Dmitri’s head is spinning, and he’s not sure if it’s the last echoes of temporary madness leaving him or that he’s still trying to wrap his head around everything that’s happened since they woke up; likely it’s a bit of both. Monty and Jasper: dead and leaving behind a sun. The new planet they found: wildly dangerous and already inhabited, and lives lost on both sides barely minutes after their arrival. It’s nearly more than he can take, but here in this makeshift quarantine zone they’ve all been shoved into there’s, ironically, the opportunity to finally breathe, something he doesn’t feel he’s had since he and the rest of Spacekru made it back to Earth.
As he sits trying to process things, he catches a glimpse of Clarke standing nearby, and decides it’d likely do the both of them some good to use this brief respite to finally talk and catch up. Even though they were reunited back on Earth, there hadn’t been much time for idle chit chat with the way things had been going between the valley, and the bunker, and Diyoza, and everything else keeping them moving. This is their chance, and with their luck it’s likely the last one they’ll have for a while yet even if things go smoothly. He hops out his seat and bounds over to her, soft smile on his face as he reaches for her hand to give gently tug and get her attention.
He heads for the stairs, glad she doesn’t protest as he leads her up towards the roof of the building. When they reach the top and encounter a guard, Dmtiri mutters a small curse under his breath as he’s hoping for a little privacy.
‘You all are meant to remain inside.’
“Yea, but can’t we just stick around out here for just a little bit? Look, I’ll level with you: I could just use a moment of fresh air and, though this might sound odd, it’s actually been a while since I’ve had a chance to talk to my friend here and I’d like to take one. I promise we won’t be any trouble, and it’s not like we tried to leave the premises. It’s just the roof, so do you think we could have a little time?”
The guard mulls it over for a moment, Dmtri counts himself lucky that they managed to get someone nice as the guard nods and heads towards the door, giving them their space however briefly. Once it’s just them, Dmitri finds a seat and flops down into it as he looks over at Clarke, smile returning.
