Created by Dick Wolf, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit follows the detectives of New York City's Special Victims Unit as they investigate crimes involving sexual assault, abuse, and violence. Since its premiere in 1999, the series has become one of the longest-running scripted television dramas in history. At its center stands Detective, later Captain, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), whose empathy for survivors and relentless pursuit of justice helped define the series across more than twenty-five seasons. Alongside partners including Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and John Munch (Richard Belzer), Benson became one of the most recognizable and influential female characters ever to appear on television.
