This says so much about Demona. She's burned so many bridges and kindled such hatred for all those she could make connections with in this world over the last thousand years that she is just trying to make it night by night. She's lost sense of anything more than surviving, and the only thing that keeps her from sinking into the despair that keeps getting its hooks briefly into Goliath is to kindle this fire and hatred.
They're actually quite interesting to compare. He may be a more healthy and well rounded person with better relationships by turning his back on the path of vengeance and hatred and anger, but it has left him much more vulnerable to giving up and ideations of letting it all go away.
Demona's wall of rage and fury and her MISSION against humans has shielded protected her from that which keeps gripping Goliath. In light of that, it's almost hard to fault her. And because her bridges have been burned, she has no sense of any real hope of kindling any sort of meaningful connections. No one will have her now. No one can trust her. And to let her shields down enough to be vulnerable threatens to crash her whole house of cards.
Good for Coldstone though for asking the question, for wanting more and defying what he may truly believe is the possibility to keep surviving for the chance of a life that offers more.
