Natives are not just mean faced unapproachable stereotypes. We are a diverse and expansive people. Just because I don't check the boxes in your made up caricature image does not mean I'm not native. It doesn't mean I'm lying. It doesn't mean I'm "actually probably mixed". I do not need reminding or educating by you on what I "really am".
You don't get to decide that for me. Natives like fashion. We like hairstyles beyond just what you think is native. Some of us have short thin hair. Some have round faces. Some of us don't. Some have no eyebrows. Some are light skinned. Some are much darker. Some are fat some are thin some in between. We are not a people to be boxed into by the racist cartoons you grew up watching.
I am not too cute to be native. I am not too pretty to be native. I'm not too friendly or nice. I'm not too smart or too well spoken. Too loud or too educated. Too worldly or opinionated. I am not white passing just because you think I'm attractive. Fuck you.
Native people will continue to thrive and change and be anything they want to be and your narrow views don't make me any less Plains Cree just because you think I'm too much of a regular person. Leaving the reserve you refuse to see me exist outside doesn't make me less native.
