i was listening to some channel's MoS commentary today & they were like 'faora + the army dude had a weird unspoken thing right??' and I DIDN'T QUITE PINPOINT IT TIL JUST NOW BUT THEY'RE RIGHT??? idk looking at it now it almost looked like a sparring & lowkey flirtation?? he's shooting at her in one scene & the bullets ricochet off her and she takes off her mask & like headtilts and SMILES at him

Wow, they really said that? I’ve thought about that before, but I didn’t think it was intentional. It was obvious that there was meant to be something there, definitely unspoken. I’ve wondered if it was attraction before but then I was like “nahhh no way would that be on purpose.” But if you say that it was mentioned in the commentary, maybe it was intentional.

It wouldn’t really shock me if it was meant to be an underlying sexual interest, at least on Faora’s side. I mean, she blatantly checks out Clark when she first meets him. The woman is not celibate. She first meets Colonel Hardy when she tells him that Zod wants Lois to come with them on their ship. Hardy gets in between them and tells her no. She glares at him for a moment before Lois speaks up. Not hard to believe that Faora was impressed by Hardy’s refusal of her command.

I think that’s why when she sees him again later, she doesn’t just immediately kill him like she could. She lets him shoot at her, then disables part of her helmet and gives him this look when he runs out of bullets:

Then she actually allows him to pull out his knife, and she pulls out her own, as if he could stand a chance against her. Why does she do this? He’s clearly piqued some kind of interest in her, and she must want to see what he’s made of.

Allowing him to do this led to her defeat when Clark showed up. She lost this fight because Hardy was enough to distract her.

Then they meet again when Faora attacks his ship. This is actually one of my favorite moments in the movie:

I LOVE that moment of recognition. She’s ready for round 2, and he knows it. Then she chases him down and they both end up dying when he crashes the plane into the world engine.

I love really subtle character moments in movies like this, especially when they’re not between lead characters. These two are supporting characters, yet they had their own little arc going on. I love that it’s open to interpretation. Was this two enemies fighting for their own cause? Was it underlying sexual tension? You can see it in a number of ways.

Part of this is my own massive crush on Christopher Meloni. He’s just so handsome. But I’m glad to know it was mentioned in the commentary, because I’ve always noticed there was something there between them.
