No more “Clovis first” hypothesis! Make way for “kelp highway hypothesis”!
The fall of Clovis First is a great example of how empirical evidence can completely overturn dogma within a scientific field. It’s an example of science doing what it’s supposed to.
But I do remember an awkward period in the early aughts where you’d read pop science articles that would say things like “this New World archaeology site has been securely dated and we know that people inhabited it thousands of years before Clovis. Does that mean that the Clovis people weren’t the first in the Americas? It’s controversial”
A lack of resources may have made the route once considered likely impossible.
How did the First People Get to the Americas? No One Knows for Sure.
Cool, though I subscribe to multiple migration theory.
