It was Morgan’s bday yesterday, he turns 6. And since he’s been with us for a yr now after adopting and begging to go outside we decided to get him a harness and prep him for outdoor walking time. Today has been him just walking around the house with the harness on to get him used to the sensation of it(he’s taking to it well).

I cannot express how much joy it brings me to have raised such confident and well behaved cats.

When I first adopted my boys I had no idea what I was doing. I grew up with dogs, always had dogs, and only had experience training dogs.

Cats are definitely not dogs.

But I’ve always loved learning about animal behavior and training, so first thing I did was watch and read a ridiculous amount of information on cat behavior and training. Then I started training Gremlin, Gizmo following awhile later.

I’m sure it will surprise no-one to learn I made some mistakes along the way, but I grew from them. So did my boys. They still push boundaries, and they always will, because they’re cats. But the important thing is that they listen when I correct them and establish or re-establish a boundary. That’s what allows them to still be curious and explorative cats.

Now, I know their body language extremely well, and they know my different tones of voice very well. So everyone feels safe and confident during our backyard adventures.

It just makes me feel so good that they can safely run around outside and be totally themselves without fear or restraints. And the joy that fills my heart when they frequently come check in with me, tails high with confidence, is really indescribable.

When they climb a tree without fear and have the trust in themselves to get back down, I just feel so proud of them.

I just love my boys so much and thank the gods for them every single day.

It's such a little thing, but so exciting - did a quick harness session with Emma tonight & at one point put the harness down in my lap while I was squeezing more churu to the top. And she!! Nudged the harness!! With her nose!!

Gibson and the Apocalypse: Slay Ride

I should probably start by explaining that Gibson is not harness trained. And I should continue by explaining that when the world is ending and your boss is relying on you and your draft cross to transport large quantities of important Armageddon supplies to a new location, sometimes you just have to wing it, hitch up anyway, and hope for the best.

All in all, things are going pretty much exactly how I expected. Feel free to sing along.

I actually had half of this parody floating around my head for a year or so, but when I started drawing these comics I gave it an apocalyptic twist lol.
