De robuuste esthetiek van het brutalisme was het afgelopen decennium aardig in zwang, wat onder meer te zien is in de vele betonnen villa’s die nog steeds overal ter wereld gebouwd worden. Nu zijn we ook tot de realisatie gekomen dat veel gebruik van beton niet bevorderlijk voor een duurzame toekomst. Zo veel mogelijk met biologische en hernieuwbare materialen bouwen is het nieuwe devies. Estudio MMX heeft beide trends gecombineerd bij Casa CBC in het Mexiaanse Chapultepec. Een villa met een neo-brutalistische esthetiek, maar constructief gebouwd met CLT hout. Het aardige bij dit ontwerp is dat het kruislaaghout overeenkomt met de afdruk van de bekisting die je vaak in brutalistische architectuur terug vind. Maar ook het regelmatig patroon van bevestigingen doet denken aan het patroon van afstandhouders van de bekisting in het beton bij de prefabbeton-architectuur van Tadao Ando. Zou het Mexicaanse weer het hout daar ook doen vergrijzen? Dan is er helemaal weinig visueel onderscheid meer te maken met zijn betonnen evenknieën.
