU CAN'T JUST THROW A HOOK LIKE THAT OUT THERE AND EXPECT NO ONE TO TAKE THE BAIT, lets hear about raven!
neonstreetstyle said:Since you piqued my curiosity: Raven Branwen's role in the Cloudwalker AU?
U GOT IT (Qrow is in another ask, with Ozpin’s crew already)
Summer [Concept Art Pending]
First and foremost: SHE’S ALIVE
Knows some things about using arcane techniques to fight with her weapon, from Ozpin himself which is nuts
Ozpin also taught Qrow some things about fighting, but Qrow doesn’t have the level of arcane proficiency that Summer does
A really legendary veteran of the Feudal Revolution by reputation- but no one in the local community knows that she’s the fighter that legend references
Amber also has a similar reputation, except people know that its her
Summer prefers being unknown to the masses because she’s REALLY SHY about praise to that degree (which is where Ruby gets it from)
Lost her left eye fighting Cinder
because Cinder knew that Summer’s eyes were a major source of her power
Summer isn’t as powerful as she used to be as a result, but she’s still a very skilled and talented fighter
Also as a result, she obvs isn’t perceptive of things on her left side, and constantly bumps into things or knocks things over
Qrow, Taiyang, and Raven will embarrass her to Ruby and Yang by telling super cool stories about her
They will also purposely mess up facts about said stories so that Summer will correct them and own up to how much of a badass she really is
“I heard that Summer has an 8-pack, that Summer is shredded”“IT’S ONLY A 6-PACK, TAI”
Super mom of the house, best chef
Not that the rest of STRQ can’t cook, but everyone loves her cooking the most
Tai is the 2nd best chef, but his food is kinda spicy
Unfortunately, her daughters are DISASTERS when it comes to cooking, bless their hearts- but they are banned from the kitchen without her supervision
Is always super happy to see Ruby bond so well with Qrow over their craft because Summer knows how much of a HUGE GRUMP Qrow used to be back in the day
Taiyang [Concept Art Pending]
Also a veteran of the Feudal Revolution- has seen some shit
Has PTSD, and dissociates sometimes, but his family’s there to help him through his really rough phases
Was actually really hesitant of getting involved in the war, and very vocal about it, until he learned why Summer and Qrow were fighting for the cause
It was really surprising that he and Qrow felt the same way about Nobles making their problems everyone else’s business, so he finally decided to lend his skills
He and Qrow bicker a lot, but they’re still comrades and part of the same family, so they put their differences aside a lot more
Former Wandering Fighter, ever since he was a teenager, under the title “Supreme Sun Dragon”
has the most consecutive wins on record as a fighter
Retired when he had Yang
Taught Yang how to fight, and Yang is out and about now, trying to beat her dad’s record as the wandering fighter
Qrow and Raven thought that Taiyang’s profession was really cheesy and overrated
But Yang’s style of fighting is what convinced them to see some matches again, and the new generation is much less corny and more fun to watch
Tai is convinced that Qrow and Raven are right about how corny his era of fighting was and is full of regret
Every once in a while, some retired fighters or fans recognize Tai (or his tattoo) and call him by his title, but he’s like “SUN DRAGON WHO??? I DON’T KNOW WHO THAT IS, SORRY, BYE”
Taiyang actually originally grew up in the same geographical area that Sun is from, but he settled down in Summer’s community
Mostly goes to the library to pay his respects, like Qrow, but also likes talking to Oobleck and Port as buds
Raven [Concept Art Pending]
BIRB MOM IS IN THE PICTURE
Not a woodsmith to the same degree that Qrow is, but she does know how to refine weapons
And she knows more than her brother does about the attuned relationship between a fighter and their weapon
Veteran of the Feudal Revolution with MANY SCARS to prove it
Doesn’t drink like Qrow does, but for a long time, her coping mechanism after the war was her risky behavior concerning fighting (which is also kind of where Yang gets it from)
Raven wised up WAY more after having Yang, for her sake
but she still falls back into her old ways sometimes
Very soon after the War, Raven learned of various Faunus being blamed, targeted, and mistreated by former and/or disgraced Nobles, so she decided to take up another “hobby” and put a stop to it
Raven’s basically batman a vigilante who does raids on Former Nobles, Rich Criminals, and other places, and rescues Faunus from terrible situations, and helps them find work and shelter and stuff
Raven leaves cryptic messages behind for people to never own or treat Faunus like shit
It eventually becomes a superstion that if you mistreat or try to own a Faunus, a curse will befall you and everyone arounds you
Raven Branwen is basically the reason that Faunus racism is practically non-existent in all the land
If she ever hears a rumor about how badly someone is being treated, and nothing’s ever done about it, she usually sees to snuffing out the problem
She teaches a lot of the Faunus that she saves how to fight, and how to maximize the use of their weapons
After rescuing him, she becomes Adam’s teacher and teaches him how to fight
And in turn, Adam passes what he knows down to Blake
Because she’s batman off doing her thing a lot, she’s not really around the house like the rest of her family is, but she still makes the effort to visit her daughters and spend quality time with them
Yang’s the light of her life, but still has an awkward relationship with her
Not because of her absence, but because she feels like Yang’s too good to be her daughter
Raven’s really bad about talking about her feelings and stuff, just like her brother
Also like her brother, Raven used to be a major grump, probably moreso than him. Summer knows this, and she’s really happy that she, Tai and their daughters have made Raven less of a grump
How about ABRN, Roman, and Adam in Cloudwalker AU?
