The Rainbow May 1993

A Macintosh LC II had arrived in my family on Christmas Day 1992, and with that new computer in the house the thin newsprint issues of The Rainbow that had kept showing up in our mailboxes in the first months that followed might not have attracted that much attention from me. Seeing this issue, though, did leave me with a moment’s pause. Along with Lonnie Falk’s front-page farewell (offering one last modest claim his publication was “the best-loved computer magazine the world has ever known”), four full pages inside offered closing tributes from assorted CoCo luminaries, including someone from Tandy mentioning he’d at least once seen a “CoCo 4 mockup”). Our paid-up subscription was transferred to Falsoft’s other (and still “normally” bound and printed, so to speak) magazine PCM, for the rest of the year and some months afterwards a window into a door that had just closed for us even if ads from Tandy were a bit hard to find as the company got out of making its own machines to be sold in Radio Shack stores. A few ads in this issue did point to brave continuations, including a “magazine on disk” that made it all the way into the new millennium. Lonnie Falk was eventually elected mayor of Prospect, Kentucky before dying in office in 2006. There are still Color Computer resources to be found online.

I really love this cute cat channel called Cream Heroes by @Claire_luvcat! So, for a recent challenge, I tried to draw the humans that the cats might be based on their personalities and behaviors.

Cats that have long fur have long hair, and vice versa. Those with glasses are tabbies (I was trying to mimic the markings around their eyes).

How well did I do?
