Coditty: “Slow Skate” (Fanart based on my fanfic, Redemption)
Today, I bring you a small fanart of a fanon ship, Coditty. A ship I believe that, if they met, they’d hit it off, both as friends and even as romantic partners. This little piece is called “Slow Skate” and it’s based on Ch. 12 (First Date?) of my fanfic, Redemption (post-AS, pre-RR). In said chapter, we go through Cody’s POV instead of Gwen’s as he goes on a day out with one his newest best friends/crush, Kitty. They went roller skating to a local rink and, at one point, the place engages its patrons in a small dance event called: “Slow Skate”. I’ll leave the snippet from the fic that describes what Cody does, and what was the base for this fanart piece. Enjoy😊 :
From there, our second round of skating went just as good as the first one, albeit this time a bit less intense so that neither of us puked out our lunch. I didn’t pull any more tricks on her, despite me wanting to just for fun, and we skidded around so swiftly. I did, however, sometimes wanted to show off my skating “skills” by making the most basic maneuvers. It wasn’t much, but I still made her laugh, and hey, that’s an achievement if you ask me. We rolled around for a very long while, we even passed Gwen and Trent a couple of times. However, I wasn’t prepared for what was coming on next. Before either of us knew, the lights around the rink were dimmed, the music changed, and we heard a speaker let out an announcement:
- Ladies and gentlemen of the rink. It is now time for “Slow Skate”. Grab a partner and roll around slowly with these soft dance tunes. Enjoy your time with each other and just live the moment. –
How could I forget about “slow skate”? Whenever I visited the place it was either my cue for a break or to leave. But now… now I had an actual partner for it. The question is… will she accept if I invite her? I could see that Kitty was confused at the announcement and was actually turning to ask me about it.
- Slow skate? Cody, what’s he talking ab… - Her speech was interrupted when she saw me once again offering my hand to her, asking her for a dance.
- Would you… would you grant me this piece, Ms. Katherine? – I asked, flustered but bravely with the best smile I could give.
I closed my eyes shut after asking but then opened them briefly to see what she’d say. She didn’t say anything, her cheeks simply blushed as her smile and eyes told me all I needed to know, she even had her hands cupping her chin, indicating that she was touched by the invitation. Without even hesitating, I felt her soft hand over the one I was extending to her. I opened my eyes fully to see my beautiful friend with her hand still over mine, giving me a sweet smile and rolling slowly towards me. I knew what this meant. Not dropping my eyes off her, I wrapped my arms around her waist, and she wrapped hers around my neck. Despite our height difference, which wasn’t a lot to be honest, it was a comfortable position and both of us were enjoying it with each other’s light embrace. Wanting to be bold and show her the ropes, I led us into dance, keeping up well with the music.

Yup, he’s asking her to dance with him! Ah, I swear, I loved writing this chapter, but not more than I enjoyed doing this little fanart based on it. Even if they’re just friends at this point of the story, the moment just felt really cute and romantic and I hope I captured it well in you guys’ eyes, let me know what you think! Reminder: This is BEFORE Ridonculous Race.
I decided to play with the outfits of both of them. For Cody, I went ahead and gave him a sweater over his shirt and more simplistic jeans. For Kitty, I based her looks on an edit that a roleplayer on Instagram did. For one, her hair is down, she’s sporting a red cardigan with a white shirt underneath and wearing jeans instead of her skirt. The background was, I feel, the weakest part of the art, after all, I’m more of a character designer than an environmental one😅 The mood, however, I thought was done well.
I’m leaving you guys with the full piece including characters, background and lighting as well as two PNGs of only them.
I really like this couple, even if they’ve never met. I believe they could work out well and I wanted to try my hand at making something to show it. However, I will also completely understand if you don’t ship them or ship them with other characters. 👍🏻
