okay after seeing this twitter screenshot i feel extremely validated about some very rough thoughts i had about caine last year (ss of my discord thoughts below)

i want to refine the last statement to "a kid who was handed the matchbox and gasoline, told to mind the furnace and the adults are surprised when they come home to a burned down house" because there were no explicit instructions. caine is not made to tend to human mental health, much less the complicated mental needs of numerous very different people. he is designed to build stories and ideas and as most writers will tell you, a good story does not constitute a healthy lifestyle (except perhaps slice of life, but caine wasn't given a data set of cafes and rainy evenings and good-natured bickering, was he?)

in many ways, this tadc could be seen as a tradgedy— and this is not me praising the writing, there are plenty of issues, but— the flaws of the characters are set against eachother in ways that lead to lose-lose situations. caine listens, here and there, but does not make changes to his own behavior to address his "performers" wants/needs. and the crew does not observe caine's repetitive, thoughtless behavior and realize he's not going to grow without extra help. i can see where the neurodivergent headcanons come from in regards to him, because he doesn't have any bearings on the expectations or standards others have. (you could also draw comparisons to kids/teens, esp with the lashing out when he's hurting, but caine is in this weird spot bc of his status as an AI.)

my original point stands; he is NOT a fully matured, rational human adult with common sense, and should not be held accountable as such. he's guilty, but with circumstances that need to be considered.

ok so I havent played PL:ZA and ive only seen everything second hand (spoilers, PL:ZA and a touch of SV below)

—but I HAVE heard/seen/read mixed opinions (mostly positive) about the tidbit of submas we got. that little bit of museum text and flavor dialogue. and honestly? while yeah, they could have definitely done more and fans have every right to be annoyed, i think what we have is perfect and the best possible answer they could have given us. ingo's leave, emmet's stint alone, the state of the battle subway, and ingo's return is something of a noodle incident at this point (not to say it is the textbook definition of that trope, not remotely)

the most important part of it's intrigue is that we don't know.

there are one of three ways it could have gone and this was the best of the three. a few lines of text that give us enough information to draw a conclusion, but not enough for the fan's collective imaginations to be locked down. the other options were to make a show of it, or not give us anything. obviously, nothing is supremely disappointing, aside from the minor benefit of leaving room for all that wonderful speculation and fanworks to grow in. we'd still be left stewing in unknowns for potentially years, and that would drive us to increase or decrease our expectations for the reveal and, more than likely end up disappointed when the reveal didn't turn out how we wanted. as for making a show of it... anything gamefreak/pokemon gave us could not POSSIBLY be as good as the multitude of fanworks out there interpreting ingo's unplanned exodus in a million dramatic ways. especially given pokemon's known habit of dry cutscenes recycling animations and leaving the action to a black screen. not that they can't produce anything cool anymore, it's just sprinkled between said low effort storybeats. personally, i would have settled for nothing less than an SV ai professor levels of theatrics (not necessarily something epic, but something heavy at least. cut the music and let the weight of grief and joy and loss and time settle in).

however, even if i got what i wanted, i don't think I'd be happy. the fanworks have already given me everything i wanted, so... how can you improve on that? i dont think you can. especially not in the current state of pokemon games. a simple "yes, ingo went home" is plenty good enough for me. in all honesty, i am debating if the minimal details we got are a good thing— the fact that he seems to have gone fully knowing, among other implications, almost puts a damper on the all the wonderfully creative interpretations the community has come up with. what legendaries/mythicals were involved, if he got his memories back, where and when he came back, etc etc...

...i'm not going to be mad we have an answer, though. this is all lighthearted!! AUs exist for a reason and i don't see why the community should stop making them now.

ok but are we getting any SV mega evos

an idea i had that would not leave me alone: rock/ghost garganacl or rock/ground gargancl (why wasn't it rock/ground in the first place? cause of the 4x weaknesses?)

i'm not a great competitive battler but i imagine megarganacl X (@poetmellifluou-s stealing that name) would have shadow tag/rough skin and run sets like salt cure + curse + confuse ray + hex (@authorjones built this annoying ghost-tera curse garganacl for her team i literally had to build a hatterene stall breaker against it "anti-salt") or maybe something with perish song/destiny bond. poison spikes too? who knows.

megagarnacl y would definitely have water absorb, then could pair with sunny day teams and use fire punch, heat crash, or temper flare to overcome that grass weakness too. moves like yawn, stealth rock, iron defense, sandstorm, sand tomb, for more stall power or something like body press to take advantage of that beef. high horsepower and fissure, too... edit: almost forgot to mention this is an SS REDRAW!!! i suck at drawing mons without heavy referencing so there was some loose tracing of an ss i took of my beloved garganacl Honey Honey

has anyone thought about what it must be like to be an animal foster parent? like there's just this large, skin-covered alien thing that appears and puts a baby in front of you. "here, you look like a good parent. take this child." and if you aren't weirded out by the smell and appearance, you just go "yep this is mine" and the alien thing leaves you with your new baby. you don't even react half the time, the child just manifests in your life and you roll with it because you're family now. kisses and hugs and food for your son.
