Starbucks is giving every U.S. employee a raise of at least 10% Source | www.nrn.com | Joanna Fantozzi Starbucks is giving all U.S. employees a raise of at least 10% that will go into effect on Dec. 14, an internal memo first reported on by Business Insider on Wednesday said. The pay increase includes a 10% raise for baristas, supervisors and café attendants hired on or before Sep. 14; an 11% raise for employees that have worked with the company for at least three years; and a 5% pay increase for all starting salary rates. The company will also increase the premium that Starbucks pays above minimum wage in every market. The news broke two months ahead of inauguration day for President-elect Joe Biden, who has vowed to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Starbucks confirmed the pay raises in a statement. “For nearly 50 years, Starbucks has been a leader in providing relevant, industry-leading benefits and a total compensation approach that is best-in-class for both part and full-time employees,” a Starbucks representative told Nation’... https://human-engineers.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/HR-News-16.jpg https://human-engineers.com/starbucks-is-giving-every-u-s-employee-a-raise-of-at-least-10/?feed_id=12061&_unique_id=6105387f23cb5 https://human-engineers.com/starbucks-is-giving-every-u-s-employee-a-raise-of-at-least-10/?feed_id=12061&_unique_id=6105387f23cb5

So I’m a barista/coffee master at Starbucks, and for the first year I loved my job. It was honestly everything I wanted, until I realized how unhappy I actually was about a month ago. It hit me during a moment when I had been barring for about 8 hours already, and was going into overtime, when I started to realize that I don’t really like doing this anymore. The overall lovely atmosphere, and dazzling flair that I once associated with being a Barista; has been completely removed. It’s not that the customers are horrible (some are), but that the overall mental stress of the job is what’s really dragging me down. It’s really difficult to manage good grades in college, and work 30-35 hours a week. I tried cutting down on hours, but I still feel the same exhaustion. Maybe it’s time I call it quits- something I would have never considered a few months ago. It’s been a very fun, monumental year for me, and Starbucks has been a huge part of it, but I’m truthfully done with it as far as I can tell. It’s become less of a job, and more of an unnecessary mental stressor that can be easily replaced for another job with the same (even less, i don’t care at this point) pay.
In any case, I know most Baristas do love their job, and have accomplished a lot in their x amount of years. My coworker has been with the company for 10 years now, and she still manages to have the same passion and love for the job when she first started. I don’t know if it’s school + work that’s burning me out, but all in all, everything right now seems so stressful and exhausting.
Yet, I still take the time to consider that I’m very lucky to have a job that gives me benefits (health insurance mainly), and that I get paid well above the minimum wage. If you’re a Barista, and you’re reading this, I salute you and what you do everyday in order to finish your shift right.
i didn’t expect this post to be so long, but my rant of the month probably. What do you guys think?
