One Punch Man
For your WIP ask game: Memories from 2 Years 8 weeks 4 days and/or Post-ME3?
This is my first combat scene I've ever written. It takes place during Eden Prime in ME1.
We push forward coming up over a hill and we see a large ship, unlike anything I've ever seen. It roars and starts ascending off the ground. Before we know it more of the Husk creatures and Geth forces rush on us. Shepard runs toward a couple husks shooting her pistol until it over heats. She drops it on the ground and biotically Throws one husk away and starts punching at the other one. I rush toward her trying to get a lock on the Husk she's fighting but I couldn't shoot it or Throw it without fear of hitting her. I get to her side and push the husk off of her and Throw it over the hill. I look back at Shepard, she has a bloody nose and her barrier is down. Geth troopers run up from the right shooting in our direction. I round myself in front of her bringing a barrier up around us both. She grabs her pistol from the ground and stands at my side, shooting at the Geth troops rushing at us. Her barrier springs back to life, but I don't let mine down just yet. She throws a Lift at the closest trooper in front of us. A barrage of bullets pang over my barrier. I struggle to keep it up, I grit my teeth together trying to repress a painful groan, but Shepard takes notice and comes up next to me.
“I'm going to re-enforce your barrier with mine okay?”
I nod at her.
She puts her left hand over mine against the barrier dome, her energy blends into mine and makes the barrier stronger. I've never had to combine biotic energies with someone before, I had no idea it was even possible; but as her hand lays over mine, our energies start connecting I feel a slight weight lift off me as the hits from the bullets ricochet off the strengthened barrier. She lifts the pistol with her right hand and aims out at the incoming Geth. She fires until her gun over heats, she takes one down and manages to throw a Warp at another. She falls to her hands and knees on the ground, I lower myself down to keep my hand on hers, keeping our barrier strong. My right hand is what's keeping our energies linked together while my left is keeping the barrier up.
“Can you reach my gun?” I yell to her over the sound of gun fire.
She reaches across me grabbing the pistol on my hip, she looks up at the Geth towering over us, aims the pistol right at it's chest and within three shots it was down.
The last trooper falls as Ashley runs up next to us. “I think that was the last one.” She says gasping for breath.
I let the barrier flicker out and try to catch my breath, Shepard and I remain still crouched on the ground. She looks over at me breathing heavily. “You okay, Lieutenant?” She asks me between breaths.
“Yeah, are you alright Commander?” My eyes are swimming in hers.
“I'm alright, thank you.”
I look down and notice my hand still lays on top of hers on the ground. I retract my hand before she notices and bring myself to a stand, I offer my hand to help her up. She takes it and slowly comes to a stand, she takes her hand and wipes the blood off her face.
WIP Wednesday
So, I haven't posted a snippet in a while. Have a little bit of Jason and Alex during a battle. It's something I've been working on for a while now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jason made it halfway to the washroom when the ground beneath him shook, followed by an explosion, had him flying off his feet, hitting the wall. He stood up on all fours. Disoriented from the ringing in his ear, he covered one with a hand, then shook his head to war off the dizziness.
“Alex?! Davidson?!” He called out for them, immediately concerned for their well being.
Alex was thrown off her stool. Out of pure instinct, she made the familiar mnemonic movement of her hand, activating her barrier to protect her from most of the impact as she hit the wall. She brought her hands up before she hit the ground, breaking her fall before she landed face first. Grunting, she got on her fours, coughing as dust started to fill the room from the debris that surrounded the. The roof had caved in on half the bar, nearly missing her. Seeing the near missed sobered her up, the realization of the severity of the situation registered in her brain.
“Alex!”
She heard her name being called, but the ringing in her ear muffled the voice. Slightly dazed, she looked around and saw Jason checking on the colonist as he searched for her, telling those who didn’t need any help to make their way to the safe house. Her fits of coughing prevented her from responding. Her lungs burned from inhaling the dust. She saw him stop to check on Davidson, who was still relatively close to the bar waved him off and pointed in her direction. Davidson rolled onto his feet, and unholstered his pistol, then took cover behind a table.
Jason ran up to Alex. He kneeled down beside her, sighed in relief that she seemed okay, he placed a hand on her back. “Are you okay?”
Alex nodded while still coughing. She felt him wrap a firm hand around her bicep, helping her up to her feet.
“Check behind the counter for a shotgun. They usually hide one behind there.” Jason said, then took cover behind a booth, eyes on the door.
Alex jumped over the counter, searched around for a shotgun. She spotted a Katana with a few thermal clips, and a handful of grenades. A smile of approval spread on her face. She pocketed the thermal clips and the grenades, then picked up the Katana, then did a weapons check. She hoped over the counter, then made her way to join Jason behind the booth. She shoved her hand in her pocket, pulling out two grenades. She held them out to show him.
“Here,”
Jason grabbed them from her hand, hooking them on his belt.
“Look at me,” he studied her for a moment, holding her chin in a hand.
“You’ve got a cut on your left brow, nothing serious. Might leave a scar though”
“Yeah, I don’t care about that. We need to get these colonists to the safe bunk,” Alex peered over his shoulder, to look at the frightened colonist.
“The weapon slays where the hand wills!”
When Jake brought his attention back to the rooftop, he found that another had joined him. Someone Jake didn’t recognize. He blinked. It felt like cycles upon cycles had passed since he had seen someone new.
The newcomer hovered above the ground, his feet hanging downward, relaxed. For a moment, Jake thought he was unclothed, but no — the man was covered in armor…
