Been drafting all these ideas for my Colloyd fic next month. As mentioned earlier, it's something of an absurdist wedding; truth be told, I don't have a firm plot -- I don't even know if it'll be the actual wedding or the reception (maybe both?) -- so I'm just writing outrageous scenes I find funny and seeing where they lead me. Hopefully I'll have something concrete soon.
Naturally, with all the silliness going on, I'm taking the opportunity to stuff it chock-full of obscure references; in fact, there's this whole list of potential gags that's growing by the day. I'm aiming to have it all flow organically rather than propping up an easter egg fest, but I wonder how many my fellow fans can spot? (Actually, this is probably why I won't share any previews...sorry!)
To help prep myself, I've been revisting the game's multimedia; currently, I'm watching the *anime blu-rays, will probably reread the manga, descend into the potential horrors of the audio dramas, and then-
...oh...oh no, it just hit me. Am I really going to replay this stupid game for the sake of this one fic? (Hey, with nonsense on the brain, maybe this is a golden opportunity to do an all-team swimsuit run...)
How many times have I beaten TOS at this stage -- over fifteen times? I've lost count. It was just over a decade ago that I began my 100% run with the original GameCube version, complete with every character ending? Took me over five years, if I recall correctly. Between everything from missables, doing one entire playthrough for the Gung Ho title, and accidentally forgetting to inherit the Collector's Book data one time, you better believe it was a tough ride.
Still, as a Tales of Symphonia superfan, I couldn't accept anything less. Rest assured, I'll apply the same passion to this tongue-in-cheek fic. The patented fluffy sweetness that is Colloyd will remain intact, I assure you.
Please look forward to it!
*Okay, seriously, who was responsible for the translations here? It's bad enough the Discotek release is so barebones (none of the comedy omakes are included), but what's with all the inconsistencies? I mean, Rewin? **Techbirds?? Barraclough Temple?!? Did they not have anyone cross-reference the actual localization? They already did the bare minimum with Raine/Refill -- surely you could've at least done a quick Google search!
**Heck, this is from Tales of Phantasia for crying out loud! How do you mess that up?
Colloyd Week 2023 Day 1: Wings
A repaint of the wings prompts from Colloyd week 2019
More specifically I painted the pair back to back like I did for the initial sketch
As for an additional bonus I did the prompt twice the second one was more of a for fun piece that I enjoyed throughout painting

Summary:
Two traveling (not) space pirates find themselves in trouble as a (totally justified) theft goes wrong.
Written for Colloyd Week. Day 2: Traveling.
Okay, they might be space pirates.
With this year's Colloyd event being wedding-themed, there's no way I'm not reviving the absurdist wedding/reception idea I'd planned for last year.
My fic from last year was, as its readers noted, something of a love letter to Takes of Symphonia and this'll be much in the same vein -- obscure references and all. It's freakin' funny; trust me.
(Yeah, I know I already did a crazy wedding with Felannie/FE Three Houses last year -- sue me!)
TOS Colloyd Wedding Day Fic is...
Now five chapters, complete with an epilogue. 57 Word doc pages. 17,900k+ words. Filled to the brim with more references, self-aware humor, Colloyd/Tales of Symphonia fandom jabs, and insanity than you can shake a stick at.
And I still ain't finished. The things I do for this RPG.
Thankfully, the light's at the end of the tunnel -- things should be wrapped up by tomorrow -- but once again, I have fallen prey to my multi-fic temptations. See, every time I embark on one of these things, I always underestimate the workload and how the channels of inspiration just keep pouring new ideas into it all, and the story keeps ballooning, and ballooning, and ballooning...
As you'd expect from someone whose writing speed is slow as molasses, this makes for quite the laborious writing process, and it's plagued me for a very long time. While thankfully I'm still having fun writing it -- I've cracked up more times than I can count writing this -- it doesn't make for an especially healthy lifestyle. Honestly, it's long since past time for a different approach to writing, but that'll be a whole undertaking in itself -- one I'd like to discuss at a later date.
There's a whole mess of emotions as to why this is the case -- my previous Tales of Symphonia work (just down the dirt road) almost fell victim to the same trap -- but in this case, a variety of factors made this venture particularly difficult. For now, let's just say that unlike said piece, I didn't have the heart to cut any of the big ideas in this one -- look forward to my end notes this Saturday.
As always, my top priority (and concern!) is to satisfy my fellow readers/writers. With how big it's gotten, I imagine it may be rather daunting with all the other Colloyd wedding works arriving on the same date (even if the fandom's dwindled these days *cough* *cough*), but in the meantime, I hope you'll laugh along with me. See you Saturday! Let's indulge in all the fluff our favorite couple deserves.
FINALLY finished my fic for Colloyd Day, was uploading it and found an unexpected formatting error I had to manually edit line by line, accidentally posted it too early with a missing chapter, couldn't revert it back to draft and had to delete it. Now I gotta do it all over again. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
(No, seriously, you can't revert multichaps to a draft? Granted, I was panicking and this was a *very* particular problem, but that's kinda weird. Maybe it's a bandwidth/space thing? I guess that'd make sense -- wouldn't want an in-progress/complete fic accidently deleted to the ether once time's up.
Still, I dunno if anything will ever match "fic exchanges' general lack of transparency regarding pro-reveal anonymity" as the weirdest function/convention I've seen on AO3, but this comes pretty close. At least I can actually guess the reasons behind it.)
