I rolled Silumgar, the Drifting Death for the random commander challenge.
At first I wasn’t sure what to make of this other than “well, it certainly hoses token decks.” True to his title, when Silumgar is around, creatures will die (albeit mostly small ones), so Morbid and other death triggers are quite good. A fair amount of other dragons (and Changelings) are solid as well to further accumulate the killing power.
But then I thought, what if I don’t want to ruin the token player’s day by blowing out most of their board? What if there is no token player? What if people just aren’t playing small creatures- Commander is battlecruiser Magic, after all. And then it hit me.
What if my opponents are forced to watch their 1/1s die because they don’t have a choice if they have them or not, because I keep giving 1/1s to them?
You want some goblins, some squirrels, some myr? I’m not using them. Aren’t I nice?
Silumgar’s Generosity
Dear Yeen,
It’s not without apprehensions that I decided to take up your random commander challenge. Indeed, this deck was going to be my second Commander deck and the first I made from scratch. More generally, it was going to be one of my first decks.
So, you can imagine I was, at first, a bit disappointed to roll Sir Shandlar of Eberyn as my Commander. But since I really like the first legendary creatures, I decided to go with it.
It seemed like a lot of Sir Shandlar of Eberyn Commander decks were Knight tribal decks. But I wanted to take my creation in a different, more unusual direction for this Commander. Since I was already planning to make a Green/White Enchantress deck and had some ideas for one, I ended making it enchantment-centric.
So, how does this deck wins? You can win by enchanting your creatures with powerful Auras, by overcoming your opponents with an arbitrarily large number of Squirrel tokens using Earthcraft and Squirrel Nest or by using Mana Reflection, Basalt Monolith and Helix Pinnacle together.
Because this deck was not a “real” one, I take the liberty to use horribly expensive cards like Savannah or Serra’s Sanctum. I hope you don’t mind.
I made the all thing in one evening. It’s the first time I ever made a deck that fast, but I was really inspired and afraid to miss the submission deadline. Therefore, the result is not really good, but I love it and since it’s my first totally personal Commander deck I hope you will not take offense.
Wishing you an Happy New Year.

It felt a little weird to put together because I prefer to build a deck using real cards rather than put together a list online. Hopefuly it makes sense!
