Piebald Golden Jackal (Canis aureus) killed in Serbia.

It's possible this animal may be a hybrid with a domestic dog. Hybrids between the two species are well-documented, however a similar-looking piebald jackal culled in Israel was DNA tested and found to contain no trace of domestic dog ancestry, suggesting this colour pattern may also occur naturally in the species.

Snake Rescue Sunny Coast in Queensland caught this exceedingly rare colour morph of red-bellied black snake! It's totally red, while this species is normally black with red belly scales!

This specimen is possibly an example of erythrism, a mutation that causes an excess of red pigment (similar to how albinism is a lack of pigment, or how melanism causes excess dark pigments)

@elodieunderglass I know it's supposed to be the leucism channel, but I think this one might *actually* be albino for real??? It has pink eyes, even though you can't really tell from these not great phone pics. I see this squirrel all over the neighborhood digging up people's flowerbeds.

Have you ever seen anemones fight each other? This is an extreme form of competition for space between these 2 distinct anemone morphs, the Warratah anemone Actinia tenebrosa, and the olive anemone Isactinia olivacea. These anemones are generally found at distinct shore heights, the A.tenebrosa in the upper tidal zone, and I.olivacea in the low intertidal. The large blue lumps are powerful acrohagi, which are loaded with nematocysts, that form wounds on the opponent anemone. These powerful defense mechanisms were likely evolved over time due to an increasing pressure for space on the rocky shore.
