U.S. News Ranks UT Austin among Nation’s Best Universities
The University of Texas at Austin is No. 16 among the nation’s public universities and No. 52 overall in the 2016 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings.
U.S. News evaluates 280 institutions on weighted indicators of academic quality such as freshman retention and graduation rates, assessment by peers and counselors, and the strength of the faculty. Each year, U.S. News also ranks undergraduate business and engineering programs using surveys from deans and senior faculty members at accredited programs.
UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business is touted as the No. 7 best program (No. 4 among public universities) and the Cockrell School of Engineering ranks as the No. 11 best program (No. 6 among publics). Additionally, the McCombs School ranks No. 1 for accounting and No. 5 for both management information systems and marketing, and the Cockrell School ranks as No. 4 for chemical engineering and No. 5 for environmental/environmental health.
In U.S. News’ specialty rankings, UT Austin is featured as a top pick among high school counselors (No. 9 among publics, No. 38 overall) and one of the best colleges in the nation for veterans (No. 11 among publics, No. 42 overall).
