An Invitation to Dinner Instructions
· Please sit down and place your hands flat on the table
· For the purpose of this experiment I will refer to you as participant A and participant B
· Please check your name card now and only follow the instructions that apply to you
· Try to remain silent and maintain eye contact through out the experiment.
· Look directly at the person opposite you
· Breathe – taking a deep breath in and out
· Take the napkin and place it neatly in your lap
· Observe the food that is placed in front of you starting from left to right
· Take a closer look at the 1st item, observing the colours, shapes and textures
· Pick up the first item,
· Feeling it between your fingers observing the subtle changes in pressure and temperature
· Smell again breathing in deep
· Bring the item to your mouth and stroke your lips moving from left to right
· Maintain eye contact with the person opposite you
· Bring the item to your mouth and stick out your tongue
· Very slowly place the item to your tongue and move very subtly from left to right
· Thinking about what you might taste
· Smell now taking a deep breath
· Place the whole item between your teeth and bite once, without chewing
· Feel the changes in pressure, temperature and texture
· Without swallowing chew slowly for 20 times listening to the sounds
· Thinking about the sensations that occur
THE NEXT TWO ITEMS SHALL BE DONE IN THE EXACT SAME WAY!
· Place your hands flat on the table and looking directly at the person opposite you
· Breath- taking a deep breath in and out
· Place your napkin on the table
· Stand up and leave the room
· 3 course meal in miniature x number of participants
· Table and chairs – make space as clinical as possible
· Video camera/monitor so I can watch the experiment
· Speakers so the participants can hear my instructions
· Enclosed room for the experiment to take place
· Invitation to dinner – title/ invitations/menu – I want this to be quite clinical/scientific not comfortable
· After experiment food boxes – thank the audience for their participation
· Monitor showing the experiment from a different room
