Before and after bluing. I think it turned out GREAT. For those who may not know, bluing creates a protective oxide layer on the steel that prevents further oxidation such as rust.
In cold bluing, this is achieved by degreasing the steel and then applying a weak acid for a short time before neutralizing it. Degreasing is an essential part of the process, as any oils or grease can interfere with the process. Even natural oils from skin can pose a problem.
Right now I’ve coated it with a rust preventative to allow the bluing to cure without any further oxidation from any moisture in the air. I think this turned out really well.
