Coco Hayashi performing DIVE! Nijigasaki 7th Love Live! NEW TOKIMEKI LAND
Nijigaku Flower Music♪ STORY with You!: Cactus Duo Cast Comment
[This article was published in Love Live! Days November 2025, released September 30, 2025]
The duo of Coco Hayashi-san and Shu Uchida-san has been chosen to sing the “Cactus” song! Cacti are unique plants often found in desert regions, known for their distinctive spines. Surprisingly, they're also known to bloom with lovely, colorful flowers. We asked the duo to comment on their impressions of cacti and their feelings about the song!
Q.1 Please share your thoughts on your member being chosen for the “Cactus” duo
Shu Uchida (Mia Taylor): The cactus flower's meanings include “warm heart” and “burning heart,” so ever since the flowers were revealed, I'd been thinking Cactus would suit Mia. So to be honest, I wasn’t that surprised—in fact, I think it’s a perfect fit. During the field trip in Hokkaido, I found out the kanji for cactus means “Overlord’s Tree,” so I'm really excited to see what kind of song we can create.
Coco Hayashi (Setsuna Yuki): I thought Setsuna would probably be chosen for Cactus, so my prediction was spot on! I'm honestly thrilled! This time, Mia-san and I will be singing together as a duo. What kind of song will it be? Will it have a rock vibe? Or maybe a Latin feel? I can't wait to hear the finished duet! It's sure to be a passionate one!
Q.2 What do you see as the similarities between your member and cacti?
Shu Uchida: Mia can be a bit prickly, but even when the members make silly requests, she’ll go, “Oh, fine” and play along. She might seem spiky on the surface, but I think she actually has a “gentle heart” like a cactus flower. Plus, they say cacti only bloom in the right environment and with proper care, right? Mia, too, seems to be able to achieve her full potential because she's surrounded by her friends in Nijigaku, which I feel overlaps with the cactus as well.
Coco Hayashi: I thought the cactus flower's meaning of “undying love” was absolutely perfect for Setsuna! She's a girl with the ambition to become a school idol who fills the world with “love.” “Undying love” perfectly describes her unstoppable cries of “love”!
Q.3 Please share any stories or memories you have related to cacti
Shu Uchida: When I was little, there was a big cactus by the entrance of my grandfather's house, and I touched it once out of curiosity (lol). Luckily, I didn't press too hard, so my mom just had to pull out a few spines, but I still remember it vividly. Even if they're pretty to look at, cacti aren't something to be toyed with (lol).
Coco Hayashi: My grandmother loved gardening and grew all sorts of plants. One of them was a cactus! She'd been caring for it for nearly thirty years. Cacti are so resilient! Before it died, it bloomed with vibrant colors—it was truly moving! Seeing such a tough plant produce such small, lovely flowers made me feel warm inside!
Q.4 Please give a message to those who are participating through the field trips (the readers)
Shu Uchida: This project was made possible thanks to all the ideas you gave us throughout our field trips, and I know Yu-chan is working hard to make the most of them in her songwriting. Thank you very much to everyone who shared their ideas! The album comes out in December and the live performance will be in January, so please look forward to them!
Coco Hayashi: Thanks to your contribution, “Nijigaku Flower Music” is shaping up to be an even more wonderful project! I'm also looking forward to seeing what duets everyone in Nijigaku will sing! While the live event will be different from usual, we'll deliver passionate performances to earn lots of love from you, our dear bees!
Coco Hayashi aka Hayamaru: first performance of CHASE!
I will always love Tomoriru as Setsuna and she will always be the original for all of us, but I really enjoyed Hayamaru’s version of the song and her performance. She really brought the same enthusiasm and energy to the character which I definitely one of the most important parts in my eyes.
I know it will take us all some time to get used to this new version of Setsuna but I for one can’t wait to watch Hayamaru grow and support her along the way, and I hope you all can too!
