it might be me & my messiah complex but I do believe that if you grew up with "Rebelde way" & "Smallville" as your most influential media in your early teens, you might hold different opinions from your peers from a much earlier age. ex: Marizza's freedom, and Sonia's support, Clark's pureness and his parents' guidance, how different values are treated and displayed on each of these productions, might just set you up with different expectation on the world, and on your self.

I mean...I wouldn't put Smallville in the list of "most influential" media in my early teens but I agree with you overall.

I think people that grew up with Cris Morena's content, from Chiquititas to Rebelde Way to Floricienta, see the world differently. It's impossible not to. I will go to my grave dying on the hill that Cris Morena singlehandedly formed the best generation of people just with her shows. A woman did that. And she's so fucking pivotal to me that I am so passionate about what I do today because of how I loved her content. My name got shortened to what it is because of her and then it just stuck. I am who I am largely due to Cris's shows so...yeah...I wholeheartedly am on the same page as you.

It's so weird when you post about Rebelde way, because on 2017 Felipe used to work in the same radio station as me, and is weird seeing people talk in English about people I know. I don't know how to explain it, but is like I sometimes forget the dude was famous and had filled stadiums.

Bahahah he hasn’t aged well but I still love him. The fact that he has stayed best friends with Cami even though she literally fucked off to the woods never to be seen again and defends her privacy like he does justifies the fact that he was my boo growing up lol. I worked at the network where all of Cris’s shows aired in my country and we had exclusive rights to them when they came to the island for concerts and performances so I got to meet them more than once and he was always the best. He’s such a solid dude.

Yesterday was sort of a heavy and shitty day so I said fuck it and watched some episodes last night before going to bed seeing as it was the 18th anniversary of the premiere.

Speaking of filled stadiums........just throwing it out there that there’s full Erreway concerts on YouTube and I may or may not have watched many of them more than once. Just gonna...in case anyone...you know...

There’s even the full hour and a half theater adaptation of Rebelde Way that Cris did to say farewell to the show I think it was??? I can’t exactly remember where it the timeline of the show this falls but I think it was definitely at the end. Anyway...YouTube is honestly a gold mine if you love RW:

Speaking of the genius that is Cris Morena...did you see the short documentary she uploaded to her IG celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first season of Chiquititas airing less than two weeks ago? It’s stitched together from an old interview with Romina and IT FUCKED ME UPPPPPP. She’s been dead for ten years now and my brain literally still can’t handle it. It’s like if you told any kid from our generation that Barney or Mickey died. They’d be like “Nope. That doesn’t sound right. Incorrect. Fake News.”. Anyway...it’s like 15 minutes or something and it’s on Cris’s IG TV. Get ready to be wrecked because that’s going to be a time capsule to your childhood while Romina talks to you like she was still alive and jklsdlhfgljksdfhgljksdfg I had to take a second after I finished it lol.

Since we’re on Chiquititas, I’ll leave you with this 20 year old banger that was SURELY the precursor to Rebelde Way because now that I thought about the documentary it’s stuck in my head again lol

omg i grew up watching Cris Morena's novelas. Like chiquititas was a HUGE part of my childhood and then Rebelde Way and so on. it was huge in all over latin america, like i'm from Argentina and my cousins in Brazil were watching it and some friends in Chile... it bounded us lmao. We own Cris Morena a big thanks for those novelas tbh.

Would I call them “novelas”? I certainly wouldn’t. I guess we might not have a better word for it, but I don’t think they’re novelas in the way that Televisa makes novelas. Chiquititas and Rebelde Way were my childhood. But there were also so many other things from other countries that shaped myself and the rest of my generation in Latin America. It’s a bummer to see American kids or kids in general these days miss out on that. I know I’m better off for having watched those shows and I’m certain they would be too. 

Cris’s shows were global exports. They weren’t limited to just Argentina. They spread all over every single spanish speaking country. They were huge in the middle east and Europe. Parts of Asia as well. It’s how you know that the topics she tackled on her shows were common experiences for young adults. It’s why they still resonate with people who got to watch them to this day. I genuinely consider Cris to be one of the most influential people in Latin America in the Late 90s-2000s because her content literally shaped my generation and I’m so thankful to her for it.

You're giving so many feels talking about Chiquititas and Rebelde Way... SPECIALLY Rebelde Way like it was something a looked for... specially when I was struggling with my parents divorce and so much shit that was going on that time. Like I have good memories from that time BECAUSE of rebelde way and all the friends I made and fun I had because of it... it was a great escape and I'm full of nostalgia now. Thanks! lmao

I’m watching the pilot because I found it for that anon and the trip down memory lane is SO WILD. Like...tell me if this shit doesn’t make you feel 15 again? 

Cris’s work helped a lot of people get through a lot of things, me included. It’s the power of her writing and how real and raw everything was even though it was geared for teens/kids. It’s always proven to me that content for younger people doesn’t dumb content.

Can you share some of the content for children from those countries you mentioned? I babysit a Latin kid on weekends but she doesn't really like cartoons or watch kid friendly shows bc her parents let her sit through the telenovelas so I'm always trying to find some age appropriate content that she might like and that we can watch together and talk about it…

Look into Cris Morena’s stuff. I don’t know if you can find full episodes of Chiquititas or Floricienta online, but you can certainly find a lot of the Rebelde Way episodes on YouTube. Depending on how old she is, Chiquititas might be better. Rebelde Way is more like 13-14 and over. Chiquititas is definitely more geared towards younger children.

There’s good content for children/teens that isn’t cartoons. That is rooted in reality and deals with lessons they should learn without infantilizing them. They’re still “real” without being “adult”. It’s one of the things I’m most grateful about growing up in Latin America. We have a lot of that. I’m pretty sure in Europe as well. America is the only place in the world where “content for children”= dumb cartoons. That is damaging the rest of the world in terms of the content being created and it’s irritating to watch. 

I grew up watching the content that showrunners/creatives like Argentinian mastermind Cris Morena made. It was stuff that was well written, acted, and directed but was also age appropriate. Same with content coming out of Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia. They were dramas. They dealt with very real societal problems but in a way that a child could digest. A lot of them were also global phenomenons that were watched across the world. Things like that can be successful. It’s proven. You just have to fund them.

The first two are so easy. Don’t even need to think about them. Hailee and Rebelde Way. With Chuck it really depends what the other show is and given that it’s going to vary depending the show that means the possibilities are endless lol.
