The marriage of Braccio Martelli and Constanza de Pazzi was an event all Florence had been looking forward to. They all wanted to celebrate, but to Lucrezia is was the perfect excuse to see Lorenzo without raising suspicion. Her husband was not present, alas, and thus she was alone to represent the Ardinghelli name. Not that it bothered her. Smiling politely, greeting as many as she could, Lucrezia was truly looking for only one soul. When finally her eyes met his, the most genuine smiled appeared on her lips. ❝  messer de medici, it is a pleasure to see you on this joyous occasion.  ❞  A wedding, a _display _of love. She certainly wished she was able to display her own love freely, unfortunately it was impossible, forbidden by laws far more powerful than her selfish desires.

@cognoscente​​ gets a starter! 

After the latest state banquet Caterina had retreated to the solitude of the library. It had a calming effect to pass the shelves, let her hand touch the bindings and read the titles. Eventually she settled for Homer, a good read to train her Greek, which seemed quite useful now in this new environment. Despite all the change in her life, books and education presented a constant, something she was used to and deep down she cherished that. So as she had so often at her old home, Caterina sat down on the floor close to the window, back against one of the wooden shelves. When the door opened and closed, it needed a moment for her to return to reality. She recognized the figure, that now approached her, instantly. At first she felt the urge to get up, show her respect with a bow. But Lorenzo was family now, Caterina reminded herself, such formality was unnecessary.

“I enjoy the silence here between all this poetry and knowledge. It seems I still need some time to adjust to all these people courting me and the attention my new name provokes”, Caterina explained with a slight smile. Somehow she sensed that Il Magnifico would understand such a notion.

She could feel it, the woman’s gaze on her back. Whenever a vampire looked at her it was cold creeping down her spine that Diana felt. When a deamon did it was the feeling a passionate kiss pressed against her neck that would part lips in a soft gasp. Having lived amongst witches her whole life this was both comforting, but at the same time frightening                          after all, whom could she trust ?     ❝   A lie for my own good ?   ❞     She tried, the soft pad of her thumb nervously rubbing past her other fingers. Getting locked up this time and day was not her aim, nor was the idea of burning at the stake. However, there was slight hope.     ❝   Sometimes you have to hide- even amongst your own kind.   ❞

          “you didn’t?” daario is carrying the man more than he is helping him walk. that hasn’t hit lorenzo yet. his arm is around him, muscles pulled taut, fingers turned white under the strain, but he doesn’t stop until they are out of the maze of alleys and long narrow streets through he’s led them. “no. you aren’t shot,” he confirmed. “but you were shot at.” stopping at a corner, he checks the area then turns his head to look at the man who pays him. “first time is always a shock to the system.” lorenzo is young and fit, adrenaline will kick in soon enough. “you fancy a ride?” he asks, jutting his chin towards a parked motorcycle. “i’m not comfortable escorting you back to your car.”

“Is it true? Is the Fold your doing?” A quiet question, yet uttered emphatically. Not that the tailor truly expected an explanation from him, but since Alina had threw these accusation at her, the thoughts had been running wild in her head, demanding clarity.

spring echoes in his steps    /     the misery of the ground beneath him retreating out of the darkness and letting flowers bloom when his feet hit the ground! it is the only semblance of life around down below here  (   except for theirs   )  and when he eases further forward the greenery dies with his absence. but hazel warmth ignores mourning them  ,   for there are new ones springing around the soles of his feet wherever he goes   ,   for there are more important matters eating at the freedom of his mind. the air feels heavy   ;   neither rot or decay enough to dab the crisp sleeve of his shirt to his mouth and nose   ,   so used to it even with his absence half of the year’s time. but the darkness pooling at the edges in front of him certainly weighs a ton    ,    enough to have the golden crowned man not only roll his eyes to himself but to reach into the thick cloud forbidding him to see the man hiding behind it until he can grasp at least some part of the other. it seems to be his arm   ,    but it could also be anything else that is clad in the usual black attire of his husband.   “you can stop being unreasonable now, aleksander” sun-kissed silk rising out of his throat   ,   a tiredness clinging to it that seems reminiscent of the fight they just had  :   again.  “i am here now, am i not? i remember a time when you were happy to see me. it would be nice if you would at least act like you are a little thrilled. maybe i wouldn’t have so much reason to complain then. did that ever occur to you?”

       HIS EYES, BLUE AND MAGNETIC RESTED UPON HER FIGURE, her elegance not passing unnoticed from his wise and clever gaze. And Lorenzo was not a man that dealt well with threats, not after the PAZZI, not after the treason he endured.     “   Then it is fortunate I am NO PRINCE,     ”    his voice was pleasant as if he was talking of the mastery of Sandro Botticelli or indulges on love and poetry. ALAS! What was he if not a KING without a crown? or else this much power, this much influence could not be explained.

             ‘ you are indeed correct, messer medici. after all…’      her lips turn up in a finely-painted, reserved smile, arch at the edges.      ‘ is it not he who assigns the divine right of kings? ’             there is no threat in her words…   for what purpose does she have, what leverage to hold?      an exiled grand duchess, whose nation has fallen to chaos and bloodshed…   no, she wants nothing from lorenzo de medici.   there is an arrogance to the so-called ruler of florence which leaves her wary.       she has seen enough rulers crushed by their toppling kingdoms.         ‘ if you believe in that sort of thing.    my father did.   but revolution, you see, will bear down upon man and god without discrimination. ’
