Colten was still sleeping when Charleen joined him for bed. She relaxed a little as he seemed to be sleeping peacefully. This mean that she was sleeping deeply when he work up with a start...
Atticus was at his weekly appointment with Antonia and Cayla was running errands. This left Colten’s care to Sage and Charleen. Colten seemed to shut down, only quietly insisting that his head hurt.
Sage retrieved some painkillers for him at Charleen’s request while she stayed with her husband. Once he’d taken the medication he requested to go to bed. Charleen obliged and escorted him to bed. Sage couldn’t help but feel a little useless and a lot worried for her grandpa.
After dinner the girls kept to themselves in their room. Atticus was not offended. He was glad to see his girls bonding and hoped that this experience would only bring them closer, as opposed to the alternative.
Atticus retreated to the porch with his parents. He was not eager to sleep in bed without his husband, no matter how tired he was. Colten was the first to speak. “You know that you can count on us, son,” he said. “No matter what you choose to do or where you go, we will support you.”
“We’ll even go with you, if you’ll have us,” Charleen added. “We’re well aware of Caleb’s request, but should you decide to move with the girls to Forgotten Hollow...”
“When are they gonna be here?” Sage whined. She looked up as her grandpa walked past. Colten gave her a hearty smile.
“Soon, I’m sure,” he told her. “Just be patient.”
“They are coming home today, right?” Sage asked. She was bouncing in her seat impatiently, hands wringing the fabric of her dress. “They didn’t get stopped?”
“They’re coming today, I promise,” Colten assured her. He sat beside her at the bar. “Your dad and sister are coming home today, but remember: Your Aunt and uncle-”
“-Are going to where Papa is,” Sage finished sadly. “I’ll miss them, but that’s okay. I don’t want Papa to be alone.” She looked down, away from Colten. He reached over and rubbed her back to comfort her. A lot of changes were happening in their family’s life. All he wanted to do was support them and comfort them.
Sage crawled up onto the sofa next to her dad and watched the TV with confusion. They didn’t have TV at home, after all. “Sweetpea?” Sage looked away from the confusing thing on the wall to her dad as he spoke. “Sage, don’t you want to meet your grandparents?”
“What is that?” Sage asked.
“Your grandparents are my parents,” Atticus said. “They are my mom and dad. See?” Atticus pointed over to Charleen and Colten. “That is my mom. She is your grandma.” Charleen waved, but Sage buried her head into Atticus’s arm. “Ah-hah... and that is my dad, your grandpa!” Colten waved, and then pointed to his plate.
“You know, we could always bribe her with some pie!” he suggested.
“Darling, bribing our granddaughter with sweets is not a habit that I want to encourage,” Charleen said as she looked over her shoulder.
“I thought that was the right of grandparents!” Colten laughed. Charleen just shook her head. She had to let him have this, unfortunately. At his age... she gave him whatever she could.
Father and son spent plenty of time catching up.
Antonia and Sage only woke up briefly to eat. Once introductions had been officially made everyone sat down to lunch. Experienced parents passed down their knowledge to new parents. Charleen even shared what stories she could from her mother of being an alien child in a sim family. It was a pleasant and relaxing lunch that Atticus wouldn’t be getting getting again anytime soon.
Um… Excuse me, may I see your invitation, please, Mr. Reaper? I’d like to remind you that this is a celebration. Business is NOT allowed here. Thank you.
