Why did you pick Blue Diamond for the momswap rather then another Diamond?
Because we were inspired by @cnv99′s Blue Steven photo edit XD
Okay, but digging in a little deeper…
- We know practically nothing about White Diamond, beyond the fact that she exists, probably. This would’ve made figuring out why she and Greg fell in love, Steven’s power-set, and his personality, a bit of a shot in the dark.
- Yellow Diamond, by contrast, we have a super firm personality and motivations for. However, that personality currently seems incompatible with empathizing with humans enough to have a kid. (Incidentally, we’d also seen two other Yellow Momswaps before this point, and wanted to do something different.)
- Pink Diamond, based on what little we know about her, would’ve been a good option. But in canon, she died 5000 years ago. Allowing her to live long enough to have had a kid would create such a fundamentally different universe, I’m not sure where we would take it. (For example, what happened to the Crystal Gems? Were they all shattered/captured/corrupted? If not, what form is the rebellion still in? Has Earth been reduced to a lifeless husk? Most likely. Which means that Pink would’ve fallen in love with a zooman!Greg, which brings up so many consent issues, and… yeah. Doable and possibly quite interesting, but not the story we felt like telling.)
In comparison, we know that Blue likes visiting Earth, and she at least has the capacity to start understanding and reaching out to humans. She seemed like a natural choice.
