Powers are angels that study under the Judge of Hell, Gabriel, and they pick up a Lot of speech mannerisms from him as well as being extremely and earnestly loyal to him and the way he does things. however, their light weapon adeptness is less than Gabriel's and they have to call out the name of the weapons to summon it ("greatsword!") which is definitely DQCore... I was going to maybe give this to Sinclair, but since the whole thing about Gabriel is arbitrarily judging what is right and wrong based on his duties prior to The Blue Thing, and those beliefs influencing the Powers. uh. Greater Angel Don Quixote.

Terminals are machines that don't fight on their own. there is at least one per level, and they're all sentient + in a network . they share videos of machines, like V1, killing shit. the more stylish, the more points they give V1 to buy more weapons... it's very Xianren. I suppose Ryōshū could also Maybe get a Terminal thing but a stationary/non-acting technical ally that does nothing but watch the gore and be expected to share it is. Yknow.
Geryon Hong Lu/Sinclair (EGO specifically)
It's a flying dragon with shared consciousnesses (an attempt at creating a being controlled by multiple consciousnesses, unfit body for fighting but is theorized to fight so well despite that because it desires to free sinners of their suffering. multiple consciousnesses = ACS (Clair, S(F))/XR (HL)) and. Despite the fact that its fight looks Really Unfun i think it's cool

ohhhhh where do i even start for this. i just loved how well the symbolism in hong lu's canto was done i think the kite being on the bus made me scream. i also think that the inner monologue for her canto struck me the hardest out of any of them. i still think of it and it makes me feel deeply sorrowful

i love how in almost every hong lu thing i've read, there's, at one point or another, just. hong lu being an irritant on purpose . enrichment. JLMFR

i've complained about the hong lu pedophile jokes before, i think... that's pretty much it. well. i don't like shipping them with baochai but i don't despise that, it just isn't something i'm comfortable with. do whatever you want forever
not something i despise, but the grandma bathtime tian tian cutscene joke has never been funny to me . not because i'm saying you shouldn't joke about it (i think it's quite fun) but because i take 1000 psychic damage just thinking about the cutscene. and if i could i would scream about it. look how hard she can cry!

i have a lot, but my most recent one are post-viii reactions to pain. e doesn't really know what to say so it's just like. "wow! that hurt :O" or some form of sad dog noise (<-both projection)
in some relation to that, pre-viii hong lu often gets the (unvoiced) urge to jump at physical touch. it's rare that pi does, but it's. i don't know how to word this. just forgets that she exists alongside everyone else and can Feel Sensations.

i still think about flower-burying bullet (fell bullet x tears of the tarnished blood) occasionally but with erin having fell bullet it becomes one limbillion times more relevant.
in erin's case, fell bullet mostly represents the willingness to take what he wants, to reach his goals even if someone he cares for gets hurt, as well as embodying the reason why he has Bridgeburner as one of his words. just. feeling like every relationship he has will be ruined by himself, so he may as well embrace that the one who burns the bridge is all he'll ever be. very self-destructive i fear
this is the city, and he must climb its ladder. one day, he'll have to use someone he loves as a ladder rung to climb up the ladder, but did he even have anyone like that? at first, he fully blended in with the city in hopes that he could change things, following the words of someone who truly believed that the status quo could be altered, but now the meaning of climbing the ladder has completely changed.
it's not done out of protection or virtue, it's simply done because he has to, and frankly, he wants to. who do these people think they are, still carrying the burden of love in the city? they're just cogs, and he'll show them that realization that he thinks he has already accepted.
but that isn't true. remind him of his beloved, his humanity, and he'll fall apart. he hates to see what he has become, what they'd think of him
what he has become, he tries to justify. when you want to reach the top, you will inevitably be faced with competition, people in your way. enemies. but in the end it's perpetuating the hurt of being punished for being a human and not a cog because of equal parts hurt and pleasure that people have to suffer as he did

how does this relate to tears of the tarnished blood? well. i already talked a little bit about hong lu's iteration, for the most part. associating the kindness and love in its heart and. emotions in general really. with filth that must be exsanguinated in order to ascend to the heavens.
tarnished blood hong lu has known love and remembers love. it believes that the flower-burying wedge is a deserved punishment for that

COUFHS. coughs. Ok. ok in all seriousness. a lot of it is because I relate to him as a character (just the trio of Sinners who were tools for their parental figures in general, but Hong Lu resonated the most) in terms of the family issues and. the repression. oh, and the tendency to act naive and tease people. that one scene in Hell's Chicken about the potatoes and Heathcliff still makes me laugh. What are you doing with that meat tenderizer?
I especially like how he did try to protect people and it did work for one (Daiyu... and he could never tell her why because of Xiren) but in the process he had to push her away as well
the part where she offers Xichun his life makes me sooo sick. Hong Lu clearly does not want to live at that point and to me there's something so self-destructive about it beyond just wanting to die. I remember something about how Hong Lu spoke of the fact that despite Xichun's innocence as a child, she would grow up to be like every child in Daguanyuan—out for his blood, antsy, competitive, trust no one. he feared it yet inevitably was the one to really dig that in . and it just fucks ne up. his Canto in general is absolutely my favorite (Canto 4 is pretty close too but the pacing is the one thing that kind of put me off of it) I just. gh. I love that cast of characters.
