Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog - Coachnik (Review & Screenshots)
Today we have an episode about SPURTS*! Well, sort of...
The story starts off with Tails feeling down because he wants to help Sonic fight Scratch and Grounder more often. I can understand why Sonic would want to do all the fighting, as Tails is way younger than he is, but this little 4 year old kid is feeling left out, so Sonic agrees to let him help. Unfortunately for Tails, Scratch and Grounders next attempt at killing Sonic goes so badly for them that Sonic and Tails just run on by without even having to stop and fight as Scratch and Grounder kick their own asses. This bums out Tails even further, and Sonic apologizes, reassuring him that he'll still be able to help more in the future.
Coachnik is an intimating figure, but is way more supportive of Scratch and Grounder and wants to help them up their game!
This is a nice scenic overview of where the episode takes place, as you can see both the abandoned stadium and Robotnik’s fortress in the distance. Those wacky twisty roads remind of the weird highways in Texas...
As Scratch and Grounder return home, in need of serious repair, Robotnik decides he's going to make a new robot to teach them to better fighters - Coachnik. Coachnik is actually much kinder and more supportive to the two badniks than Robotnik, but they're still intimidated by him because he wants to get them training to be better fighters. He takes the two to a nearby abandoned sports stadium to work on their training. Scratch and Grounder, probably preferring to just goof off, aren't enjoying themselves, and Scratch even urges Coconuts to avoid trying to involve himself, lest he be miserable too. Tails gets word of the fact that the badniks have been spotted at this location, so he brings Sonic with him to check it out. The badniks end up spotting the two, but fail to catch them, getting beaten all up again.
Scratch is the Swan Queen!
Robotnik is feeling impatient and gives up on supporting Coachniks training, opting instead to build a powerful bomb that will destroy everything in a 5 mile radius! While Robotnik is busy being an asshole, Coachnik is continuing to be supportive of the badniks and trying his best to help them train. Sonic continues to tease and prank the bots as Robotnik makes his way back to the stadium, and hides his new bomb inside of poor Grounders head. Tails, who'd been spying at the time, tells Sonic that Robotnik hid something in Grounders head, but he wasn't sure what.
Robotnik looks really comfy with his little blanket and viewing chair.
When Robotnik returns to his base, we see that he's got a remote activator for the bomb's timer, and plans to just blow up the whole stadium with both his robots and the freedom fighters inside! What a jerk!
Sonic and Tails arrive and wrestle with the badniks, eventually getting the bomb out of Grounders head, and for a while the kids and the badniks keep tossing the bomb back and forth in a panic, until Coachniks steps in and kicks it all the way to Robotnik fortress. Good thing the bomb is impact resistant, and apparently Coachnik has one of hell of a kick, too!
Robotnik barely escapes as his fortress is blown to smitheroons*, and he shows up in the stadium where he spitefully smashes poor Coachnik into pieces - but thankfully, Coachnik hasn't actually died, and his foot gets up to kick Robotnik in the butt and chase him away. get him, Coach! Hopefully the poor guy will be able to put himself back together...
In the sonic says segment, Sonic teaches Tails about the importance of stretching before doing SPURTS. Scratch doesn't stretch, so he pulls a muscle in his leg...wait, Scratch has muscles?! I'm starting to wonder if he isn't so much a robot as he is a cyborg of some sort.
This was a simple, but fun episode. I liked the Coachnik character because he was actually way nicer to Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts than Robotnik ever was. It was good to see him getting back at Robotnik for trying to kill him, too, that jerk!