Adam [Concept Art pending]
Former servant of Roman’s, along with Blake
Blake and Adam actually grew up on the streets together from a very young age.
They don’t know what happened to their parents or families
They also didn’t know or learn any trade skills so they had a hard time finding work and staying fed
Adam is fiercely protective of Blake like an older brother, even though they’re not related.
Adam would be the one to occasionally steal food and resources, etc, and endure the consequences that followed for Blake’s sake
Roman is the one who offered them the chance to work for him, in exchange for food and shelter, and such
Adam didn’t like the idea of it, but Blake insisted that they accept because she was tired of seeing Adam suffer for her sake
Man, they had no idea what they were getting into, because Roman is a shrewd crime boss and business dealer
Adam knew something wasn’t all right with “working for him” especially since they weren’t getting paid
And Adam was right because Roman was always being obnoxious and entitled to be “repaid” for his generosity to him and Blake
Adam tells Blake that they need to escape, but Blake argues with him about where they’d go, and what they’d do once they were out on the street again
Roman’s place is raided by Raven, and Adam escapes with her, but Blake doesn’t go with him. Not the first time.
Raven takes Adam under her wing (HEH) gives him a weapon, and teaches him how to fight.
Adam is the one who insists that they need to go back for Blake and get her out if there
Raven tells him that if he’s going to do it, he needs to be absolutely sure that Blake will actually be willing to go this time, because it’s always risky to raid someone’s house twice, and Raven would rather not risk casualties for an unwilling escapee.
Thankfully the second time, it works, when Tukson helps him out
Adam has to lay low, since he doesn’t exactly have the best reputation at the moment, and he and Blake have to part ways for a while, sure they’ll meet again (which they do! very often, usually by coincidence)
Adam becomes a permanent member of Raven’s efforts to help mistreated Faunus in the four territories
And because of working so closely with her, Adam has met each of her family members at least once
Is not a horrific jerk like he was made to be in canon, and that is the most important thing to me about Cloudwalker Adam
Roman [Concept Art pending (I thought I did a sketch of him but I guess not)](tw for implications of mental/emotional abuse and manipulation, and stalking, I think)
Crime Boss and Business Dealer, always doing shady shit, like interrogations, organized thefts, black market trading, being a loan shark, and other stuff
He and Neo are very successful at it, seeing that they’re super rich, can hire private security, and afford a giant mansion in an obscue and secluded area
A huge ham and major douche, but still a professional at what he does
The one who swindles people, but never gets swindled
#1 Slimeball™ in all the region
Is immensely creepy and controlling towards Adam and Blake for a number of years
Especially Blake, because she “amuses” him
Gets dragged along to watching Wandering Fight matches (usually the underground ones with murder) by Neo.
He didn’t know there was an underground version, but Neo “tells” him that they weren’t really a thing until recently (thanks to Mercury)
He likes the underground ones and watches them with her more often
Is one of the few people who is especially terrible and creepy towards Faunus, for whatever reason
Does numerous business deals with Cinder
has never said “no” to any of them, because she either:
makes him an offer he can’t refuse, or
threatens him in a way he can’t get out if.
is one of the only people he’s ever dealt with who he and Neo were on edge around
Gross owner of the “Hello, Darling~!” quote instead of Adam, and is the one who’s irate when Blake decides to leave
Tracks her down and greets her in certain situations, just to see the fear in her eyes, because he relishes in it
Have I mentioned Roman’s supposed to be the creepy one instead of Adam in this AU?
Can u tell I’m really bitter about canon yet, or what
ABRN [Concept Art pending]
Run a plant sanctuary together, not that far east of the Library, where they grow normal plants for people to eat and use, and whatnot
Once in a while, they take a wagon of some of their goods with them to sell in various places who may need things like herbs and spices and stuff
Sage is a familiar customer, and buys herbs from them for the medicinal remedies he makes
and Yatsuhashi is a regular, when he buys spices for cooking, and tea leaves- and coffee for Coco :p
Ozpin and Glynda buy their coffee and cocoa from there as well
Because of their business’s placement, lots of customers pass through the library when going to buy their stuff
Arslan helps keep the place running like a well oiled machine
Purchases lots of Dust Vines from Flynt rather than the Schnee caravan, mostly to preserve the necessary climate control for their goods
When Weiss is huffy about it, Arslan just explains that the quality of Flynt’s stuff is what she needs. Nothing personal
Flynt never lets Weiss live it down
Arslan’s also a Wandering Fighter who puts some of her winnings from her matches into the Sanctuary
Reese makes deliveries and stuff, and is kinda like the mascot for the sanctuary because of her hair color, lol
Nadir does half of the tending to the plants and talking to them and stuff. Also usually goes with Reese for local deliveries.
Bolin does the other half, like watering them on schedule and such, and does more deliveries outside of their locale with Arslan
Usually goes with Arslan when she travels for her matches and stuff
Business is especially good at matches, and he makes the most of it
Reese drags Nadir with her in the library so she can read up on how to make personal transportation a thing
she develops her hoverboard with help from scientific notes from Neptune on the biology of Aura Trees and Dust Vines and stuff
(Oobleck copies down Neptune’s research and stuff to add to the library as public knowledge)
She also frequents Flynt’s shop to buy resins for making it as well.
