some morning thoughts ...
I’ll leave out the ethical and political aspects (tbh tumblr is mostly my consciously apolitical bubble)
This controversy surrounding Armie’s film is (whether you like it or not) the best thing that could have happened to him right now.
We knew his only chance was to start with a low-budget independent film, which, however, has a 99% chance of not reaching a wide audience.
And of course, for the career of an actor who was previously showcased on the big screen, this is a huge step backward.
The worst thing that could have happened to him was to repeatedly try to make a comeback in films that would go unnoticed.
The fact that people are talking and writing about this film ... even that it was banned and pissed off a lot of people, that it’s circulating on controversial platforms, all those emotions … all of this enormously increases its appeal to the market and raises Armie’s profile as an actor more than we could have hoped for right now.
We may not necessarily like it, but that's how it works, and seeing him stop being invisible feels so good.
