Our next stop on our day of art in Austin was the @blantonmuseum on the campus of @utaustintx - first to the this exquisite Ellsworth Kelly exhibit in its own building. Reminiscent of a church, it’s a secular celebration of color and light, and the shifting light of the day and seasons. There were panels of color block black and white, representing the stations of the cross, and the 18 foot wooden monolith (the “altar”) was carved from a single piece of wood. Almost 8 years ago, @jackpattillo mailed me a box that had this shirt and these car stickers in it. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that in so many years, I’d be a Longhorn myself — but here we are, and here I am! I was accepted to @utaustintx after two years of hard work, and I couldn’t have done it without the support, motivation and inspiration of my friends, family and @accdistrict faculty. I especially couldn’t have done it without @jackpattillo and his unfaltering belief in me. Though I will say, when he saw how low the acceptance rate was for transfer students (between 8-11%), he admitted, “If I’d have known, I probably would have been worried for you...” 😂 I feel really proud of myself and I have worked really hard — not just academically, but also on my self worth. In believing that I deserve education and I am worth teaching (I.e. I’m not stupid), I have opened my world and allowed myself to enjoy knowledge I’d never have been exposed to otherwise. It has been the most enriching experience of my life and I am so, so excited (and nervous!) to continue my education and continue on my journey, completing my degree at UT. Still can’t believe actual Aziraphale, Michael Sheen, fully-funded my GoFundMe campaign for Fall 2019 tuition costs for my last semester of UT-Austin grad school in one A. Z. Fell swoop. @neil-gaiman cast the right guy for the job of playing an earth angel. Hook ‘Em! 🤘
