Hello. Sorry to bother you. Do you know of any realistic examples of unhealthy ISTP and INTP movie/TV show characters in Ni and Si loop and how to tell them apart?
How do you tell people of these two type apart (since they are not using their auxiliary extrovert functions (Se and Ne) when they’re in a Ni or Si loop)?
I think stereotypically, negative Ni would fixate on future and Si would fixate on past. However, most people (IRL) usually focus on both, especially when they’re in an unhealthy state of mind.
How do you tell them apart? What kind of (other) differences do they show that helps you tell them apart?
Thanks.
Not offhand, no. Their loops are dissimilar. Ti/Si analyzes and re-analyzes detailed information from their past in order to make sense of something they feel has derailed them, often becoming deeply subjective and not being accurate in how they remember the incident (it’s subjective and colored by “what I took away from what happened” rather than objectively factual /data-related). Ti/Ni analyzes and re-analyzes a future they feel is inevitable and doomed, feeling like there’s nothing they can do to stop this bad thing from happening (whatever they have decided that is) and becoming inert in their certainty of failure -- often finding a catastrophic thing to fixate on (I’m going to get fired, my partner is cheating on me, I know it, we’re all doomed).
ISTPs don’t care about the past in a subjective way, and INTPs don’t create pessimistic doom scenarios except in a low sense of Si “my life sucks now, it has always sucked, it will always suck, because I’ll never be anything else / leave this moment, it will repeat forever and I’ll always be stuck in a rut.”
