this is a little spoiler-y so i totally understand if you don't answer but-- how do you think louis and yakumo would react if their s/o was the one who took on all the relics instead of Io in the Dweller in the Dark ending?? (you can also do other character's reaction if you want💕)

[Oh no worries! I’ve finished the game and i’m awaiting the dlc for lord of thunder right now! Had to help someone with classes yesterday so I sadly couldn’t get this out immediately. Hopefully you enjoy reading these as much as I did trying to make them!]

 Louis when you successfully absorb the relics

So Louis would be watching in absolute horror. seeing these relics swirl around you before absorbing them all and becoming the tree? he wouldn’t know what to say or even do for it

He would definitely cry because he watched you sacrifice yourself to restore the blood beads, something he never fully prepared himself for. Add in the reminder that you would pretty much be eternally left to produce beads until your body gave out and frenzied? This poor man would react worse than when he found out that Karen took up the mantle before you did.

Returning to home base alone would hurt for him. Louis could be talking about something everyone knew he was passionate about but in his eyes, he would just seem dead inside. Cheering him up would be near impossible and even if you succeeded, it would only last for an hour at best.

Would have an even bigger guilt complex that forms because of the loss. You think he held on to failing Cruz with an iron fist? His emotions on you would be far worse, since it would already compound into his regrets of not doing what she asked.

He’d HATE himself for not being able to fix the problem like he promised you that didn’t involve sacrifice. He told you so often that you didn’t have to carry the burden alone and now look: you were once again; holding up the entirety of the world by mere strings. And he knew that no matter how badly he wanted to switch places, no matter how many days he would leave flowers or read to you or try to find another way to produce blood beads that there was just no known way for him to bring you back. And that? That was what killed him inside.

Yakumo when you successfully absorb the relics

Oh. Oh no. Yakumo would be so lost. Just watching you become the tree would cause terror to creep onto his face. It was as if everything was in slow motion for him. One minute you were there, fighting the Virgin born with an unmatched ferocity and the next? You’re a tree, blooming blood beads while you were encased inside, never to be free.

Once the gravity of the situation hit? He’d scream and cry and beat his fists against the ground from the shock. He had hoped it was going to be different. That it could’ve been anyone else but you. Or that there was a better way.

But he knew that there wasn’t a better way. That something had to give. A sacrifice had to be made to make sure everyone could finally be safe. That frenzy would never have to be a common occurrence if the beads were restored.

When everyone first returned, Yakumo’s usual happy go lucky attitude would be all but nonexistent. He’d either want to be alone or would be uncomfortably serious while he comes to terms with what happened. He lost his significant other and with the temptation to drink himself into a stupor, he wouldn’t know what to do. Then he would think of you and how you’d feel if he let himself spiral out of control. And that was the kick he needed to start finding the will to live.

He would always protect your tree, showing up with cards, a drink and some blood beads as well as his weapons; making sure no one found out about you in the Gaol. This would become a habit and after some time, others may join him. Some days it was Louis who joined him, other it was Emily and every now and a again, even Rin or Coco joined him. But no matter what, he swore to protect your new form for as long as he could.

Bonus: Mia when you successfully absorb the relics

You could hear a pin drop when she watched your form become the tree. Everything that ever happened played through her mind. From the first encounter to when you two became best friends and more once pleasant memories. Then she let out a heart breaking wail, something so bad they could feel the Gaol begin to shake.

Everyone had to pull her out, with her fighting all the way through because she was shown the most kindness by you, she bonded with you and cared about you and even told Nicola about you and you were taken from her. You were her glimmer of hope in a dark world for saving her baby brother and now she couldn’t even free you from your own prison.

She would be harsh to everyone but Nicola because she wishes it was anyone else who did it. She despised how weak she felt. It was as if Nicola was dying of frenzy all over again. Her stomach churned and twisted from the painful thought that this time, there was no nice and neat ending. That despite you saving everyone, when you needed it the most, no one could return the favor.

Ultimately she came to accept what happened and began to visit your tree; mostly leaving gifts that you once liked in life. She would even vent to you about her days sometimes, hoping that you could somehow hear her. After some time, she would bring Nicola to see your new form and explain what you did for everyone

Though there was some hope when she saw that at the base of your tree, a flower began to bloom, right where she would sit everyday. it wasn’t much, but maybe it was a sign from you that you were still around, in spirit at least

[So a heads up, this will be tagged as spoilers since it could apply for one or even two of the endings in Code Vein as well as mentioning parts of Vestiges! This will also be tagged as Code Pain for the sad/dark aspects aspects of it. It’s another long one so without further ado, I bring you more headcanons. Enjoy!]

Coco whens she discovers that you won’t be coming back

- When you first arrived at Home base, she was very standoffish towards you starting out because she was scared to get too close to you. She lost her son and got Kevin killed after letting him walk away with harvested blood beads that she sent him to collect among other things

- Of course it wasn’t a surprise that over time, as you stayed around and bought wares and even helped retrieve memories for her, she began to welcome your face coming through the doors of the church. After some time, you two even spent time together just talking and enjoying each’s other’s company

- So when she didn’t see you come through the doors after going to fight Silva? internally she was devastated, especially if no one came back at all.

