someone who understands cat genetics a little better than me explain what the deal is with my sisters cat...so he's a flame point, just a random bred cat, idk exactly what his siblings looked like but I was told he was the only color point in his litter. so he is unlikely to be anything but a moggy.

and i was under the impression normal color point cats always always have blue eyes, no extra pigment. he wasn't full grown when we got him and he had light blue eyes, but as he got older they started turning yellow around the pupil? i dont have any younger photos of his eyes when they were all blue, but the difference was noticeable. this is him at less than a year old

and now he's 2 years old and the yellow-ish ring has become his full eye color....i dont even know what to describe this color. i guess they still read as light blue? but having seen them when they were actually Blue, the yellow tint makes them look almost like. silvery gray?

so is it actually possible for color point cats to have a little color pigment in their eyes?? is this a normal variant of light blue that i just haven't seen in other points or is he weird

also how would y'all describe this color in prose or in a wc allegiance list, bc i coincidentally have an oc with eyes i wanted to make this color but "warm blue" does not make sense and idk if they are quite yellow enough to say "pale yellow" but. somehow they also dont look green to me at all.

It was Morgan’s bday yesterday, he turns 6. And since he’s been with us for a yr now after adopting and begging to go outside we decided to get him a harness and prep him for outdoor walking time. Today has been him just walking around the house with the harness on to get him used to the sensation of it(he’s taking to it well).

Colour point in cats is dependent on skin temperature.

The mutation that cause colour point affect the protein that insert the pigments in the fur. If the skin is warm, the protein desaturate and is destroyed, leading to white fur because it cannot insert pigment. In parts of the body where the skin is cooler, the protein works and the fur will get the pigment.

I live in a house build in 1880, in a country where average temperature is 10°C most of the year. And I got my appartment insulated 6 years ago.
