MOM - A Comeback Story

A small comeback story to ease me into writing.... Stiles is more than a good agent. He knows he is right when he believes in something, even if he’s the only one. Even if everyone else has already given up. He knows his mom was murdered. If it is the only thing he will ever do in his life, he will find out who and why and bring justice. He only needs one file. The one file that everything seems to connect to. Stiles knows the only one who can find it back. His most loyal friend and best sniffler in the world: the black dog Roscoe. He’d always thought he was the one that made it turn and speak. A secret magic no one would trust in. But what if less in his life is true than he’d always believed? Trying to proof his mother’s murder and find her killer what is he really going to proof?

It Begins

„Good boy“ Stiles said softly and got down onto his knee. One hand gently moving through the dog’s fur he picked the file slowly from the blank floor. It was covered in dust, the corners slightly bend. And when he opened it, worn pages told a story of long, frustrating nights, coffee and exhaustive work without results. Letters spread over the pages, hastily and barely readable. But he could read them.

Triumph filled his chest. He got it. He finally got it.

The pages were closed, the file carefully placed into the safest shed of his bag before Stiles locked it and turned back to his dog. Roscoe was still friendly wagging his tail, proud of the work he’d done and, yes, the service he’d done Stiles was more than the dog would ever understand.

“Good boy” he said again, tousling Roscoe’s hair while Stiles’ eyes turned back to the darkness and scanned the room. The shabby walls which could barely hold the roof, the dust and spider webs, the old boxes spread all over the floor. He couldn’t say what but something felt off ever since he’d entered this place. Something about the walls, as shabby as they seemed, felt too alive to him.

“Come on, Roscoe” he said in a low voice, getting up. “We have what we came for. Time to leave.”

Stiles turned, the bag’s weight on his hip and his dog close by his side. The darkness stayed silent, the walls didn’t move. But with every shrieking step they made they walked further into a web they would never escape from.