- Coco would be very sentimental and would be beating herself up inside for not letting herself show anything if no one came back. Murasame and Davis would definitely be found comforting her as they would be as equally distraught.

- I could see her ultimately leaving Home base due to all the memories it has of you and of everyone else, either to find out what truly happened or because she feels suffocated there.

-Now I would personally say that being the person she is, she would make sure that Murasame and Davis wouldn’t be out of luck on a merchant before she leaves at least

- However, if only you failed to return? Prepare to see her turn cold as stone should anyone ever mention you to her. While everyone openly mourns your death, she would do it privately due to her memories of her own failures.

- If she saw you as family, especially as her child? Complete shut down at the sound of your name. She wouldn’t even want to mention you by name, let alone what you’ve done to attempt to ensure peace for a little longer. After some time, she would be able to ultimately mention you again, but with more of a wistful tone in her voice.

- If she saw you as a lover, I could see her being more open in her mourning in the sense of joining them to leave flowers at your feet at the throne. I could also see her visiting your resting place on occasion. Now she’d never drink or do anything that self destructive but with support from the others, I could see her potentially opening up and attempting to be more welcoming over time, if only to honor your memory.

So talk to me about an MC who really wants to (re-)befriend Jack due to the Memory Vestige, despite the fact that said vestige also now gave them mild uncontrollable anxiety when around him due to the trauma of being killed. Like, MC is TRYING to have a nice chat with Jack, can we not do this now ptsd??? Let me love this man again!!!!

[Alright I’m gonna attempt this because I do suffer from its variant c-ptsd but if it isn’t overly specific, its because its not a topic i feel I can safely write perfectly for. With that said, I’m gonna tag as spoliers since it’s gonna openly state some things about Eva and the Queenslayer vestige. Enjoy!]

The MC trying to befriend Jack after learning he killed them

Alright so I can see it now: you’ve had your memories restored and you met up to help Jack after Eva came looking for you and the rest of the crew from home base

I mean he had to at least remember you when he asked you to join him in being a watcher and was able to tell Eva to seek you out for help, so why was seeing him in person always something that gave you this primal fear despite knowing the reasoning for why you were shot in Queenslayer?

Once you saved Eva from becoming lost, you tried to befriend Jack again after he thanked you for saving Eva and keeping him from repeating history again with her at the other end of his blade

Then he notices that while you’re trying to talk to him, that you’re trying to keep yourself calm. From attempting to control your breathing to pausing and trying to give proper eye contact, he could tell something was wrong.

He’d ask if everything was alright, citing that you were never like this before Queenslayer and if you needed some time, he would graciously give it to you

You were telling him not to worry and getting frustrated that those memories were overwhelming you until you just broke down. Whether it was an enraged scream, uncontrollable tears or just giving into the past and doing a thousand yard stare, he let you have time alone, fearing it was his fault

Though after about a week of trying to reign in the worst of it, You finally explained that day that you were angry that you were struggling to just talk to him as a friend after the events that’s transpired

Jack is shocked but grateful. He never thought you really saw him as a friend after everything he’s done: From trying to take you from the rest of the team to shooting you in the heart to prevent you from becoming the next Queen, he knew he did a lot to warrant losing your trust.

So he was more than happy to take time slowly trying to become friends with you, careful to not push you too far because of his fears and in response to your last reaction to attempting to force yourself to attempt friendship

Once a friendship has been made between you and him though? You get to discover that he’s more of a relaxed person than meets the eye. Drinks and conversations give way to things you didn’t previously know about the seemingly cold man

Jack is just one of those friends where despite his hard exterior, you can come to him about anything and even with the rocky start, he completely understands how seeing something that causes an unpleasant response can affect one’s mental state and is supportive every step of the way

Hey, I was reading some of the tiny mc headcanons and was wondering how that would be with a tall mc? (Maybe taller than Yakumo?) Any character reaction is fine!

[Sorry if these are super short and not as perfect as I would like, my tonsils have been killing me and my allergies have made me feel even worse with the pressure in my face... anyways this will have the spoiler tag as usual for content mentioned.]

Mia with a Tall MC

When Mia first met you, it was pretty shocking, especially since you rivaled the height of Yakumo, who was already big enough as is. Add in the sight of you restoring the blood spring and the demeanor you seemed to have once she had awakened and it was a recipe for wary curiosity that led into joining the gang

After getting to know you, she would worry about her own usefulness and short stature and if you were closer to her in age, she would be even more flustered, seeing as you two are the same age but you were far taller and way more intimidating

That doesn’t stop her from worrying about you after having to help restore Nicola’s memories and in response, taking an outrageously painful looking beat-down from her own baby brother. Tending to your injuries and apologizing for what happened while expressing her gratitude. You literally saved her brother from a fate that could’ve been far worse and you seemed so casual about it all.

Once the events have been neatly wrapped up and blood was restored to the waste, I feel like by then Mia would be extremely close to you and as she watches you give Nicola piggy back rides and help him adjust to being back to his normal physical form, something he was still getting used to, I think she would be grateful that when she did awaken from what had happened, that she joined you instead of walking away.

