Жук-атлас является одним из самых крупный представителей семейства Пластинчатоусых, обитающих в Юго-Восточной Азии. Получил свое название в честь могучего  титана из греческой мифологии Атласа который поддерживал небо.

Длина тела 40—110 мм. Окраска тела чёрная, с металлическим блеском. Голова, переднеспинка и надкрылья самца гладкие. Самец с длинным рогом на голове и двумя длинными слегка изогнутыми выростами на переднеспинке, направленными вперёд или вперёд и частично вниз. Самка гораздо меньшего размера по сравнению с самцом, без «рогов», матовая, чёрного цвета, надкрылья бугорчатые, покрыта бурыми волосками.

Этот жук довольно силен - он может поднимать предметы, превышающие его массу тела в 850 раз!

hello my dears... pretty leaf beetle at the bus stop

idk if yall have seen that meme on pinterest thats like "insects in the most pristine nature reserve" and its a photo of an unremarkable black beetle and then it says "insects at a random gas station" and its like a collection of very vibrant and colourful bugs.

thats basically what happened here. this bluish purplish leaf beetle landed on my moms hand while we were at the bus stop. and its just this tiny little guy that i dont recognise (also the reason im leaving it as just 'leaf beetle')

look at him and his tiny feet! so distinguished

Common Green June Beetle (Cotinis nitida). Family Scarabaeidae, order Coleoptera.

I saw these two in a scrap. I'm not sure what they were fighting for but it was quite entertaining to watch.