Yakumo with a tall MC

He never thought he’d meet someone who could even come close to his height, not to mention actually having a couple of inches on him! He would be amazed and unsure what to say when he first meets you and actually has to look up at you. Sure, he doesn’t have to look down; which helps his neck but in your presence, even he feels short.

If you two become best friends, this would be the most memorable duo the base has ever seen, from the two of you drinking yourselves to stupors for fun and gambling candies or beads in card games to pass the time when relaxing, talking all the while to being efficient partners who take no shit in a fight and makes certain that the other makes it back home.

When you learn about your past with Queenslayer, Yakumo would be the first one there with a drink or a bead in hand and a shoulder to cry on. He was once a mercenary and with everything he’s seen and gone through, he knows how it feels to have seen some things and intimidating size or not, you’re still a person who feels things

Of course if he fell in love with you, he would be the most caring person you would ever see, even with his smartass antics. He may give you some shit about how tall you are but if anyone comes at his lover and tries to harm them, it doesn’t matter what they say or do to try to try to calm his anger, he’s having none of it and will fight anyone tooth and nail to keep you safe. After all, his code isn’t named after a titan for nothing.

Eva with a Tall MC

When Jack first introduced her to you, she was honestly astonished by the height, since you comfortably stood as the tallest person in the base while being unexpectedly graceful and skilled in your movements. She had heard him talk about you often and in her mind’s eye, she pictured you as being smaller than how you looked now

It wasn’t an issue but as you two spent more time together, you two became fast friends, sharing similar interests and giving the other new hobbies in the process. You had taken up gardening and she found what you showed her to be just as entertaining.

Fighting with her became a constant, with Jack tagging along every so often to help you two out and make sure you don’t harm her early on. For later tag alongs, it would be due to having nothing better to do or by her request only, since she felt as safe with you as she does with Jack

If you and Eva enter into a relationship, she’s so much of a sweetheart that you can’t help to love her. Though if someone tries to harm or kill you, this adorable woman has no issue having to pull the trigger on her bayonet since she’s grown to love you as much as she does Jack. Overall, Eva could potentially rival you in sheer intimidation factor even if she doesn’t have the same amount of height that you do when needing to command a room.

- He knew it was coming. He knew that taking down Silva wasn't going to be a neat one and done situation where everyone can go in, slay a beast and walk out without any resistance.

- So when he saw you become the tree? You could swear you could see the very moment the light left his eyes. You'd see him trying to reach out to you, remembering what happened in Queenslayer and trying to grab your arm with this fervor that hasn't been seen before

- The noise he makes when he can't save you though? it would sound so inhuman, so broken and so wrong that for a while, no one could even move, let alone try to pull him out of there. He'd ultimately stand and walk out of his own accord but everyone swore they could see the tears flowing hard from his eyes

- At home base, Jack would seem like he was unaffected at first, until someone mentions you. He seems to freeze and his breath hitches. His eyes seem to not be here for half a second, then he's back and he tells you to not mention your name and with the tone he uses for it, you know you've crossed the line, even if it isn't hostile in nature

- If you and Jack were best friends? He would definitely stop talking about you but hold the memory close to his heart, much like Valerio. Any use of nicknames you had for him would elicit a response of him freezing in battle like he did then, and him hiding his sentimental nature in the name of preserving his right to be a useful ally

- However if you two were lovers, either polygamous with Eva or monogamous? You would be able to see it in his face that the loss broke him. He lost someone he loved, he cared about, someone whom he failed to protect now twice in a row. It was a glaring reminder with how empty the base felt without you there.

- Either relationship would cause him to steel himself for a life after your sacrifice. He would visit your tree and maybe hang one of his pieces of jewelry or one of your old pieces on the many branches that stretched out and up to the sunlight, as a gift to your now lost form.

- So when he was given an amber colored bead in return for his gift? He nearly cried then and there. For him, it meant you were still alive and wanting the best for everyone, including him.

Rin when you successfully absorb the relics

- She was excited to see the return of the beads and the sight of everyone walking through the church doors. That is...until you didn't. She was confused and asked you if you were going to walk in at any moment and if you were just pranking her. When everyone shook their heads no? She began to panic, after all, this couldn't be real, right???

- Cue her pretty much crying and bawling for days. She'll try to work on repairing and fixing weapons but it'll be near impossible. If she was told that all blood beads came from your tree? She would refuse to eat and nearly send herself into a frenzy, she's that distressed.

- When she cares about anyone, she cares deeply. Rin would be the definition of wearing one's heart on their sleeve. So when people appealed to how You would feel if she killed herself and became a lost because of the sacrifice she made, it would make it pointless before explaining that you were just dormant, almost as if you were sleeping.

- That got her to eat but she couldn't believe that you were just dormant until she was brought to the tree. When she saw a bead with a game safely encased inside, everyone was pleased to see her perk up and smile after everything. It wasn't much but it was progress towards coping and ultimately accepting the loss of your presence around the base and understanding that this isn't the end.

Gin didn't get this ending, but I thought it was bittersweet.
